Default Fridays at Four 1-20-2023 - Update 58 news / Cordovan Floods the Harbor With Kobolds

Once again, Cordo answered questions and gave news about what's coming up. Nothing too different from last week's stream. Unfortunately, things were a bit more disjointed this time so I had to skip around in the stream. If that was intentional, clever of him.

    Stream Link: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1713330442

    Server Transfers

    - Free transfer period to Orien and Sarlona coming soon. No promises from Cord but he thinks it will be in a week or two.

    Update 58 stuff:

    - Third archetype and a new quest will be added in one of the upcoming patches for U58.

    - Cord thinks we may have 2 more rounds of Lam previews (he said "third lamania, so that is what I assume he meant).

    - The goal right now seems to be to have U58 up before the end of Febuary, which is also when they will have the anniversary event for DDO.

    Producer's Newsletter:

    - Cord did say that he's still putting together the page for the next producer's newsletter and that it will be in the next couple of weeks.

    Community /Stream News

    - The twitch channel Arcanaverse (https://www.twitch.tv/arcanaverse) will have an appearance from Torc to discuss the story behind the Isle of Dread raid puzzle.

NOTE: Time will be 1/28/2023 at 7:PM (EST) (thanks Magnus_Arcanis for providing the specific date and time!)

    - DDO Cast has found a new host to replace Patrick. They will be debuting tomorrow (this Saturday 1-21-2023).

    - Cordovan hopes to have Severlin on next week to take questions about U58 and the future of DDO. He said that if you have questions, you will need to ask them in the stream because they usually get plenty of questions in the stream.

    VIP / Subscription news updates:

    - Still the same answer as last time. To be more specific, it's still being discussed internally, and he's not allowed to say anything else.

    Hardcore league ending soon:

    - He reminded us that the HC league season ends on Feb 7th.

    Snowpeaks coming soon:

    - Same as with last show, Cordovan said snow peaks should be out next month.

    Note:
He spent about 10-15 minutes going through the U58 release notes. I skipped most of that since he didn't really say anything that I felt was different from what was in the notes. The rest of the stream was him showing off the silly things he can do as an admin on Lamania, like flooding the harbor and test dojos with kobolds. Thought it was fun to see also the "aura of smiting".

Again, if I missed something or got something wrong, please feel free to point it out.

I have to comment on this. I do understand the problem with getting HC characters to those two servers, but unless SSG can somehow restrict the free transfers to those exact characters AND to only xfer the items they actually got on HC then there is a glaring issue with this idea.

It will be a really huge advantage to those servers because other characters and other items will ALSO be able to freely move there.

That is too large an advantage in terms of attracting more people (thus removing them from the other servers) and being able to transfer other items from daily rolls etc.

So, unless SSG can somehow restrict the free transfer to the actually relevant characters and items (and I doubt they can) then the free transfers really have to be TO any server also to level the playing field. Anything else is just too unfair in tems of the competition for getting the remaining too few people playing DDO to your server.

Thanks for doing that part of the work.

It SHOULD be done by the dev team, frankly speaking, but I'm nevertheless glad it exists.

    I agree with that completely

On the topic of Cordovan flooding the harbor with Kobolds I really don’t see the point in seeing this type of stuff if it’s not happening in game

The MMO I played before DDO had an event like this every Saturday morning where Players would amass in one area & the Devs would show up spawning increasingly difficult waves of mobs until either the final wave was killed or all the players were killed then the Devs would spawn in rewards based on the number of waves cleared waves towed the end would include multiple raid bosses less whatever raid mechanic required for defeat

    Disappointing, but not surprising.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of watching any of these lol. Seems like the last 2 had no actual definitive news or info.

That sounds awesome I like the sound of that and would like it In DDO. I bet the Devs and Cordo would enjoy doing that too.

    Thanks for this post!

I get that most of what's said here is a plan an not a commitment, I'm 100% fine with this and wish team DDO could deliver similar easy to follow easy to find plans of what they think they might do.

Can we all agree that the forums are full of cantankerous coots & noobs who find some kinda enjoyment in pointing out inconsistencies? so, just give us a loose plan and change that loose plan as the needs/desires pushing that plan change and be relentless in not apologizing for changing your mind, but also please be relentless in transparency.

If Cordo is not allowed to say something, it speaks to a toxic relationship between players and dungeon masters. The only secrets he should be forced to keep are around game mechanics and other stuff players can discover...not, business relationships such as VIP.

    IMO, of course

Because it takes several weeks to slam out 15 lines of HTML.

That says plenty. "Discussed" means "they aren't doing jack". If it takes 3 weeks to create a web page it will take 9 months create a proper VIP benefits package and they haven't even agreed that they will do that.

If I could lower my expectations any further I would.

This happened in DDO previously, the time before 2009 when +Sir Lawrence and other GMs were here.

Back then, Cordo was not the Community Manager, he was an actual player amongst us. Tolero was the Community Manager.
I am not sure as that would put "moar" work on Cordo as he is pretty loaded already.

But back then there was a support team and tickets get responded within 15 minutes.

But back then, nothing was free; every player was VIP and was paying a monthly subscription.

"Not allowed to say" just means that its it not finally decided yet so it would be silly to say something yet. That is simply common sense from the Devs as it would be for any business.

Cordo is still making appearances on servers every now and then and, depending the occasion, spawning silly rewards/gifts.

The servers can't handle a massive playerbase in a single instance, so often he's only on for 5 mins or so, does his thing, and then leaves.

The problem is this is DDO where the devs have extremely poor communication habits with players. We're all so fed up with the lack of transparency that any news becomes bad news.

After 10 attempts, it's safe to say transfers to Orien are still fubar

Maybe the launcher/transfer guide can help?

    Come on SSG...

Transfers to Argo have been broken for a month now. Will we get free transfers there?
