Question on Friends List and Chat-Related Issues

I want to get a better sense of how many players are still experiencing issues with their Friends list and other chat-related issues, like voice chat not working and/or guild chat not working. We KNOW Thelanis is still experiencing this issue, but not how many are impacted. Additionally, it isn't clear if this is still happening outside of Thelanis. Let me know.

Still happening on most of my logins. If I invite a guildie to party, so far zero chance chat will work: both text and voice broken.

While Playing on Khyber voice did not work for me on Saturday Evening between 11PM and 2 AM Eastern. I could hear half the party, Nobody could hear me, and not everyone could hear everyone else. Party Chat worked.

Things were very laggy last night on Thelanis. Our guild had around a dozen people on. Sometimes the various chat functions worked (tells always seem to work), sometimes party voice works. Sometimes it doesn't or only works for certain people.

We've been having voice issues with this for months now where someone joins a party late or has to restart a frozen client and when they return or join, they aren't in voice. Reforming the party sometimes fixed this, sometimes not. Right now, we've switched to mostly Discord because the voice is so unreliable and has been for months. Doesn't help with chat functions, though, which are unreliable since the recent server work. Better last night, but not fixed.

So I don't know if the problems are related, but chat seemed somewhat better (but not fixed completely) and voice was at least as flaky as it has been for months now.

It's 'there', just not showing.

[Thelanis] Mine is also empty, but doing an "Import" runs the list and 'refreshes' some characters, according to the chat dialog. But Friends window still shows empty.

Party chat:
5 party runs over the last 2 days on 5 different logins. I had access to party chat on 3 of them but in each party, there was at least 1 person in each party who had party chat borked.

Guild chat:
Seems to be hit or miss. Always shows up for me when I type it but only about 50% of guildies on see it. Same when they type something, I only see it on about 50% of my logins.

Friends list:
Friends list was populating fine until yesterday for me. I had added a new friend the night before and they showed up when I first logged in yesterday, then Friends list was blank when I logged in again later in the day.

Will try to get more data (including times) over the next couple of days.

Same with me, on Ghallanda, Friends list MIA. Multiple guildmates confirm the same thing with them.

On G-land, I've repeatedly had chat issues. Since I don't use the chat channels much, I don't know if that's affected. I repeatedly get hit with a huge lag spike with upwards of 50% packet loss. Then, it'll start bouncing between getting disconnected from the chat server and reconnecting to the chat server. Sometimes it's just one cycle of that and other times it's 3 or 4 times. All this with a yellow network status icon until it turns to red at the chat server disconnects. Sometimes, it loses the network connection completely and closes the client. When it does that it's also likely that I won't be able reconnect for a couple minutes - the launcher can't connect to the logon server. After the retries, it quits again. This goes on from 2 - 10 minutes before the logon server is available again.

Now, I've been chalking this up to our network connection here and to the wifi connection to my computer. I'm certain that it's playing it's part in everything after the chat server "hiccups". Now that I see other folks, I'm thinking the initial issues are with the Ghallanda realm and my network issues just make it worse.

As for the friend's list issues ... well, like with the chat channels you have to use the function to notice a problem. Since I mostly solo, or duo with my brother, I don't have a friends list.

I redid my friends list by typing them all in again. That seems to have worked without any hickups. This is on Ghallanda.

Sunday, entire group was able to join any chats.
- Party chat gave errors ('failed to join' etc), but was able to run commands like /roll which the whole party was able to see.
- Guild chat did not give errors, but nothing typed there was displayed to guldies.
- Friends lists were gone and did not reappear.

Everyone used Discord to communicate and there was much gnashing of teeth.

Basicly my whole guild is affected and people I talked to from other guilds to. On Thelanis. Some people have it work in between, but mostly friend lists, all channels(except private messages) and ingame chat are not working.

Just wanted to say that we are still actively investigating, but so far have not been able to resolve it. FYI as well that my own characters on Thelanis are impacted, so it should be pretty easy for me to know when this gets fixed.

So, over a year ago, you were "still actively investigating" but when did you stop and why? You've given us nothing in a year-plus on this major "quality of life" issue. Tell us what is going on and when we can expect a fix!
