Bringing a little Varr to Thelanis

Have a stable of toons on Khyber, but have been wanting to roll a untweeked new toon to get a fresh feel for the game again. So last night rolled up a 28 pt halfling on Thelanis. To add to the challenge Im going 14/2 Wizard/Rogue with a stat line of Str 10 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 18 Wis 8 Cha 10. Taking feats of 1. Insightful Reflex 2. Extend 3. Least dragon mark healing 6. Max and Lesser dragon mark healing 9. Greater dragon mark healing 12. Empower and Enlarge 15. Spell pene 1 (Rogue levels at 1 and 9.) At 2/1 as of this morning and looking forward to playing with many of you on the server.

It was exciting last night when I got to the first Zombie in the good blades dagger quest at level 1 and was unable to hurt it! lol, so used to +1 weapons at that point with pots and all the like. Was fun to have to say, I better group or come back at level 3 for this. Still able to cruise thru Healing and scrolls and did the Low road loop n/h/e to get to level 2 (waterworks on normal and the kobalds new ringleader n/h/e in party to get to level 3.) This build is very challenging so far, got some heals now with the least dragon marks at level 3, and think at level 3/1 will start to be a bit tougher with a decent niacs and magic missle to compliement my charm mosnter and hypnotic pattern. Throwing dagger kiting in the goodblade healing elixer quest, talking about rethinking the zerg! Side note: from my very limited (3 or so hours) expiriance, was supprized how many low level groups (1-6) and how few high level groups (10-16) were posted last night on Thelanis. Oh and almost all the casters I ran into were wizards and not sorcs last night. Two very different changes from what I have experianced on Khyber, differnet........not good or bad.

Good to hear fpoon, look forward to running with ya! Not moving wholesale from Khyber though. Thinking a 50/50 split till this toon is 16 then I will see what kind of croud he falls in with if he is going to keep getting much attention.

1.a After reviewing both servers they both have a pretty even split of 55 sorc/45 wis mix. The couple times I have checked though, on Thelanis there are 3 times the level 1-3's as on Khyber. That also would explain the differnence I have noticed in Lfm levels.

2. I have worked up to level 4/1 Wizard/Rogue and have had no problems with either Waterworks nor Tangleroot trap searching nor disableing (had to roll a 11 or better for the open locks though in Tangleroot as that skill and spot are necessarily suffering.) Ive eaten one trap thus far and have rolled 4 1's. So that is encouraging. Found myself doing a ton of harbor quests to get to level 3/1 though which was unusal...........stk and tangleroot being basiclay saved for 4/1 with the two magic missles and web. In the process, other than a potency item, I have fallen into most of the equiptment I would want for this level, a muckbane, +3 dissable, search, spot and open lock items, and a +3 scimitar (best weapon so far.......masters touch if i cared to use it.)

3. I level alot of diff toons and have a pattern that this is changing pleasantly.........I have noticed on Thelanis that the optionals and extra chests and the like are done far more for a slower paced, perhaps fuller experiance than the power leveling I typicaly am part of on Khyber. That is the biggest game play differance so far, and I am not suggesting one is better than the other (the slower pace does chaff a little but taht is more likely my speed training than anything else.) Will be interested to see if this contunies as I get into Stormcleave and higher.

