    Lightbulb Macros…UI Style

I am curious if anyone else would enjoy macros. I understand scripting macros would introduce to much aggravation for the devs. But what about UI style macros?

    Example…I’ll explain.

Let’s say we can go to Options -> Macros. Edit Macro #1. A dialog box pops up with let’s say 5 empty slots, to drag things to. Now I could drag Extend to the fist slot. Then Haste to the second. And then Extend to the third.

Now drag Macro#1 to my hot bar. Clicking this would turn on extend, cast haste, then turn extend back off.

This could easily be used for a ‘round-robin’ of buffs to someone, and many other good ideas.

Only down side would be controlling metamagic feats. For example if I run with extend on all the time, I would not want my macro to turn it off on the haste, in the above example.I would just want to insure it’s on incase. The only thing I can think of for this issue would be an On/Off flag for a metamagic if used in the macro. This would indicate whether the meatamagic feat needs to be on or off in the sequence, and to insure the metamagic is back the way you want it when the macro is complete.

I would enjoy using a feature like this, would be a great time saver for myself if available. Drag and drop my clickies to a sequence that can fired off with one click or hot key.

I'd just like to see basic macro's being able to bind a quickslot bar to "/say hello" etc would be enough

    like /runaway or /stop on a key.

    Is that doable yet?

That's always been doable, you have to use the /alias command.

I notice they don't show you how to use the shortcut function in that tutorial though, which adds the shortcut to your hotbar.

It's fairly simple, you would create a shortcut for /runaway like so

    /alias ;run /runaway

Then, to add it to a shortcut bar, you use

    /alias shortcut ;run 0

The number 0 at the end can be changed to the slot number you want it to show up in. 0 for the first slot in toolbar 1, 9 for the last slot in toolbar 1, 10 for the first slot in toolbar 2, etc.

Did they add keybindings for aliases? Been playing LOTRO for a while which uses the same system, and don't remember seeing any keybindings there.

Basically the "shortcut" method of /alias adds the text command to one of your hotbars, so you can actually click the hotbar, or press the key associated with that hotbar slot, to make your character emote something.

Unfortunatly macros outside of the /alias command are against the TOC.

I think every MMO has a generic statement about macros in their TOS now.

A brief description of keyboard macros in MMOs:
Keyboard macros have in more recent times come to life as a method of exploiting the economy of massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG)s. By tirelessly performing a boring, repetitive, but low risk action, a player running a macro can earn a large amount of the game's currency. This effect is even larger when a macro-using player operates multiple accounts simultaneously, or operates the accounts for a large amount of time each day. As this money is generated without human intervention, it can dramatically upset the economy of the game by causing runaway inflation. For this reason, use of macros is a violation of the TOS or EULA of most MMORPGs, and administrators of MMORPGs fight a continual war to identify and punish macro users.
In DDO, there is no repetitive tasks that can be accomplished via macro. Other games have crafting items that can be harvested, not here. Other games have respawning mobs that can be killed and looted over and over, not here. Other games actually have a "move to enemy" when attacking option, not here. Other games are much more predictable, easier to create macros such as "walk 10 steps, kill mob, loot body, turn right, walk 10 steps, harvest ore"

    Question Confused

I've built the alias file and confirm they are working and when I use:

    /alias shortcut ;dt 0

the consoles says it's been added as a shortcut but when I press the hotkey I get nothing.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Technically he's asking to be able to do that (which currently takes four keystrokes) in a single keystroke.

Macro programs not made by Turbine are against the TOS. If Turbine were to make them and include them in the game, then that would not be against their terms. And that is what the op is talking about.

Having said that, many players do already use macros. Logitech Gxx keyboards come with plenty extra buttons and a program to make macros for those keys. The ability this gives them to do simple things like toggling all metamagics quickly or type silly things really quickly, is hardly something Turbine cares about.

That particular point in the TOS is designed to keep people from designing programs that play the game for them. That is a far cry from what many players are already doing, and an even farther cry from what the op is asking for.

    Default Hotkey assignments?

I'm just trying to assign the shortcut to a hotkey. The consoles says it's ready but the hotkey doesn't do anything.

Did you try any other number? You should see a shortcut show up in the hotbar with the text on it. Try /alias shortcut ;dt 1 if 0 didn't add anything to your hotbar.. also make sure that you are looking at toolbar 1

    Default Tried multiple keys

Yeah, I tried multiple hotkeys. 0, 1, 14, 15, 16.. They all say assigned but they never are and nothing shows up in the toolbar.

I'll try using a new toolbar and report back.

    Default /alias shortcut bugged

Had a play with the /alias options this morning and TBH without the ability to hotkey them I wont be bothering. The DDO WIKI site (from Googles' cache as the site is down still!) and few other posts on these forums seems to indicate the ability to add an alias to a hotkey is broken, and I suspect wont be fixed any time soon. Shame too as it would be quite a cool feature.

I'm used to setting up things like /assist and basic party chat info about whether spells landed etc and know that while its not so essential now with the voice chat options, I'd still like to have it available! Ah well
