    Default Bow attack speed increase after U59?

    Has anyone else noticed a huge increase in attack speed with bows after the update this morning?

    My character is a Bard7/Rogue1 with no ranged combat feats, and just uses his bow to supplement his SLA's. Since the update, it feels like he's attacking as fast as he would with a melee attack. Or is it that bow attacks were messed up before and he wasn't attacking as fast as he should have, but it got fixed with the lag fixes?

    My character was a Bard18/Rogue2 before he TR'd, and I've never seen him attack so fast before, even when he had BAB +20 thanks to the Warchanter 5th Core Enhancement.

    Not really, but I feel like shoots are hitting more often than before so it may seems like it?

    Looks the same to me.

    I wish it were faster, though.

    That new firing arc IS pretty wicked I must say.

    IIRC it's possible to reach the attack speed cap (which I think is the same as for THF) without having BAB20 as long as you have Haste, alacrity items. Not sure if you need shot on the run?

    Arrows are actually hitting more often now in stead of disappearing in nothingness due to lag. Scattershot actually works now

    It certainly seems that way. I just reincarnated a disaster build (Cleric/Ranger 14/6 what the h... was I thinking?) into a dark apostate using a bow as a favored weapon.

    Don't judge me. I like bows.

    Anyway, like the OP I was in about three levels and the firing rate was so-so. Figured I would have to take Rapid Reload to help it along.

    Then the update and wham. Seems like triple the speed. Very satisfying.

    So I popped onto my capped ranger who is specced for bows and it didn't seem much different for him although he was one shotting most mobs in legendary Isle of Dread.

    Even if it has not been altered it is very satisfying.
    What do you mean a -6 armor class is no good anymore?

    Baldric, Mulray, Tirimon, Clant, Melkazar, Dorakeen, Blastium

    Have not noticed anything different in terms of speed or damage on any of my bow users.

    Is it possible that bows are just less painfully slow at low levels now? I haven't rolled up a new low level character to test it yet.

    I certainly am not noticing much difference on my level 15 DH archer. However I am now also running with haste and 12% ranged attack speed all the time. Bows are tortuously slow at low levels in my experience, if would be nice if they adjusted that.

    I don't play bow on my ranged, but judging from NPC bow attacks it does feel like they did something. The shots seem much harder to (actively) dodge. Pre-U59, I could step a bit left/right at leisure and nothing would ever hit me. Now, I need to step pretty quickly and more than just one tiny step.

    This could be due to less server lag (more lag makes it easier to dodge attacks). It could be altered arrow physics (fatter or faster arrows). It could be faster attack rate.

    I'd say it feels about the same at cap for me before and after update. Could just be less lag meaning more hits, wider arc being more forgiving landing more hits. The hit rate has to be up given all the missed shots lately (on Orien at least). Stuff is mostly hitting now rather than lag dry fire.

    Default Update: the increased attack speed is gone

    Update:

    I was doing Sands of Menechtarun today, and I remember having the rapid fire attack speed on my way to Offering of Blood, and I had the attack speed during the quest, and then I went on to Chamber of Raiyum, and I think I still had my rapid attack speed then? But after finishing Chamber and as I was on my way to Chains of Flame, I noticed my attack speed was back to how it was before.

    So normally when I attack, I go through the whole draw the bow back animation. But when I had the rapid fire, it was like it the animation took 1/2 or 1/3 the time it normally did. It was like I had a Gatling bow. It was amazing. For a while I thought it was on the same level as melee attacks and didn't suck at all. Now it's back to slow shooting and it sucks.

    The only change I can think of between the quests was that I reset my Enhancement tree, specifically my Stormsinger enhancement tree. I can't think why any enhancement in that tree would affect my bow attack speed.

    *sigh* Oh well.

    I disagree, bow misses have gone up, and damages have gone down. I’m at Ranger 7, but I’m new to ddo. I’ve played AD&D since 1982. This is all new for me, but you can’t avoid the obvious slapping you in the face.

    This is a good depiction of what I am noticing. When I first log in my fire rate seems very fast. Almost like having a perpetual manyshot on. But as I play a little longer it seems to slow down. Think firing every second versus every three seconds.

    It also seems that my spells then start to go awry. Hit the key, spell fires and then there is a casting animation.

    Lag related?