2a. Ok, leveled now to 6/1 Wizard/Rogue. As I had hoped level 5/1 was the turning point for this build. He really struggled before getting maxumize and lesser dragon mark healing, and has blossomed since. I have done traps thru Elite on tangleroot and deleras and am still setting at one critical failure. Up to 6 least dragon mark and 4 lesser dragon mark heals per shrine doing 28ish and 46ish points of healing respectivly with very fast fire rates. End up using most of the 46 pointers on fighters and teh 28 pointers now on my 70 hp caster (this has freed me up to run more confidently like a warforged self healing caster.) I have 420 mana now with a 22 int and a gem from tangle root so still end up using 70% of my mana buffing party unless heavily shrined like Stormcleave. Fire balls are now doing 50 ish and critting for 90 ish. In normal accumulations with no repeating of quests on the same difficulty I have a decent set of gear. Level 6 robe of invulerabilty, the gemstone (50 sp) and two deathward goggs from tangleroot, a set of +2 mith chain and +1 acid q-staff (only usable elemental weapon so far), +3 repeating throwing dagger (halfing perfect!) and a greater potencey 2 scepter. Wants would be a superior potency 3/4 item, set of decent stat items (only really have the +2 int helm from stk) and more healing pots. Hehehe it is a challenge not buying anything like pots, makes the 3 cure serious pots and 2 cure light pots very special. In my running, and selling non usefull stuff to the market vendors, I have swollen to 4700 plat(and bought nothing, not one pot) thus far which really is reopening my eyes to first time players trying to cleric without a feader patron. Plans now for Deleras on normal and elite, Stormcleave on Elite, Greymoon/co6 normal/hard/elite, Thernals normal/hard, and vons normal to work from 6/1 to 10. This has been thus far a compleate blast!

3a. I have now run a total of one run in a zerg group (a good fast paces no optionals deleras hard run (intimitank I beileve was hosting)) Otherwise thru my tangleroot n/h/e and stormcleave n/h runs the groups have continued to be very exporitory compleating everything possible (also good.) I have had to host most of my groups in that I have been leveling pretty specificly and quickly and have a rediculasly easy tmie coming up with clerics. Alot of healing going on on thelanis.

Welcome, Varr. Ran TR with you a few days back. Quick easy run and you blew through those traps on Hard with no issues.

Thought I was just off with intimitank, sorry about that....got it right now Intimivasion! Varr is now level 8/2.
To the good.......sitting on 8/6/4 30/60/90 point heals with the dragon marks that help keep me up and with there fast fire rate help me help the cleric in tough combat situations heal the big tanks. I have aquired a very nice spell selection (70% or so) of the attainable spells thru random looting and my leveling spells are making sure I am getting the critical ones.....firewall/solid fog/dimention door/blur and the like. Evasion has been very nice with enemy caster fireballing and the like esp when coupled with a +3 reflex boost thru two lines of halfling reflex inhancement. Unlike previous casters I am using masters touch and still swinging a +1 holy scimitar or throwing the +3 returning dagger durring combat. I have done one vons run 1-6 and searched and disabled 12 of the 16 traps (real rouge got the other ones) so feel good about my rogue skills, Ol got a nice burst when I took my second level of rogue (currently Concentraion, Search, Disable, And Umd are maxed.......Ol is moderate, and most everything else like social skills, jump and the like are frozen at their inital 4 skill points plus mod.)
To the bad........at some point I can feel Im going to cave. I have about 40k plat now and still have bought nothign but spell components and inscription matierials. Im sitting at a very soft 83 hp with a 14 con (my base 14....no con item as of yet and only a lesser false life (+5 hp) ring.)) I continue to fight my earge to lead the group physicaly which this toon is just not ready for hp/ac(ac will always suck.but no stoneskin/falselife/displacment spell slots yet, nor the mana to waste on them) wise. Not having diplomacy capped is driving me crazy.....it woudl be a perfect socail skill for this guy. I knew the spell points would suffer with this build thru these levels and am at 525 with a tangleroot gemstone. Being a big believer in buffing, I am normaly hitting the crew with extended blur and hero and one resist typicaly then out comes the scimmy or throwing dagger. There is a little mana left occationaly for some webs or firewalls, but running very skinny here. I used the two shrines 3 times each in von 5! Lol, that was fun to get to blast away, 1000 sp every 15 min.
Im finding this a very complex build for playstyle and would deff not recommend this to a newer player but recommend it highly to anyone that is bored or looking for a challenge. This toon can do almost anything but toe to toe melee and is very exciting to run, but I think you have to really know the game.

