I'm both of these things. I think its great. Its really, really hard to get new players on board when they have such a pay mountain to climb particularly with expansions in the mix. I've got FIVE new people into or back into this game over the last few months, this will mean they stay. They will get the expansions that are on offer and *will* buy the ones that aren't as soon as they can afford it, because its not such a huge ask now.

The game will be better, and have a longer life for that. I paid all that money, I don't want to see the game die, this is still an investment for me and it hurts me not at all. That money is already spent and could have evaporated any time anyway in terms of 'value' if the game closed, and I've enjoyed all that content when its come out and every time I've run it since. So... new players get to run it with me now without me having to spend money on passes for them or them having to find money they might not have to play what is now old content. And all indications are that content is going to continue to spill out of SSG, particularly if they have a bigger player base with faith that they'll be treated well.

And nothing SSG have done over the last 3 months has suggested anything other than love for the players.

So as a premium player who owns everything and who recently went VIP when the game was ostensibly free to all over the last few months purely because I want the game to live during these awful, awful times and into the future (also those 10 extra bank slots were nice), I *applaud* them.

I can't speak for other premium players or VIPs, but that's how *I* feel.

I really don't know enough about this to comment on what was promised.

But all those wider benefits still apply, and I would guess (and it is a guess) that most season holders not only were well off enough to be able to afford for their pass to suddenly become worthless if the game died, but also clearly are invested enough in the game and community and have enjoyed the benefits of their season pass for long enough that they would see the sense in welcoming a sudden influx of new players sticking now on a level playing field in terms of access. That's more groups, more raids, more guildies more everything without barriers to everyone.

And it only applies to end august. Which tells you it's aimed at rewarding loyal existing players who don't have the full catalogue but have stuck with SSG, generating loyalty within the recent influx by not suddenly pulling the rug out from under them and leaving them with a grind and cash mountain to climb (which really would be cynical), and means those new players are way more likley to buy new content when it comes out, sustaining the game. VIPs who are struggling to maintain ongoing payments in the wake of the current economic situation even get to breathe a sigh of relief - maybe they get to stop their sub for a bit, having supported the game for years and years... but not actually have to just stop playing cos they also can't afford to buy that content.

So y'know. I just don't see how this can be a bad thing, except from a 'why did they get something I had to pay for' perspective which right now? In these times? I understand that mentality less than I ever did. There are times that is a legit concern, but that kind of attitude applied as an ideological red line in a situation like this with a game this small... surefire way to destroy what you love.

Looks like the first two expansions MotU + Shadowfell are available now until 31st august for 99 DDO Points each

Note though: it seems only to unlock the adventures from the expansions, not their features (like epic destinies) themselves.
So if you are flush with adventures/quests already you might not benefit much from them, unless I misunderstand something.

Epic destinies still cost 995 DDO Points to unlock.

Huge thank you to the ddo team. I haven't played for a decade but this brought me back and I was happy to purchase some ddo points immediately along with the coupon code. Much appreciated!

The Coupon Code is: DDOfreequests (1/Account, available to redeem through August 31st, 2020).

Simply use it as you would any other coupon code. Also MotU and Shadowfell expansions are on sale for 99 points each.

Like said ^: You copy the code from the article or the quote or here: DDOfreequests

Then in Game, open the DDO store. In the top menu area, is a link, Redeem Code. Click that, paste the link (or type it) into the box, click redeem, and confirmation of a purchase for 0 points/dollars will be done for the list of quests that are being given away.

I would bump up the VIP perk since they just lost the biggest advantage over premium and f2p. Instead of +1% xp for each member in party, make it +3% with maximum +15%. So they would get 10%-25% xp depending on party size. That would definitely make me go VIP.

Yet, besides the fact that vip involves much more than free quests as extendly said before (some of those perks, like hardcore server, being unavailable by other means), this is more than a generous gift and to some extent a political stance, it's also a promotional move. Any company can give their longtime subscribers some costless freebies, they only give a significant reduction on your subscription (or other significant gifts) once.
Now considering that mmo survival depends on an abundant player bases, I guess that if it seems like a pretty bold move, it's very smart, and long time vip player should see it as a commitment to them too, to keep this game running and evolving.
This is the best reply yet. (Don't tell me how much I'm getting for VIP when we are the ones supporting the game.) I'll admit I was pretty unimpressed at first being a season pass purchaser and VIP. Your last line on keeping the game running and evolving sold me though. Well done.

It doesn't affect me too much other than the VIP xp thing, which is nice, but it affects me in the way that it helps the population in general.

    Well said.

    Default LOTRO Value

I've already stated as a Premium player with all the packs I should have more to moan about than any VIP about this, but am more than happy with this move from SSG.

What I did do recently, however, was to create a LOTRO account, used the free coupon there, and also spent £10 to but their on-sale expansions.

Best of both world's. Literally. And SSG got £10 off me too!

Default I can't believe I missed this by 5 days!

Just came back to the game after an extended absence and had no idea this offer was even available. I can't believe I missed all of the free content by 5 days. Any possibility this will ever happen again?

Same here. Any chance to have there be a 90% discount or something for remaining packs?
