Default Turn off The New "?" "!" Feature?

First of all, really excited for this update. Besides a couple little lag hiccups things seem to be running really well. Appreciate all the work the devs put into it.

That being said I really dont like the new overhead notifications. I just experienced this for the first time and it was... unpleasant. Not looking to be toxic, but I have quite a few criticisms.

I feel it was sloppily done and completely immersion breaking. It's too large and obtrusive, it stays up for too long, the color is too bright/intense, it's too "cartoony" looking, and the fact they swivel slightly left and right is very annoying and distracting. Also it happen EVERY TIME you walk by the secret door or trap.

I feel like all they needed was a simple notification that looks a bit like the sword overhead annimation from the Divine Favor spell in terms of size/color/intensity, but a "!" or "?".

It's a bit too much for me. Looking for a way to turn it off if possible.

    Thanks

As a long time trapper (many years ago my first toon/first life was a rogue) I am used to looking for the smaller icons, but I liked the idea of the larger icons, but the implementation leaves a bit to be desired.

I was wondering where in the heck those came from.

Frankly never had a problem with the previous notifications and while I don't mind something 'bigger'. Yeah, these look totally cartoony and just scream 'slapped on after everything else was done' since the new graphics don't match the old at all.

Cartoony and corny. Shrink the animation and dull down the color. Or let us turn it off. For newer players, sure, it is helpful can't argue there. But many of us long time players already know where nearly every trap/door in the game is and so it's just an unnecessary annoyance; let's get a UI option to turn it off at minimum.

as a part time trapper, I liked it, but I get how it would break the immersion.

i'd vote for option to use classic or new.

the new one is visible for other players, so it's most definitely noob friendly.

it's great for newbies and for HC. Not having to yell out trap to others is a nice thing. But an option to hide would be good too.

Immediately found the new mechanic annoying, especially the audio component. Party quickly reached a consensus we were sick of it halfway through Undermine.

I don't find the symbols too bad, but the noise is rather irritating. Is there a way to turn off the sound?

I like it, but I do agree they're a little cartoony and it clashes a bit with the rest of the game. I also agree it should be an option for those that don't want it.

The ? and ! are completely ridiculous. Worst idea ever. Please get rid of them asap.

Unfortunately I missed being able to login into the latest Lamannia U59 previews. Therefore, I haven't personally experienced this unwanted feature. However, I did enquire about an option to be able to toggle the said feature. My enquiry was completely ignored by Team DDO.

Would it be possible to allow your Character to be able to toggle that effect "ON" or "OFF", if they so wished. ...
Due to me having DDO installed on an ancient 32-bit OS system, I haven't seen it on live either. Nonetheless it was obvious from the description; it was going to be a completely counterproductive feature (if it couldn't be toggled). I'll probably have to watch an online video or possibly wait until SSG release the "hotfix" and I can login.

I suspect the people responsible for designing the feature don't play Rogues that often, and possibly even loath them. As for having an accompanying irritating sound effect, it just comes across like a poorly conceived and short-sighted design idea.

I nearly exclusively play pure Rogues so I can see such a torturing feature "driving me up the wall" in no time at all... and it doesn't really benefit others in group either. I presume it works with Spot skill value, which I won't always need to alert me of: Traps or Secret Doors. Also my Spot won't be high enough in some rare cases whereas my Search would be. For example, I may be rapidly hot-swapping [Spot/Search/Disable device] gear, etc. I suggest it either gets removed or a specific ON/OFF toggle become available.

I always play in first person view and zoom out as necessary (until the scroll wheel stops working) so I wouldn't see it?
Maybe if it was on my hireling... and I could se it?
I think auto-detecting traps should sent an electric zap through my mouse and auto-detecting secret doors should send a gust of wins in my face for total immersion...

Not everything in the game needs to be dumbed down; paying attention and watching the trapper adds to immersion but the cartoonish graphic and annoying sound kills it. Please remove or allow it to be switched off.

I trap solo, have been playing for 5.5 months. I don't know where all the traps are, and even in quests I have run several times in that time I STILL don't know where they are. If I am trapping with another trapper, they might be boxing before I get there, so I won't know where the trap triggers from.

In short, I absolutely love the !?. They are my favorite (non-lagging, non-dh) thing since I have started.

I understand some people may feel it breaks immersion, and I am all for a button that lets others turn it off.

But for me, the response "why doesnt the team shout trap" doesn't hold water; many teams are geared/past-lifed/whatever enough that they just blitz through traps because they are either immune-ish or simply unhindered by them and don't bother to educate the noobs, who will likely forget by the next time they run that quest.

edit: I didn't realize there was a sound. I don't play with sound, but I think that outright needs to be a default-off option.

I found the overhead exclamation and question mark a welcome addition.

Feedback from my part on this new feature:
    - The white pointer line to where the trapbox is when you have auto find trapboxes is not showing anymore.
    - The exclamation mark goes off for geysers, which do not have trapboxes.
    - The question mark keeps popping up on found and opened secret doors.
(As is the case with the overhead true seeing symbol.)

This is on a wood elf dark hunter.

Exclamation mark is supposed to notify your teammates of danger, disarmable or not.
Opened secret doors behaved this way before, you got buzzing sounds when passing by. It just got more annoying with question marks.

As an old guy, I appreciate the large, cartoonish icons. Thanks SSG!

glad I wasn't drinking when I read this. I could see why this feature would be annoying in this quest as one stands at about the 1/2 mark over a room full of landmines

the good - they've achieved their purpose of alerting, and their location is good IMO, far better than a symbol in the corner.

the bad - everything else about them, and I do mean everything.

They are obtrusive, annoying, tacky and tasteless. As my party member noted - "I hate this ugly cartoon thing".

The main sticking point is that these alerts are not inline with the game's design.

I have noticed a similar trend in other recent designs, not sure what's changed in the design team but please steer them back to the current game design and away from their cartoonish tendencies.