Now that Im level 10 it is time to do a couple of things. Every 3 days I will rotate a vons 1-6 run, hard is next up for vons. I have done most of the quests I had on the schedule except the very xp rich therals run that I have had a very hard time getting groups for, so that will be fixed coming up. It is also time to venture into the non preraid Gianthold quests n/h. At level 11 and 12 those quests on e and the preraid quests n/h. Im very excited about level 13 bringing me mass suggesion and greater hero, but that is some work off. Looks like I have 7 days into the first 10 levels, but expect it to be another 7 to get thru 10 11 and 12.

Im not fishing here, just an observation. To date I have been invited to three guilds.....non of which are posted on the Thelanis server listing so I have declined. At some point I would think I will run into a group that is registered and guild up. Im not in any rush to do this, and once I do it will be with a mature guild that has decent but not overwhelming membership and runs tight.....together and raids regularly. Since I have been on server for only 7 days Im probably not ready to even make a decision like this, but Im going to be looking to the social side of the game as soon as Im done power leveling this little halfling in another week or so I would think.

20 dragon, 20 giant, and blah 20 elven relics to start on. See ya in the Hold!

**** I wish I could level as fast as you. Pugs scare me. I have a little level 3 whom I've created about 3 weeks ago. I soloed a couple of quests but it would be far faster to get xp in groups so I tried to PUG. My favorite part of the game is levels 1-6 so have a pretty decent pattern (that I had to adjust with this super squishy build.) Ive been trying to put together a bit of a blue print for leveling here too, which is why I have been going into the detail of quests I have been running hoping to help a bit. I focus on getting 150 coin lord favor by level 4 or 5 in my plan as well, 150 house d favor by level 8, 75 house k favor by level 9, and 150 Gianthold favor by level 13. I have had to post Lfm's and head most groups to stay on track/plan. With this being said, I am very lucky in both my loot tables, my /roll 1d100's, and my pug experiances. I luck into solid groups 95% of the time and have yet to have a bad group on Thelanis. With all that being said, since I had the weekend, I played till my left hand cramped on Sat/Sunday. That helps alot in fast leveling! gl!

Intimivasion will beheading into Threnal to get elite done in the next couple days... and will be hitting trial/maze crucible cabal/feast madstone thereafter.

With regards to buffing... I think you should limit it to blur, if sp are low... people can go buy heroism pots, but you can't buy blur pots. If they don't want to spend the money on basic necessities, why should you alter your play style to accommodate their selfishness. They will never learn to be prepared until people stop holding their hands.

There are some wonderful lists on how they can be better prepared, unfortunately I saw it in someone's siggy and never bookmarked it, but it was good!

I know what ya mean about the buffing, but since my firewall is a bit cool still, I like the party buffing and find that 3 extended solid fogs in just the right spots between each shrine compleatly changes the look and ease of a quest.

For the sadist in me, I am continuing to run this toon clean and untweeked (overly untweeked.) Im only using what I find or get for end rewards. So no items from people in party unless they find it in a chest and I can trade them for something of equal value and in my estimation equal use to them in game (like I might imagine it being realisticly, no getting a superior potency 4 scepter and trading to the fighter a vendor trash item, got to be like a +3 holy long sword to equate a fair use trade.) Returning things mailed to me by the overly generous players Ive bumped into and no auction house or vendor purchases. Being overly strickt on this issue, to add to the challenge of play more than anything. I expect gianthold to really equipt this character with a nice variety of items though. Till level 8, I had my end loot class specific and at 8 changed to random to broaden my weapon armor and stat item opertunities. As of my current guidlines, I would have to find a str tome or somthing semi special like +4 mith full plate in the same quest I saw a fighter pull a +1 int tome to make that type of trade.

