Default Need Help gtwf type Drow Rogue

okay.. so.. been a LONG time.. just got back into game.. and realized how MUCH things have changed since beta and release... SO...

what I am wanting to build.. is a Drow Rogue (assassinish) Melee THF type character... the only two things I am locked into.. are the race and two weapon fighting... everything else is up for debate.

first lifer (just learned that word.. not sure yet what that means ) so be gentle.

Do you want a Two Handed Fighting rogue (which implies Acrobat using quarterstaves) or Two Weapon Fighting rogue (usually Assassin using daggers or kukris)? If it's the latter, do you own Vistani Knife Fighter (currently only available with the $80 and $130 Ravenloft preorders)? If not, you might as well stick with pure DEX-based rogue similar to slarden's (only drow instead of halfling naturally).

Okay, we've had a few threads already about Vistani / Assassin builds so start here: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...-Knife-Fighter

The first question mark is do you want Assassin or VKF capstone? If you want Deadly Shadow, obviously you need to stick with pure rogue and VKF becomes your secondary tree.

If you choose the VKF capstone, you need to decide how many rogue levels you want. Lethality stacks with Vendetta or Knife Specialization, so that's a strong incentive to have at least 18 rog lvls, regardless of which tier-5 you're planning on. Rog 18-19 / monk 1-2 w/VKF capstone would have pretty nice DPS thanks to extra doublestrike from Wind stance and +10 Melee Power from Henshin.

OTOH, deeper multiclass splits open some interesting options: e.g., rog 13 / monk 6 lets you add Ninja bonuses like Sting of the Ninja and Shadow Veil, as well as more MP from Henshin cores; while still granting two bonus rogue feats (usually Opportunist & Imp Evasion) as well as access to Improved Sneak Attack epic feat (+3d6 SA).

    wow thanks...

okay yeah I had already started him Up.. he is 4rog/3mnk right now. using shortswords as ki weapons.

question about armor.. seems my AC is better just wearing clothing.. is that going to stay? or will I be adding light armor later?

as for the talk about "Capstones"... not exactly sure what that is.. I have an idea (I figure once you "cap" a class you restart and are giving some sort of bonus for that cap). SO not sure which way I want to go.. but since I already took some Monk levels.. sounds like the last option is best.

I would post the build.. but not sure where these folks are using for a build creator.

anyway.. thanks so much for your help @unbongwah I really appreciate it.

In architecture, a capstone sits at the very top of a structure (typically an arch or a tower, etc.) It is, typically, the very last thing added on, and finishes the structure (at least symbolically if not literally).

In DDO, it typically refers to the Level 20 Class Core enhancement bonus you have access to, which is only available to pure builds (Level 20 of X class). (There's also the Level 18 class core enhancement to consider, which is why many builds don't dip more than 2 levels outside their primary class.)

For Patron enhancements (Harper or VKF), it similarly refers to the top core enhancement you can attain, but which is still available to multi-class characters. However, since any capstone requires 41 AP, you can only have one, from any tree, class or otherwise.*

Racial enhancements have a much cheaper top choice (and only @ Level 16), so those are not (usually) referred to as "capstones" (but if it were, in context that's what it would be referring to).

(* As a footnote, it is possible (but unusual) to take Tier 5 enhancements in one tree (31+ AP), and still have the AP to get the core capstone in another (41+ AP, none in that tree's Tier 5).)

In that case you're stuck with that MC split until you can TR or LR out of it, so I would do some variant on rog 13 / monk 6. Also you'll be taking the VKF capstone by default.

Most monk abilities require being centered which means robes-only plus ki weapons.

    EDIT: just posted this build.
