I just ran one of the new quests with a PUG and wanted to give out a big kudos to the dev team for it because I absolutely loved it.

I won't say where it was so people who haven't gotten to it won't know it's there. It was a really simple but deadly one. I had the feeling there was a secret door somewhere, I cast detect secret door (the rogue and rest of party were fighting and I didn't notice!), I'm all proud of myself, I open the door and ... chest :) I let my party know, they all come back and the wizard walks up to the chest and BOOOM spikes come out from every side... needless to say he died instantly!

BUT WAIT! It's not done, we were all standing right at the border of the trap waiting for our rogue to disable it, he couldn't find the box so we told him to open it and see if there's even anything in there. Right when he opens it... BAM more spikes come out right in the "safe zone" where everyone was standing watching him!

The rogue couldn't find the box even with an absurdly high skill and greater heroism but I think our mission got bugged (we found 4 more traps already disabled with the box open before we reached them.... and I'm pretty sure it wasn't part of the design). It was possible to time the trap to only get hit once or twice so we all managed to get the quest without dying but it was still tricky :)

Anyways, that's my little story after playing one quest in mod 4! :D

Wait until you run the crucible. If you can make it through that confounded maze you will again be unpleasantly surprised.

On a side note, that chest you speak of was the first one my guild and i looted in the new mod and i pulled my first paralyzer. :D

So far my favorite trap was in <location deleted> where the floor had landmine type things that continuously blow you into the ceiling. Normally this is no issue, but the ceiling was a bunch of spikes and the long blade traps where whirling up above. In the end with the damage I took going up I should have been stuck to the spike ceiling. :p

Heh heh, that was a nice one, very imaginative. The box location was nice too.

Our rog found it but blow it up lol. the second trap was also a nice add on. How did u do against the King and the henchmen?

Unfortunately we found the other traps already disabled, they did look nasty though, there was one with a hole at the bottom of a ladder, my guess was if you fell in there you'd be hurt a little :).

The end fight wasn't that bad, we had 5 people in the party, I think our bard died fighting but we took out everyone except the king very fast (i put out lots of AOE spells) when the king was almost dead I equipped two swords and jumped towards him to swing (I can't get a hit but it's fun to pretend you can melee as a sorcerer!) ... he cast blade barrier and killed me... right when I died we got quest completed! :p

It looks like the creators are taking a cue form some of the old PnP AD&D. I look forward to the next round of upgrades.

The traps were disabled because of what you told the hobgob at the beginning of the quest. Pay attention to what the NPCs say, lol.

You mean the guy that goes behind the door you can't enter? I didn't speak to him and I remember something was said and I didn't understand what he meant. Thanks for pointing it out though, I usually try to read everything that is said, i'll make sure I talk to him next time :)

Yeah, if you don't mind, I'll give a little spoiler:
**WARNING, SPOILER ALERT**

It's all a big trick, what the hobgob is trying to get you to do. If you agree to help him, he turns off the traps to make it easier on you (he wants those conspirators dead), but reveals his betrayal at the end when you have to fight him at the same time as the king. If you say you don't believe him, you have to fight him right there, all the traps stay on, and you don't get the second chest at the end of the level (the one in the door he comes out of). So, do you want more exp from disabling the traps, or do you want more loot but a harder end fight by agreeing to help? That's what it comes down to, basically.

There is another nasty suprise in a new Quest that is a Secret Door that when opened all that is there is a wall and floor full of blades shooting at you just for opening the secret door. No trap box, no dinging danger sense. Just blades from everywhere. hehe

I love letting the fighter or caster with all the clickies open that one.

I am, Rameses!

One of my favorite is in {xxxxx xxxxx}. The one where the air blow's you to one side of the door and spikes come out of the wall. Very nasty surprise for our Fighter (ME) as he was opening the door.

I have a saved screenshot entitled "Disarmed With A Look", where the trap was disabled but the control box remained closed, but that's hardly the one that stands out in my mind as innovative.

Whirling floor blades are my favorite type. That's because they do incredible damage, can only be safely passed by Rogues wearing Trapblast Goggles, and they look so cool.

The best unique trap I've encountered, and disarmed without help from the party (without them telling me where the box was) involved a corridor with two large stone blocks set a few feet apart. The box was in between them, mounted about halfway up the side of the second block. When any of the party tried to walk along the sides of the blocks, they took heavy damage from force or sonic (can't recall), and the same awaited them on the far end of the second block once they hit the floor. So I thought that it was a cool place to hide the control box, especially since I had to search directly over it to find the thing.

I have to say one of my favorate traps is from the LoTD part two quests. The room with the flaming arrows raining down from above. It was a nice twist for a trap that we have all seen to just be placed in a different area.

hah same thing happened to my party the first time through with the new content, thankfully our cleric didn't go in the "safe spot" lol. what I hear is you need like a 60 search to find the trap on elite.
Another trap I though was cool, is the one where you find a secret door but it doesn't open to anything but spikes coming out of the wall, was funny watching our caster open it lol

Sounds like you found the chest in cabal for one! watched an 11th level rogue diable that last night on normal, so by 14 that rogue will be doing it on elite with no problem. but it is a cool trap and you need an insane search to find it. Also, it's not bugged if you talk to the guy at the first he goes though a secret door and diables the traps for you if you answer somthing wrong he attacks you get the XP bonus for the traps but no second chest!