14 days into it now...........Varr is about half way thru level 11 now. I've gotten thru thrernals once on normal (end loot is a bit softer than I remember) and spent 3 or so hours collecting my 20 taps and getting my minos helm. Have run pop and madstone on normal (before my plan but there were two groups of 5 that I could not pass up) and a some of the other gianthold quests thru hard. Sitting on 61 favor and looking forward to getting to 75. At 75 I can get a portable hole and utilize the 150 coin lord favor I have had since level 5 (props to the devs for putting this in as a static reward by the way, I have yet to come accross one in normal adventuring with this toon that desparatly needs the extra pack due to components and inscription materials.) Sitting on 10 relics of the 60 I need, have yet to get more than one from a single quest, so hoping not to have to run 50 more gianthold runs to get there.....they better start droping in 2's and 3's occationaly. Titan flagging, Von 5/6 on hard, and (less than) 50 giant hold runs including one crucible run are on the clock. Should get me half way thru level 13. Do to caster love, Im continuing to find little problem with this toon as far as his biggest flaw, level appropriate mana levels, due to being the support/second caster in most every group. At level 8/2 was able to search and disable all the maze of maddness traps on hard........still only eaten one trap so far. I have had to roll a 18 to open the side passage in feast or famine on hard though, so open locks continues to be a stretch untill I can find a +10 or 11 vs the +5 ol item and get greater hero to replace my hero spell. 62k plat is my currently total and am using ah now for selling but not buying of items.

Well been some big changes for little Varr. In an optional chest on the way to Trail by Fire I picked up a Portable hole finally.............while sitting on 67 gianthold favor.........gerr! So I ran off and got my 5th back pack finaly one quest before getting my static reward portable hole, instead took the shard. Joined a group and ran Madstone Elite which leveled me and got me my 14th and 15th relic....45 to go! Level 10/2 brought me Empower and Enlarge (which I cant live without for the mass suggestion I so dearly love next level.) I am up to 66 k plat.....unfortunalty I now have a level 4 slot for stone skin. So 29k plat later I now have 37 k plat and 1000 stone skin ingrediants (ouch!) Up to 138 hit points now with a ring of improved false life and minos helm on (still no con item but I have gotten a +6 str belt..blah!) This has been enough hp to run safely now so no longer really feel squishy and will improve once I get that con item found. Almost 700 sp now which lets me blur and hero, keep the party hasted for most the quest at 2 min a pop, and cast a couple solid fogs or 69 sp super hot extended firewalls. My concentration and umd are maxed for level and I have reached my personal cap on search and disable which is 14. Will be bringing my ol (now at 10.5) then spot/diplomacy up to 14 going forward as I keep my concentration and umd capped. To my amazment I have found in total 1 cure light wand and two repair serious wands. My umd is not getting much work yet but would guess I will come accross some tasty item I will need it for to equipt. To my annoyance, I joined a group for von 4 (I was dragon ready at this point) just to help and on normal blew up my second trap box! I rolled a 3 +35 dd on one of the boxes behind the shrine on von 4 normal and it crit failed on me!

While running Madstone Elite, I was asked about guilding by a registered group, The Dark Exile. After answering and asking a few questions about game play, teamwork and the like...........I was sponsered into The Dark Exile. I was able to run again a few min later with two other guildies a Prison of the Planes run on elite and after running two runs with 5 different guildies was very pleased with group. Looking forward to expanding the socail side of little Varrs experiance on Thelanis and suckering.....I mean working with my new guildies on runs that I and they could mutualy benifit from. Hehe! On my current to do list.......Ghola fan and Shreaking mines, the crucible, cursed crypt twice to upgrade my silver flame trinket to second and third tier, von 5/6 on hard then 1-4 on Elite. This should take little varr to level 13 and Greater Hero and Mass Suggestion. Onwards and Upwards!

glad to hear things are working out for you nicely :) If you need shadow crypt I know I keep that one open (though on hard) on my bard Gaelsong. That will at least give you one upgrade.

