Okay...drunken thought-form time...

I'd like to share with everyone a nice, easy, SIMPLE way to let everyone know that you're still away from your bloody keyboard. Put up your /lfh !!! Tharashkians have been doing this since headstart to let the group know that we're afk. This is especially useful during a particularly long raid when the smokers need to head out and do their thing while everyone else takes that opportunity to dodge family agro by saying "Hello...I'm still alive" to them.

Honestly, most Tharashkians thought this was a DDO-wide practice, but no...instead, every single Thelanian and Xoriat that I've run into insists on just standing there like a lump with no visual indication that you're ready to get moving. And when they do return to their keyboard...? Half the time (no exaggeration for once) they don't say anything, type anything, or even twitch the character. Give us a freaking visual indication that you're back or still away, already!

Of course, I've been getting mildly irritated at another little quirk both of our new neighbors seem to think is entertaining...When I go afk, I've been getting Thelanians offering me ham for RP purposes (they think it's cute) and Xorians offering me ham because they're being sarcastic (they think they're original). No, ******!!! If you see a Tharashkian with that silly floating ham above his head, it means he/she is A-F-BLOODY-K!!!!

Stop sending me tells with "Har-har...You're looking for ham and I'm giving you one...Har-har...you there...? Hello...!? And I thought Xorians were rude..."

Seriously, though...if you type that useless /lfh command to indicate that you're afk, it'll make life a helluva lot more simple. Everyone heads out for a quick break, ham goes up...when each person returns, twitch your character to make it disappear and let the group know you're back. It'll make a world of difference, folks. Trust me.

Been using it off and on since we grouped together; I personally think it is a good idea and works well if everyone is on the same page. Heck until you told me I was like what the heck is this guy always doing /LFH on the PvP ledge! LoL

I have also never had a problem in a party when someone goes afk - they usually post in party afk bio, letting the dog out, getting a drink, etc. and then usually say I'm back when they return. In party afk no prob. It's in general that I have to toss up the lfh. ppl walk by and go 'oh hey blah blah blah blah blah' and not in tells lol. Especially the rpers, knowing that I'm also an rper, who come up to try and interact w/ my characters. Naturally the lfh is very out-of-character lookin, so that's why I went with it. Going to sleep, sitting, facing in the corner. staring off aimlessly... none of that seemed to get the point across lol.

Like I said, it's about 50% of the time...which is waaaaaay too often, imo. Even the folks who are religious about letting people know they're back have a senior moment...but those of us who are too damned old to go without diapers know that something's out of place when they see a bit of pork resting on their head. Reminds us to move and get rid of the silly thing, which in turn tells everyone else that you're at least paying attention to the screen.

For those of you who have adopted this little tidbit, thank-you. I actually saw a marked improvement tonight while pugging. And this is from people that I've been grouping with several times already since the merge. *thumbs up*

For some reason, I couldn't get the Permadeath guy to see the logic of this. For the life of me, I can't figure out why. :D

use the /lfh. you may be left standing at the door to the vault while i'm talking to the dwarf if you don't (tharashk hates incompetence). it is a clear visual indication that you are not there.

/afk is nice when your not in group so folks don't think you are blowing them off when you don't respond to tells.

In a raid, with conversations rolling and the chat window scrolling, we've been known to leave people behind and start the final fight. We always tell new people to put up their /lfh and we explain why. When we don't see the ham floating above your head, we assume (after instruction and explanation has been given) that you are ready to go into the next instance.

Yes, we understand that maybe whoever is yammering should just shaddup. But since every single one of us is guilty of talking too much at some point or another, we use this universal visual to show who's back and who isn't. After using this in raids for well over a year, it's obviously become habit for us to go /lfh in all parties and instances when we step away from the keyboard...regardless, you can be assured that Tharashkians aren't using it to be silly. There is a method behind our madness.

Needless to say, he didn't make the team - and I didn't dignify him with a reply..

I swear, the idiots were coming out of the woodwork. All I could think about was how immensely gratifying it would be to connect with a solid shield bash right to their beak.

