Default Ranger TWF Question (sorry if it is a stupid one)

Ok I tried to search but my search fu is weak. I know as a ranger they get TWF & ITWF for free and 2 & 6 respectively/ But I also know in the P&P version this only applies when wearing light armor. The question is if I multiclass a ranger with fighter to wear heavy armor do they still retain the feat or do they lose them like the P&P version.

Yes you can wear any armor with any fighting style, non-proficiency will get you a -4? to attack, and I believe you would not get some of the PRR. But with a ftr level you should have all armor profs.

That said, you wont be able to evade in anything heavier than light.

Also there are some enhancements that only work in light armor, like improved dodge.

But yeah if you multi a ftr and rgr you will be able to 2wf using the granted feats in heavy armor, if not going to 11rgr you will have to reach 17dex to pick up greater 2wf, as with this fighting line it is kinda all or nothing to get the offhand procs.

+1 to what RD2play said above. The feats still work just fine no matter what kind of armor you are in (as do the archery feats).

There are enhancements from the Tempest tree that only work in Light Armor and you will lose Evasion if you are in Heavy or Medium. If you're not proficient in your armor, there's a penalty and you lose some of the PRR bebenfit to the point where there's really no point wearing what you're not proficient in. If you have a single fighter, paladin or cleric level, you will have both medium and heavy armor proficiency. FVS and Barb grant medium armor. Note if you have druid levels, you have other issues since you can't wear any metal armor.

There's a number of builds that rely on the free TWF feats and use heavy armor. I just got done running a Heavy Armor Tempest Ranger/Palaldin that ran around in heavy all the time (Eth's NoYellowBar 2.0 build). Works like a charm. I've even seen some Ranger builds that take Medium and HeavyArmor proficiencies (but usually you can find something better).

Heavy Armor got a huge buff about a year and a half ago, then a slight post-buff nerf about 6 months ago. But I found overall light armor + evasion still works pretty darn well, especially on a DEX based build.