Clay is offering to run Crucible with me and now roses for one upgrade on the silver flame! So very nice. Im down for both! Sure you know roses, but others may not..........you can actually do your first second and third tier upgrade on your silver flame or emerald claw trinket by running the cursed crypt 3 times instead of doing the bloody, shadow, and cursed crypts 5th quest. The advantage to doing that three times is that I think it is actully a bit easier than the shadow crypt (or maybe jsut less annoying) and more importantly you get a chance to pull the +5 mith full plate or better yet the scourge choaker. Maybe we can get that one set to open on one of your toons together roses like you have shadow set! Win win!

Yeppers I know but I dont have any toons who can open the cursed crypt...I too am a transplant from another server and so can only open certain things. Tonite Ill be on Sarlona but perhaps can find you tomorrow nite? I usually run with Clay, but I have to get my current cleric Suzee about 25k xp to get to lvl 11 and today has been a bad day for pugging ~sigh~

Kudos to you for the no twinking thing, I know how hard it can be...all my toons on Sarlona are in a guild that runs like that and it makes things quite a challenge, but an enjoyable one..and closest to the pnp feel. We have some unusual builds and we really have our skills and items suited to the party as a whole not us as individuals. We dont twink, all items are only what we find in chests....we do buy from vendors though. Not that you want to rush right out to another server to do it again, but if you are ever interested it is called the dedicated teams guild on sarlona, though there is a branch on thelanis that started recently.

Edit...oh I like the shadow crypt actually..2 casters and a cleric and youre good to go :P

My real life brother Samsneak (where did he get that name!?) has infected me also, I admit.
My 15 Pally has one level of Cleric, but I do love playing him as he is ... (800 manna, 13 DV's, 4 Lay on hands!)
My 8 Bard has one level of Wizard, and the jury is still out on whether or not I like this.
My 9 Rogue, 3 Pally, 2 Fighter, is a mutt also, and I love it, I confess.

However, in my defense, and to prove I have a strong sense of self ...
My 14 Cleric is pure cleric, though tempted to take 1 Sorc for manna.
My 16 fighter is pure fighter, well, for now ... he is tempted to take one Ranger 'cuz pots cost!
My 16 Wizard is pure Wizard, and is not even tempted for anything else.

Now as to my Monk, Neowine ... I don't know yet. :)

Day 19 brings Varr to level 13.2. Key points.........up to 160 hp (with 10 for giant hold favor (1100 favor acumulated so far with no focus on this), improved false live ring, +2 con item, and the minos helm. 745 mana to burn now with a pop 5 tangleroot gemstone. Stats are now 12 str 12 dex 16 con 26 int 11 wis 14 cha with items on (+2 str, +2 con, +3 int, +3 wis, +4 cha) Got a +6 str belt I have found but unable to ah it yet, down to 100k plat and will keep pricing lower till it sells. Weapons of note, +2 tendon slice holy scimitar, +3 returning holy throwing dagger of enfebiling, w/p heavy crossbow, and my improved potency 3 scepter. Dragon marks heal for about 50-least, 120-lesser, 145-greater..........am finding I use the 8 least on myself and the other 10 helping cleric on fighters durring the nasty fights.
Currently dragon, titan and dq flagged. About 20 more relics for tor run which I hope to do at level 14 about sunday.
This character is starting to be able to power thru gianthold quests on elite thanks to greater hero and buff line, pretty hot firewalls and solid fog combos, and mass suggestions that land 70% of the critters it is cast on. Unfortunatly he is not quite as tough as I have been playing him, and have been dieing more than I should, so I will have to get back out of the front lines till I find a greater false life belt and con 5/+1 tome or con 6 item to get my hp in the 200 range. (You should see me play my zerg 16 sorc on Khyber........most of my solid fogs and firewalls are already burned out by the time the barbarians catch up!) So.....I have to tweek a bit my playstyle.......I porpously created a softie, to make me get back in the party, my extra mana has gone to my head a little and Im going to have to check Varr and reign him in just a bit.
Unable to spot, search, and pick locks for most of the level appropriate Elite content atm (normal is 100% and Hard seems to be 90% to the good.) Im mostly sitting on +5 items with +5 pics and a poor dex and int for the build. By level 15 I expect to have mostly +11 and 13 times and have a 18-20 dex and 30-32 Int, at that point the rogue skills should swing back into a reliable range for elite content also.
I poorly planned a von 5/6 guild raid at 11 est and had one clannie show up for it. I will be looking to run more guild raids and will have to adjust start time to acomidate more members. For me maybe the biggest draw to a clan is the ability to pull together reliable and comforable raids, pulling the first 8 of 12 right off the guild site, then pugging the holes. More to come!

