Hello.
Though this forum is for DDO players I am under the impression that there are a lot of computer savvy people. I bought the parts for my first homebuild computer, but I am unsure if i over did it and would like to hear your thoughts.

Before I give you the specs I feel I need to explain what i need this computer for. I need to do robot simulations using either Gazebosim or Webots. I will be running Linux. I also need to do some computational fluid dynamics and run a chatbot program i wrote. I am also going to use it for some 3d stereo vision in full hd which i hope i can get to run in close to realtime so i am thinking about 15 ms for generation of one 3d image. I will also be running a CAD program on it. Finally this machine will also be the one i play DDO on. In all fairness i do not plan on doing all of this at the same time.

So here is what i allready bought:
Mobo: Asus X299-E ROG
CPU: Intel® Core™ i9-9900X
Ram: 4 x 16 GB DDR4 Corsair 2666 Mhz CL: 15
Graphics: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2070 A8G GAMING GPU
Harddisk: Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD M.2

But I am currently suffering from buyers remorse and thinking i could settle for a system with a i9-9900K instead which is almost half price. This halves my memory bandwith and i loose 2 cores, but i gain some turbo clock speed.

A note on the graphics card.
Id like to have the option of upgrading the graphics card and maybe doing sli down the road. Why you ask. Because I plan on writing opencl code and do some heavy computations on these. Furthermore it would be nice to try DDO in 4k, but that’s just a bonus.

Thanks.
