Exclamation New Player Raid Training – Hound of Xoriat

Are you a new player wanting to try a bit of raiding? That’s awesome!

Unfortunately you face a few obstacles.

When LFM’s for raids do appear, leaders tend to presume that you’ve

ran the raid hundreds of times and they lose sight of what it’s like to be new
to the raid. They then yell at you for not “just knowing what I want you to do”
or otherwise being a mind reader.

My goal is to help alleviate this issue and run some training for raids which

have become problematic for the PUG scene. Having fun is a big plus as well.

If you are interested please respond to this thread with your character you

want to bring and short description of your build. (class split, race, PRE)

All directions will be given via spoken English. If this is an issue to disability,

language barrier, etc please let me know ahead of time and we can
    probably make appropriate arrangements.

If the list fills up please sign up anyhow in case other people cancel.

    Thursday, December 8, 2011 - 19:00 MST (That means 7:00 P.M. Mountain Time, 8 Central, 9 Eastern, etc)

1 – Tobril (exact character may change depending on who signs up and shows up)

2 – Shuhei (halfling rogue assassin)
    3 – Rosten (drow cleric)
    4 - Silinterest (18/2 ranger/fighter
    )
    5 - Tegor (18/1/1 ranger(tempest)/rogue/fighter)
    6 - Farayon (20 FvS evoker)
    7 - Micaril (drow artificer)
    8 - Zebidiahh (17/1 elf cleric/fighter)
    9 - ZZyzzxx (20 KoTC WF)
10 - Galcian (20 half-orc barbarian, even though this raid doesn't drop the knost's belt)
11 - Mrdexter (monk or wiz)
    12 -

    Alternates/Standby/Helpers:

Samius (if I get him drunk enough)
Grieve (hopefully he is a tasty treat)
Darkrok (he will bring whatever, as he foolishly signed up to help, mwa ha ha)
Yuda (he has to yodel or something to remind me it's him if he brings a character that violates his naming scheme)

Thanks everyone for coming. Due to how well these events have gone I think I'll keep doing them!

Look for more opportunities in the future.

Of note, Grieve (Rifte) got the Levvik shield as a reward for being a helper. It seems that Karma is in full effect for these events. GL with that eLOB in a few days!

Mandatory Things to Bring: (I will ask you to link items when joining, you don’t get in without them)

    All characters
    100% Fortification
    ~300+ HP (somewhat negotiable)
Featherfall (permanent preferred, ~3 clicks will suffice, might be able to trick an arcane into prepping if desperate)

    Melee
A big weapon for killing mind-flayers and renders.

    Arcane
    Haste
    Blur
    Greater Heroism

    Divine
    Mass Deathward
    Mass Heal
    Mass Cure
Restoration (regular or better, used to remove multiple negative levels from beholders)
Mass Bull+Bear (this can be switched into right before the quest or use scrolls, we will explain why)
Resurrection or True Resurrection (don’t use raise dead)
Scrolls – Heal, Mass Cure (again, if you are poor I can help pay for these)

    Artificer
Scrolls – Heal (you may be on doggie duty)
Scrolls - Mass Cure (surrogate cleric duty for the group)

Other Class Abilities that are Awesome to Keep Running Constantly

    Bard
    Inspire Courage (any)
    Spellsong Trance (spellsinger only)
    Spellsong Vigor (spellsinger only)
    Ironskin Chant (warchanter only)

Optional Things That are Really Nice:
Silver Flame Trinket (or other things to stop negative levels from beholders)
    DR
Healing Amplification (healer friend for warforged)
AC (60-70ish+ or don’t worry about it)
Clikies – (items that cast spells on you, Greater Heroism, Deathward, etc in case you die and need to be rebuffed)
Potions – Cure/Repair Serious, Silver Flame (help out healers a bit and/or save yourself in an emergency)
Regeneration – Tasty Ham, Pouch of Jerky, etc. “Trickle” healing in this raid is helpful
Be Mildly Sober – A drink or two is OK, just don’t come trashed

Things I Don’t Want You To Use:
Mnemonic Potions – It’s important to learn how to raid without relying on these,
as it’s highly likely they will be placed on a large timer someday.

Reserved in case I think of something incredibly clever. (don't count on that)

Due to how well the Vision of Destruction event went, I’ve decided
    to run another training raid.

I chose Hound of Xoriat because it has no flagging requirements and
tends to have a higher PUG fail rate than many other raids.

We will be using the old-fashioned “circle and collapse” method.

There are many ways to complete the raid, but I feel that for normal
and PUG runs this is the easiest to explain and implement.

A not entirely terrible write-up that was posted today by someone else:

bah. was going to volunteer help with my bard if you couldn't get one otherwise (given that a bard can be a huge help to the success of the raid), but that time doesn't work for me at all. ah well, good luck

I have access to a bard if need be, and could conceivably run it plus a healer in the middle in dire circumstances.

Hopefully we will get a good turnout like last time so split-brain action won't be needed.

I love this idea, unfortunately I missed the last go round but, this time I'd like to add my toon Tegor to the list. He's a 18 Tempest Ranger/1 Rogue/1 Fighter ... and meets all requirements in post #2.

For those that are new to the raid you should check out this guide, explains how to run it. It is best to know what you'll be expected to do (:

Added yet another ranger. I'd better be able to get a frikin' barksin.

It's great to see you're doing this again, last time was loads of fun.

Please sign me up on my 20 evoker FvS Farayon once again.

I would love to participate in this event, and I believe that I can make it at the correct time. However, I have to share this computer with my sister, who sometimes has large amounts of homework that requires being on the computer for long periods of time. While I believe that she will not on this particular date, there is always an element of uncertainty.

Please sign up Micaril, my recently capped drow artificer. I hope that I can make it!

I also carry 100 heal scrolls at all times for emergency healing and I have 100 remove curse pots for my "chucking potion at everyone" spell; I will try to remember to pick up some mass cure scrolls. I also carry every single weapon buff, from elemental to deadly.

Edit: Just talked to my sister, is she is almost 100% certain that she will not have much homework on the day of the run, and that if she does she can get it all done beforehand.

I'd like to try this on my elven 17 cleric/1 fighter Zebidiahh but I'll have to sign up as an optional. Not sure what the wife will come up with. He's only at 346hp and can have up to 10 auras/turns/bursts. Can set all those spells no problem. 22 str, 20con, 30 wis, 16cha, heavy fort. Have restoration mass and 100 resurrection scrolls but would need to buy some heal and other scrolls.

Since I had such a blast in the last run, I'd like to sign up for this on as well if space is still available. Character will be ZZyzzxx again lvl 20 KOTC warforged Pally. I should be able to make the scheduled time.