Level 14.4 is here and level 7 spells at 13/2 are right around the corner. Perfectly happy with varr at this point. Instakill will be his challenge once finger and banishment open up next level, will see what he is able to do. Otherwise spell casting for buffs, cc, charm, and damage have been terrific. Done all the vale content thru hard as the primary rogue and rocking +11 items and have int up to a 28 (32 is target with level up at 16 and +6 item instead of 5 and +3 tome, or +6 item and 3rd teir enhancment and +2 tome)........have had no missed trapboxes nor crit failures.

Run reaver raid twice now, and got a shroud run thru part 3's conclusion last night.

Hp 168, mana pool 843, 28 int.......base skills umd concentration at 17, ol dd 14, search 14.5.

With the shroud came the loot...........found a smiting shortbow to trade with party member for a found +5 int ring (still untweeked.....will trade but in a realist type of sence of things), have +11 rogue items now, +5 mith breastplate and +4 light shield to alternate with the robe of invulnerability, Smiting longsword, +1 vorp khopesh of pure good are the best so far.

Items on my radar.........24 more black scales, +6 int +1 dc reaver cloak, Titan gloves +5 umd and -10 spell failure, Fire Fire Fire Shroud gauntlets for mana and +6 int skills, reaver ring for +4 cha/+10 socal skills, Dq torc, 3rd upgrade to my silver flame amulet, greater falselife belt, +6 dex boots, +6 con ring, compliment of tomes, superior potency 6 one hander, and Pos Pos Pos Shroud throwing hammer for fun.

So..........Reaver raid and preraid farming, titan (likey 20 runs for the gloves), shroud farming, and a bit o Dq coming up. Xp is just rolling and Im sure I will blink and be capped. Levels 8-12 were long for xp farming but 1-7 and 13+ roll.

Kewl glad to hear your shroud run went wll and you got such nice pulls :) If you are looking to run dq, look me up I need dq1 on suzee, gaelsong and deviliscious, but redhawt and shakkei are flagged for the raid. So we can get some multiple runs in . Although I would prefer to hold off on some toons til mod7 hits so we can get the new raid unlocked. :cool:

Had a fun run on Ritual Sacrifice on hard the other night with several 14's and two 16's. My little rogue also got his 1750 favor shortly after that run. Cya around Stormreach.

Roses it is a date! I also have been holding off dragon run and dq (do need ot do dq 1 though!) waiting for june 3rd! Will be running reaver again on Friday and Shroud tonight and Saturday Im sure! There's a Legion guy running around with a very similar tag, although I've used mine for a long time, just didn't seem to fit well for mmo PC's for me. But, if I know you in game, good stuff. :) And thanks Varr, I'll defenitely have to look you up again.

Bump.........I referance this thread a suprizing amount. Just now for the Ive just got to say thread.

For further update.......now 2 1/2 months in.......have clipped 1750 favor and have about 50 completed raids (3 Vision, 6 Hound, 12 Shroud, 15 Reaver, 4 Von, 6 Titan, 6 Dq.)

And Little Varr has truely found a home with IFV. Terrific guild on a terrific server.
