View Full Version : Request: Elf Monk w/ Longswords

I'm TR'ing shortly and I am contemplating a Monk variant. I'm currently an elf cleric 18 / monk 2 (good old clonk) and I have an excess of longswords including 2 tier 2 greensteel (Min and Concord) that I would like to reuse in my new life. I know that pure dark monk is the way to go to max DPS so please try to keep requests within the constraints of Elf, Monk and longsword primary weapon.

Because I'll be using longswords, I'll miss out on the best unarmed damage of the higher levels so I'm thinking that a 12 mnk / 8X variants would add the most flavor.

Goals:
- balanced leveling
- useful in raids, lower than optimal but far from gimped
- run enough epics to TR

Tomes available (others can be used in the build tough):
+1 dex
+2 con
+2 str

Please feel free to link to existing builds you feel are along these lines or provide information about this type of build. I've found some threads but either my search-fu isn't good enough to find what I'm looking for or it doesn't exist yet.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is anything that you're interested in or looked at, but I've started working on this one and so far I really like it.

Thanks.

That does have some info that I needed and I didn't find that one because I was straying away from (mostly) cleric builds. My initial inclination was that I may have to go fighter to meet the feat requirements of dual wielding longswords so that build seemed to agree with that line of thinking.

I want my next life to be monk primary so I need more than the 6 monk levels though.

One point that needs to be made just for thoroughness sake, Touch of Death doesn't work with longswords. So, a monk 6 splash would be ideal in my opinion. Could choose fighter, Paladin, rogue, or Ranger for the main class.

If you're stuck on monk as the main class, then 12/7/1 monk/rogue/fighter. You get UMD, open lock, maybe trap skills, tier two monk PRE (either ninja spy 2 for the shadow fade and 3d6 sneak attack or shintao 2 depending on how the update changes it), 1 fighter bonus feat, 4d6+9 sneak attack, and assassin 1 for all that's worth. You'd also get fighter strength 1 and +10 HP from fighter toughness.

Another option you may want to consider is waiting for half-elf and see if you can get the elf long sword abilities and human healing amp at the same time. Then you could go for a nifty solar phoenix type build.

Take a look at the Solar Phoenix (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=248800) and my own Tempest Phoenix (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3081029&postcount=13); both are human for the extra feat & healing amp, but can be adapted to elf instead. You might also be able to do something with the Quad H (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=260560).

Awesome, lots of food for thought.

The Half-elf Solar Phoenix idea is very intriguing and the Tempest Phoenix is similar to what I had in mind. I'll maybe take a crack at modifying that one to 13mnk/6rgr/1rog for critique in this thread.

This seems to be how it plays out as a dark monk. Swapping out to hand wraps to do dark moves as necessary was the theory but I think this will be better as a light monk for support purposes.

Well if anyone finds this thread, I went through a life starting with this as a base and made a few modifications as I went. The result is the "Jack Knife" build found here: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=310186
