Hi there DDO community I', a long time dnd/pathfinder player (pen&paper) and have recently stumbled over this lovely gem of a game. Due to my dnd history it appealed to me right away. We are a group of three friends who have bought a vip account and started playing together to explore the worlds of ddo. After a "slight" time investment in trying different characters we have settled down (or my buddies have settled down to their respective characters). A barbarian for melee dps/tank (if im not 100% wrong i think hes frenzied berserker or something like that), a trapper (mech rogue). The "mechy" is a a bit low on dps due to him focusing hard on traps (spot, search, disable) and most of his point in harper tree, but I recon he'll pick up eventually with more points in his proper enhancement tree, which then leads the spotlight to me.
I'm a powergamer at heart. When doing roleplay i take pride in building a proper character who will eventually function at his best and I've also taken this approach to the ddo aswell. When we play together we go by ourself and go by the mindset of seeing how far we can go with only us three, that includes playing dungeons on elite at all times even though on occasion bring us in dungeons higher levels than our. Our goal is to actually three man raids if possible, just for fun of it, very well geared multi TR people are probably doing this solo but we aren't exactly there. What I actually need help with, through this rant is this: What character/build will compliment this team in a best way? I thought of a healer of some sort, but since we are only 3, I need to be able to dish out some dmg or cc or maybe both to pull my weight and a pure healer might just not cut it. I've tried melee cleric, mostly Axel's THF build (which is a great build btw) but I lost interest in it after a while. I even went so far as in creating a tank/healer build based on Axel's with 1h+tower shield (cleric/paladin combo) since i figured we might need a proper dmg mitigating tank (somehow I envisioned Barbarians dps only and no tank) and i actually did hold aggro and mitigate but the dps was **** and proper tanking didnt work out that well compared to similar roles in ex. world of warcraft.
What i do like is casters...so perhaps a pure cleric with blasting dps/heal and maybe some good cc spells...is this viable in 2017 (lots of old builds/posts so not sure what is outdated and what isn't). What would the build be on this? do mind that this is all as a first life. Also as a side note...I actually do like the appeal of warlock and how it functions as a class and on a previous test, my buddies kinda liked the aura that warlock provided in ES tree. Is warlock viable with this group`? We use healing hirelings in dungeons but can Warlock keep up the group with its dps/buffs and hold them aloft with high UMD (wand/scrolls) in raids? What would the build be here? If i had to choose for the most fun, i'd pick warlock but I can settle down with a caster cleric aswell as a close second.
What I have available is: 32 point builds, vip account, morninglord class/race (sucks for him starting at lvl 15 though as the rest of the team is at lvl 7/8), veteran characters 4 and 7.
Hope you guys have some time for some hints.
Kind Regards
Khabeleth