My best story of yesterday? (FYI, in addition to flying 8-10 days a month, I also work part time at a local outfitters just to get out of the house when I'm not on my flight block.) We had a real genius of a guy bring back a kayak, sit-on-top style, and tell us that it was defective because it "leaked". When I asked him where it was leaking from, he pointed to the self-draining scupper holes and said "Water was coming in there." It was all I could do not to reach out and slap him but instead responded, "Those are self-draining scupper holes. Water is supposed to come up through them to cool you. It's one of the features of this type of kayak."

He had already told us he didn't talk to anyone, just got it off the wall and paid for it, so when he responded, "Well, no one told ME that!"

Even the head cashier got into the groove and told him, "Well I'm sure if you had talked with one of our knowledgable people, they'd have pointed out this fact and made you aware of it. I'm sorry sir, but we can't return this product since it is not truly defective and you just didn't take the time to research what you were buying. We cannot resell it due to liability."

The guy popped a cork and we had to call the police.

And that was all by 9:30am, and the store only opened at 9:00am. The day got worse from there.

Why does this smack of the type of player who spies a LFM, reads it (or maybe doesn't), hits JOIN, and then the first words out of their mouth is "Hey, what are we doing and where do I go?"

The problem with the /afk is there is no visual indication and it only sends a message if someone send you a tell. There is also a problem with people forgetting to do a /afk off when they come back.

With the /lfh it is nice and visual plus it goes away as soon as you move.:cool:

Besides dancing means your getting impatient and are ready to get started with the F***ING quest that you've had a full party for the last half hour, but someone when afk just before the last person joined.:mad: Even worse you have the tag team afks where just before or as one person returns someone else goes afk.:mad:

So, to calm down I just break dance till the whole party is ready to roll.:cool:

Beside we former Tharashkians are a bunch of hams anyway.:p

On Lhazaar (Poor Lhazaar) we always used lookign for ham on Wednesdays at the Lhazaar Bazaar to let other players know which of us were trading or selling items. My plan to get the bazaar going again on Ghallanda now.

...as would be evidenced by the large number of level 14 toons who were LFM this morning, had the quest and difficulty actually set, and showing wanting a caster.

The only problem was, they really wanted a tank. I don't know about you, but it seems pretty difficult to mix up the icons for Fighter, Barbarian, and Paladin with those of Wizard or Sorcerer.

I guess for some folks, basic mechanics are not so basic. :eek:

Not sure if it's just me or a known bug, but I've had cases where I don't see the posted quest in the LFM window. You have to actually scroll over the blank spot where the quest name usually is to get all the info.

It's not just you...might be a bug, like you said. Sometimes those folks don't have a quest up, though, and I avoid those groups altogether...that includes the LFM's with the "group decides what we do" note. I've better things to do than make up someone's mind for them. Like starting my own LFM with all the pertinent information in the aforementioned note area.

People just don't read. Last night after having 3-4 people join a Dragon Raid that hadn't done 1-4, the leader posted that you need to have von 1-4 completed to do the raid. Then we get people joining because they think we are now running von 1-4. Which one are you guys doing now? sigh

My pet peeve is people ignoring the quick run on normal comment.

I cannot count the number of folks that have responed to LFMS for the Vons or DQ flagging with "Can we do this on elite?" Every time that this happens I think to myself, great another AC who can't get favor with his friends and guildies that wants to run it now. "No dammit we can't do it on elite!" The whole purpose of a speed run is speed not favor, not loot, speed.

About half the time after they get the resounding "NO!" the response of "Well its not that much harder" comes out of their mouths. Which leads me to thinking if it wasn't that much harder AC then you would have that fave by now.

I don't mind doing flagging quests on elite to helps folks with fave, never have, but not when I am trying to do a bloody speed run.

the difference here was that in anticipation of the non-displaying quest bug, my note field contained the quest we were doing. Now, I suppose that it's possible to get your sorcerer to level 14 without having ever heard the term PoP, but I have yet to find someone of that nature..

Isn't PoP something you drink?

Comes in various flavors like Coke, Root Beer, Orange, Mountain Dew, etc?

Some of which go very will with certain quantities of alcohol? Which according to Scars is required for a GOOD run? (Though if memory serves me correctly, he said beer).

As someone's signature line says: It's 3AM, do you know what your guild leader's BAC is?
