Default I can't believe I am making this post but ....

... what is up with the lag lately? I almost never get lag, and I mean almost never. Most of the time when other posters are on here talking about lag I am sitting in my chair wondering what they are talking about.

But this HC season it's gotten atrocious. Particularly in hit detection and damage registering but the odd hitch or rubberband does happen too.

Managed to lose 2 toons in Hardcore so far to damage rolling in from Mobs I have already killed or the last 5 or 10 seconds of damage all showing up at once. It's easy enough to keep up with it, especially on the self-healing builds as it comes in generally but when you get 15+ hits coming in all at once there's just no change or time.

Not sure if others are seeing this or not and just used to it but wow. Something really needs to be done.

And no it's not my PC or connection. I regularly clock over 200 FPS and have 25Meg connection. My setup is generally rock solid, it is something happening server side.

My lag experiences this HC season have all been either at times when many characters were being created continuously (e.g. the first week after the server opened) or the last couple of days before a weekly reset.

Yes, this is definitely back end lag, my latency is in the 25-32ms range and I've only seen packet loss a couple of times this HC season. The servers do not handle the HC paradigm particularly well it seems.

People talk about casters being overpowered, but really the one big thing that my Sorcerer has over my Paladin is that Fireball will hit what I’m aiming at and my Greatsword will miss because the game’s engine messes up “who is standing where” when I’m chasing/being chased.

Agreed, it has started with that "extended downtime" last time they did server restart.

Was fine morning before it, after servers went up, lagfest started...

    Default Bad news....

It's not just HC. Argo has been trash lately, too. Guess it's time for some more 7 days to die.

Lags are definitely worse recently, but recently i'm also experiencing guild chat problems. I'm regularly losing connection to chat, maybe every 3hrs and there's no way to fix this. I tried relogging. Tried resetting client. Tried logging to a different server and logging back. Tryied PC reset. Nothing. Sometimes my guild chat is not working for 30-60min. While guild chat bugs are not something new, usually it was enough to relog to fix it, now there's literally nothing i could do to fix it.

Curious, I get occasional chat DC during lag spike, but never at that magnitude. If it lasts for longer than 10 seconds, I get DC-ed from game...

Make sure to get in contact with support, this is too big issue to ignore. (yes, I know some have bad XP with support, but mine was good so far, so I DO recommend contacting them)

First wishing this one anyone it's something I personally would choose to do. I would hope that nobody experiences significant lag. Also the very title of my post acknowledges that I have been lucky in this regard.

Also I think if you look at my history I never denied there was a lag issue, quite the opposite in fact. It was just something that I didn't see most of the time when others were experiencing it, or if I did see it it then it appeared to be much less pronounced. The fact is that I often attempted to try and help determine if there was a something in common amongst themselves but different for me in settings or connections because it wasn't generally server side lag or at least not wholly sever side. If it was 100% server side then I should have experienced it as well. Sadly there were very few times I was able to help.

In this instance however it is for sure server side. Hit registration, particularly with ranged attacks has always been a little fuzzy but it's much worse lately. And I am not the only one experiencing the lag and sudden application of multiple attacks and hits, I only know of one other person who lost a character to it but many others acknowledged to me they were having the same issue. Both my deaths were in the middle of level 7 so in both cases I hadn't "earned" the freebie which was all the more painful because I really am not a fast leveler typically. There's that piece of my brain that wants all the breakables, mob kills and even optionals even though the XP earned is not at all worth the time in most cases.

Again I don't know exactly what has changed but something in the last patch, maybe last 2, has made things quite a bit worse. I wonder if some old code got merged in that undid a lag fix somewhere else.

I am "ok" with the hitching and rubberbanding to a degree but having 15+ hits roll in after you have killed the MoB is very challenging to deal with, especially if you aren't running a high temp HP build like a Barb. If I die again in HC I am just going to bite the bullet and run a Barb to 20 though, I only really want the scarf and at this point I am not really willing to invest any more time or energy or points into a toon. I upgraded 3 tomes of learning (that sale was a good price point by the way) but when I looked for my new toon the 1195 points was a solid heck no.

I haven't seen the chat issues though, at least not recently. I have definitely seen this in the past but currently I haven't found myself losing connection there. Then again I also don't pay any particular attention to guild chat usually (it's more party or the combat log for me) so it could be that I am having it and do not know it.

SSG maybe x2 or x3 check that you didn't introduce some old code in the last fixes, it very much feels like something built on an old code base slipped in.

With me, chat issues are usually a warning that a DC is coming.

In past years, I used to lose connection with the chat, and then reconnect..... nowadays a chat disconnect is a 20-30 second warning (not timed, just feeling) that I better try to rubber-band to a "safe spot".
