I actually enjoy healing low level pugs as new players run around corners, behind obstacles, and in separate directions. It's probably the most challenge you can get at lower levels.
I've been away for 12-18 months, so I would be getting out of a broken 19/1 iconic build and then trying out heroic reapers on a 20 melee assassin for a few lives.
Hey Folks just dipping in. Did u36 bring anything new stealthwise? i couldnt find anything on the matter in the patch release notes.
A new stealthsystem and Ravenloft might motivate me to come back for some more Assassin fun....
They said they changed the occurrence of mobs targeting the wrong player (further away) in groups.
They did nothing to address the issues of how agro is shared for those using stealth, so you would see no difference in solo play or at the front of the group.
"We hope you enjoy the changes" was just salt on the wounds.

Out of interest, has anyone actually seen any evidence that this is working ?
Been playing a bit the last week or so since it came out and been looking for this behaviour and haven't really seen anything to convince me that anything has changed yet.
I still see mobs rush past the whole group to aggro on someone standing behind the group that haven't done anything yet.
Interested to hear other people's experience.
the aggro ai in the game is legen wait for it, waiting for it , seriously when will we get aggro AI working in this game SSG.
when it happens we might get a dary
had to do a little HIMYM humor with thread title
they changed something, now when you die they don't keep following your soul for ~10 secs
and clr hires even on passive and far away are amazing aggro magnets, ofc it's intended i guess (ok, no lol, but assuming hires are only good for dying... at least now they are a distraction, an expensive on raise scrolls cost distraction, tho)
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm
Thx for your replies!
As i am away for more then half a year and might have missed some changes, how are Assassins doing right now?
"They did nothing to address the issues of how agro is shared for those using stealth"
How is agro shared on players in stealth, solo or in grps? What is the actual state of Stealthsystem, Assassination and Agro Ai and how are Assassins doing in Reaper mode? Is Assassination usable there at all?
Looking forward to your answers, thx in advance

Melee stealth assassin is in the worst state it has ever been during my 7 years of DDO. Specifically, there are situations where your stealth scores are entirely ignored and shared during game play. The result of a single fail is now all mobs in the area agroing onto you, and in practice it does not work when you can fail without getting your scores contested and beaten by mobs. The work-around is that the stealth system is never used if your hireling or party members are grabbing agro and you are never at the front of the party. I had few issues when someone else ran ahead and grabbed all the mobs - but I find this really boring. I can't speak specifically for reaper because the game is currently unplayable for my preferences. I suspect that it is difficult to find a group that would agro and drag mobs to you when kiting and ranged insta kills (AoE or single target) are going to be more effective. More likley they run around in circles while you miss moving targets with TWF.
"Assassins" are doing much better if you play a ranged build. They buffed ranged ranged builds to the point you can roll through content without extensive skill or gear. In stealth, ranged builds are more likely to retreat and less likely to run into the situations where stealth scores are ignored.
I would tell you to consider trying a ranged build, I would tell you not come back for melee. Until they make mobs beat your stealth scores (in groups and in solo play) and also give you a way to get rid of agro (in solo play), melee isn't going to work well when using stealth.

thx for ur depressing answer
Well unfortunatly it looks like nothing has changed since i left then unfortunately. I am kind of adicted to mellee Assassins, Stealth and Assassination in ddo. Althaugh iam only a casual player i have played around 6 Rogue past lives on different chars the last 6 years and erveryone has been an Assassin. When i finished my first 2 slaveryitems on my lvl 30 prowler, ddo ****ed up the Stealthplay with the changes to the aggro AI so i left about 8 months aggo. Unbelievable they havnt fixed it somehow since then...
Are u suggesting to play a Mechassasin build or just some ranged build using some instakill skill? I doubt though i will come back for it, if they dont fix mellee Stealthplay.
A Pity Reaper and Ravenloft really sound fun would have loved to play a Rogue Assassin in this new content...
Have Fun All
I will keep waiting fingers crossed
I'm waiting for a fix too - I have no plans to return without one.
Nothing has changed since you left at the U33.2 update
If you want to play melee, you can really only play in groups and mostly at the back of the party. Some people are doing this in reaper.
I couldn't recommend the best ranged build because I left too long ago --> stop back and try one out if you are willing to go ranged.
I just returned from 4 months off and can confirm everything nokowi writes.
hey, cool to learn of another Prowler player!
Reapers autodetect stealth & reaper setting makes melees vulnerable--so take a vulnerable stealthy melee like assassin and ouch. I am still exploring stuff--am going slowly through quests on different settings--but find that reaper needs to be done in a group for assassins with very careful aggro control. That is not all bad but the real issue is, what to do until level 12?
My current solution is 18 rogue/2 ranger. At level 1 take rapid reload; at level 3, ideally you will have a heavy or light repeater so take Exotic Weapon proficiency feat: Light (or heavy) repeater. You get rapid shot from ranger as well as TWF. Use Harper & mechanic until level 12, buffing INT.
After 12, you can take advantage of the stacking faster sneaking enhancements of DWS & Assassin--this lets you scuttle sneak super fast. (This is why 2 ranger works better than 2 arti.) It is very helpful in stealth play (and actually fun!). An assassin isn't really an assassin until level 12 anyway and with the vorpal repeaters you can jump into groups fine until then. Undead are still a problem since vorpal doesn't work on them...
With the knife-throwing class arriving, this split 18/2 might work great with Quickdraw & weapon finesse over repeater use, allowing also for a free feat like improved feint (a new great one for assassins--shorter cooldown than Shiv).
