Default The Math of Smite Evil

I'm trying to figure out the math behind DDO's version of Smite Evil.
Looking through DnD 3.5 rules Smite Evil:
Adds your Charisma Modifier to your attack roll
Grants a damage boost equal to your paladin level

    DDO's Smite Evil tool-tip states:
Gain twice your Charisma Modifer to your attack roll
Grants a damage boost equal to your paladin level

Doesn't seem to justify the 70-80 damage a 16th level paladin does and doesn't seem to make a logical sense how a critical can do upwards of 240-260 with a long sword (which is x2 multiplier).

Can anyone help enlighten how smite evil works in DDO?
I'd like to see if it can, at all, apply to table top.
    MONKEYS or EXPLOSIONS?!

On DDO, smite evil adds 2x charisma modifier to its attack roll and (3*paladin level)+7 to base damage.

The 'exalted smite' enhancements improve your critical threat and multiplier with smite evil attacks, up to a total of +2 to each.

Smite evils recharge at a rate of 1/90 seconds. They're great burst damage (and if you are two-weapon fighting, you'll do one with each hand when you use it), but don't do as much total damage over a longer fight than the other paladin damage buffs/abilities/enhancements, due to their limited number. However, they don't do that much less, and they're great for burst damage. Exalted smite enhancements also reduce the cooldown, and maxed out you can smite every 2 seconds (and you'll have like 13 a day), giving you unparalleled 30 seconds of mayhem.

my math may be a little off, but:
a longsword crits on a 7 or 8 base roll (x2, but ignore that for now)
at level 16, a non-crit, normal smite with a 1d8+0 longsword would do:
    6 + (3*16 + 7) = 62
    on crit:
    (7 + (3*16 + 7)) * 2 = 124
    exalted II:
    (7 + (3*16 + 8)) * 3 = 189
    exalted IV:
    (7 + (3*16 + 9)) * 4 = 256

Now, presume you have a +5 longsword with a total to-damage as 1d8+30:
    (30 + 7 + (3*16+9)) * 4 = 376... count both hands and you have 752 points of "**** off evil thing" damage.

How about a green steel with a 1d10 roll of 9?
    (30 + 9 + (3*16+11)) * 4 = 392

so.. If I have 38 str, divine might +8 up, divine favor up, power attack and exhalted smiting 4 with an epic sword of shadows, you end up doing...

    (21str + 10 weapon + 10 power attack + 67 smite +12 average base damage +8 divine might + 3 divine favor) x 2 = 262 non crit ( 1572 with x6 crit damage?)

There is no x2 in the damage, it' be 131 base and 4x that for the crit, though you left out some things that could impact the base damage.

longswords crit on a confirmed to hit roll of 19-20 (17-20 with impr crit). the damage die has nothing to do with a critical.

I think he is wondering about where the x2 goes from exhaulted smite. So, wouldn't it be 131 base x6 since the ES +2 would be added to the crit multiplier of the X4 of Epic SOS.....to equal a X6 multiplier.

31 Str, but I can get +4 more with double madstone (don't think 31 includes regular rage) (wasn't in pali DoS3 stance either)
28 Cha (soon to be 30 if I ever get done reading that sexy +4 book.)

Regular crits with the Epic SoS land around 190-250, Epic smites hit for anywhere between 700 and 831 so far (831 did include bard songs, etc.)

Gotta remember all my relevant gear but Tharnes Goggles, Bloodstone, if I'm not madstoned I try to get zeal and the othe pali spell.
    Unsub'd.
