Default Returning Player, Looking for Mature Guild and Help

    Hey Folks,

Played for quite a long time up until around the time the first expansion was released. I was with Storm Lords until they fell apart and without my regular group I kind of drifted away from DDO. I logged in today and was pretty overwhelmed with a lot of the changes and new systems and such. I'm not sure if I want to stay premium and just use my 25,000 TP to buy all the content packs, or if I'll go back to subscribing by the year and pick up the most recent expansion (presumably I'll want the collector's edition?).

I'm looking for a guild consisting of adults and mature younger folks. I'm always happy to help when I can, but constant begging tends to grate on me after awhile. I've currently got a 20 Favored Soul that I was pretty good at healing in raids with back when I was still playing, and I have a TR1 Artificer at 16, with a smattering of other characters.

I'd love a guild with a good airship (and am willing to contribute on that end), that does raids, and with some folks who are willing to help bring me up to speed on all the new stuff since I last played. I've never played any of the Forgotten Realms stuff, nor any of the Epic level stuff. A lot of what I saw in the interface when I logged in today was pretty confusing, but I suspect it won't take very long to get back up to speed.

I've got a nice headset and am willing to use a third party voice solution, assuming the in game voice is still kind of hit or miss.

I guess drop me a PM or a reply if your guild could use another experienced old timer coming back, and you would be willing to help me get my bearings and catch up with all the new stuff.

    Thanks in Advance,

    first - welcome back!

2nd - stay premium until you know you want to stay. Give it a month - am confident you will like it.

Yeah ... I really just need to find a good group, and someone who is willing to bring me up to speed. So much of the UI is different and there are lots of windows and things which don't make a lot of sense to me. I don't know anything about post-20 progression, and a lot of my feats/enhancements don't work anymore. Plus some of my gear requires a guild, so there's that.

I'm also interested in crafting. When Storm Lords died, I was just starting out on a TR project to take a character through every class, and I've been reading and it looks like I should max my crafting to help with that.

So yeah ... looking for a place with people to play with. I tend to enjoy healing, have experience with the old raids (including the black abbot which was I think the hardest one at the time), am dependable and friendly. I'm going to have a lot of questions and such up front but once I get a grasp on all the changes, I tend to min/max and go out of my way to be helpful and pay it forward.

If you have questions feel free to message me in game, character name Akksol. I can't answer crafting questions since I never really bothered to craft, but I can bring you up to speed on a lot of things.

I will do mate. I've spent the last couple days reading up and it seems that a lot of stuff got nerfed while I was away. I've got a load of questions. My prior experience was that a good group made things a lot more smooth (especially in the 9-16 level range), so still looking for a guild that will have me. I'm certainly going to have a ton of questions at first, but once I pay the year subscription, I'll be reliably active, come to raids, and once I'm up to speed on all the changes, I'll be a sure asset.

I think I'm worth the minor annoyance cost of helping me re-learn the game, heh.

best way to find a good guild is to PUG - since you get to run with people and see what they are like.

and ddowiki.com plus release notes can be your best returning friend.

This is all quite some years ago now, but as I understand it the original GM (who I believe was Australian and was a pretty decent guy) did something that caused some drama, and the officers asked him to step away, and he did so. The guild continued on for quite some time after that with other folks running it. I was doing all the various raids and stuff with a few different groups of people in the guild, and doing TR with a group ... and then one day I logged in and wasn't in the guild. I was told the person who had GM had thrown out everyone but his own characters. We had a chat channel that we all used, but that no longer has anyone in it.

For all I know, it has resurrected in some form while I was away, but with nobody in the chat channel and nobody online with the Tag (and all of the people on my friends list from the guild offline), I simply assumed folks had moved on.

My best recollection for when this happened would be back in 2010 or 2011.

I think people don't really comprehend how much effort it takes to keep a guild going - and how a strong, charismatic leader helps.

Indeed. I was just taking over running raids for SL when the 2nd leader just decided to boot everyone, so I was involved. I've been playing MMOs going all the way back to Meridian, but I first played seriously in EverQuest where I was Raid Lead for one of the world top guilds. In later years after that kind of hardcore play got to be too much work and too little fun, I moved on to WoW with my wife (and LotRO where we have lifetimes, and here) and I've found that I am too much of a pushover as a Guild Leader. Let me run raids and be strict with a leader to whisper me if I get a little too strict, and I function fantastically in that role. Make me the overall leader, and I spend so much time trying to make sure everyone else is having fun and happy that I just burn out.

I miss the heck out of Raiden {Original SL GM} and the other Storm Lords, but I wanted to thank everyone who PMd me and offered me tutoring to get back up to speed on the game, offered me groups whether I join their guild or not, and the several guild offers. I've got a cook out today and after some very dear friends leave I'll jump on and start talking to folks who offered me a guild spot to see where I will fit in best.

I remembered this game's community as being really top notch, especially our server ... and you guys didn't disappoint. Looking forward to catching up on all the new stuff.
