    Default Epic Reincarnation Question

I'm relatively new to the ED system, haven't actually ETR'ed yet and was wondering exactly how EDs are chosen post-ETR

As a case study, lets say I've got a character who's maxed out the Unyielding Sentinel tree. If I were to ETR, not select a new epic destiny and then Heroic TR into, say, a level 20 ranger, what exactly would my epic destiny options be?

    From the wiki:
At level 20, your Destiny may be to become an Unyielding Sentinel if you have at least one of:
    - No Active Epic Destiny and one of:
    - 6 levels of Paladin
    - 6 levels of Cleric
    - 6 levels of Favored Soul

    - Tier Three of Exalted Angel

    - Tier Three of Divine Crusader

    - Tier Four of Grandmaster of Flowers

The way this is phrased, it's clear that I would be able to take Exalted Angel, Divine Crusader and Grandmaster of Flowers as potential epic destinies. However, the first bullet point is the one I'm struggling with. If I have a level 20 ranger who does not have an active ED, does this mean I'll be able to take the Shiradi Champion ED? Or is the wiki phrased strangely and my only options are EA, DC and GoF?

If I am understanding the question, you plan to level your new life to 20 Ranger, but you had Unyielding Sentinel selected on a previous life. You will only be able to select destinies that are attached to Sentinel now (Divine Crusader, Exalted Angel, and Grandmaster of Flowers). You either have to work your way through the destiny map, or get a store item and unlock another destiny without having unlocked it first (Key of Destiny).

You only get to pick a first destiny once per character. Ever. No matter what you do with reincarnations.

After your ETR, TR, and leveling back to 20, your destinies would be in exactly the same state they were before, except all the destiny points are unspent. You would still have your maxed Unyielding Sentinel, and you would be able to pick from that and the destinies unlocked by it (the rest of the divine sphere, and Grandmaster of Flowers).

I believe it resets one of the spheres, if you were a pally with access to every sphere and reset the primal one that one would be reset but the others would be fine, in the case of the divine it acts as if you just got to lvl 20 and you can pick one of the 3. You would need to get to level 4 to gain assess to the rest of your destinies but otherwise they are untouched.

When you reach 20 for the 1st time on any toon, you are able to unlock a destiny, based on what you wrote above. What class you are when you reach 20 is what determines which destinies you can unlock. As you continue to level in epics you gain xp not only for your character level but your Epic Destiny levels well ( whatever you are in). Once you reach a certain point in xp in that ED you can do one of 2 things. You can switch to an adjacent ED or you can continue to gain xp in the ED you are currently in. Most people choose to max out xp in an ED before moving on to another one, but its up to you. Eventually you will continue to move around into all destinies( to unluck them all and your twists), but you can only unlock ones adjacent to the one that you have active ( although I believe there is something you can purchase from the DDO store that allows you to jump around once). You can move back to any that you have opened at any time. Open the map view and you will see what you can unlock and what direction you need to be moving to. Eventually you will have all opened and all max xp and can move into whatever destiny works best for your build. As you gain xp in an ED you are also adding that xp as "Karma" to whatever sphere you are in ( Divine, Arcane, Martial or Primal). When you reach 6 million karma, you can eTR. eTR's take you back to level 1, but gives you enough xp to immediately reach level 20, so basically when you eTR you go back to level 20 and start again, you can change skills, stats and feats, you cannot change classes. You must have enough Karma in a sphere to eTR and to get that spheres epic destiny past life.

If you are in Unyielding S, and you eTR you will still only be able to be in an ED that you have unlocked. You cannot jump to a new ED across the map if its not unlocked. Once an ED is unlocked it is always unlocked even if you eTR or hTR. A lot of people do the double TR ( Iconics cant do this). Once they reach 28 they eTR and grab a new epic past life feat, then they immediately hTR to get that past life and then head back to 28 to do it again, racking up past lives. Some people just go to 28, eTR and back to 28, eTR and back to 28...rinse and repeat to get epic past life feats.

It sound to me like you have unlocked and maxed US and are looking to possibly eTR then hTR to a ranger? If that is the case once you reach 20 you will not be able to jump to Shiradi, as you have already opened US and started working from that side. You will have to work your way to the other side and open Shiradi. Remember you need 6 million Karma to eTR 1st, then you can immediately hTR yourself.

It does make sense sometimes to hTR into a build that works well in the ED's you are about to have to work through. There are a few builds that just seem to work well no matter what ED they are working through. A swashbuckling Bard can move you through the ED'd with relative ease IMO. Mine does very well no matter what destiny he is in. Some builds absolutely suck in certain destines. A sorcerer in Shadowdancer is miserable My suggestion would be to TR into something and spend epic levels opening up and maxing out all of your ED's. Once they are open you can move to whatever you want whenever you want on whatever build you want.
