    Default Tree of Death

I have destroyed this tree many times. No Slayer Count. No boosts. Worse than a Pirate Captain to destroy.

    What is it for???????

Yarr, gather 'round me hearties an' I'll tell ye the tale o the trees o death... pass me that grog & i'll continue.

Now, where ter begin? Some say it all started when 'twas once a colony o simple tre-ants. Then ther houses, they 'ad this idea tha the best wood fer their airships would be made from em - summat about the life an magic in em makin' em more, wha's the word... compatable... wi the other magics.
Anyways, the houses, they went on a hunt, fellin' em & clearin em out on a load of little isles.... maybe you've visited Ataraxia's Haven? Used to be a small forest 'afore the houses came. There be a thing there - locals call it tha deadly gazebo - tha be made o wood from the las' one, a mighty monster, killed scores o men & dwarves in it's anger, till 'twas eventually cut down on tha' very hill, and some say it's spirit still haunts it, callin' out for vengeance.

Gimme a refill on me mug, would yer? Mighty obligated to ye.

Now, wi' all them pirates concentratin' at three barrel cove huntin fer the treasure, some o ther survivin' tre-ants, they've gone decided to take a little payback fer their lost kin, huntin' down an' attackin' any who come close, especially those who use airships... which is near everyone these days! As i understan' it, there be a kind o, i dunno... smell, i guess, o ther magic tha hangs aroun' on yer after bein' on one - one feller i knew called it "trace magical resonance".

Another refill? Well, ain't ye genrous to an ol' sea dog?

Me, i reckon it be spirits lingerin' in the wood o ther ships, markin' ye out for huntin' by their survivin' kin... kin tha' can hunt ye for days an nights wi'out sleep, and wi'out needin' transport o their own, seein' as how wood can float an' all... they may be slow, but arr, they be comin' all right, slowly, never stoppin'.. tha only safe place be up in air, where they can' get to ye... in ther airships themselves - but wha' happens when they wake up?

Ed: You see a well-groomed garden. In the middle, on a small hill, you see a gazebo.

Eric: A gazebo? What color is it?

    Ed: (Pause) It's white, Eric.

Eric: How far away is it?

    Ed: About 50 yards.

    Eric: How big is it?

Ed: (Pause) It's about 30 feet across, 15 feet high, with a pointed top.

Eric: (rolls dice) I use my sword to detect whether it's good.

Ed: It's not good, Eric. It's a gazebo!

Eric: (Unusually long pause, even for Eric) I call out to it.

    Ed: It won't answer. It's a gazebo!

Eric: (Pause) I sheathe my sword and draw my bow and arrows. Does it respond in any way?

Ed: No, Eric. It's a gazebo!

Eric: I shoot it with my bow (rolls to hit). What happened?

Ed: There is now a gazebo with an arrow sticking out of it.

    Eric: (Pause) Wasn't it wounded?

Ed: Of course not, Eric! It's a gazebo!

Eric: (Whimper) But that was a plus-three arrow!

Ed: It's a gazebo, Eric, a gazebo! If you really want to try to destroy it, you could try to chop it with an axe, I suppose, or you could try to burn it, but I don't know why anybody would even try. It's a @#%!$*& gazebo!

*(author's note: Ed was in the army, and no, he did not say @#%!$*&. The letter count has not been changed for the linguistically curious. Clue: it was a gerund.)*

Eric: (Long pause - he has no axe or fire spells) I run away.

Ed: (Thoroughly frustrated) It's too late. You've awakened the gazebo, and it catches you and eats you.

Eric: (Reaching for his dice) Maybe I'll roll up a fire-using mage so I can avenge my paladin...

The Trees of death are there to mix things up a bit. After trying to get Brush Hooks out of Overgrowth, running into them was reliving a nightmare.

Well, given the number of bugs recently, would still be nice to get a confirmation whether or not it's intentional that they're around in 3BC. And it not incrementing slayer counts should be a bug, but I didn't fill out a bug report for it myself either... yet. Only killed it once.

If talking about bugs, by the way, most pirates do not seem to contribute to the respective MM slayer counts, by the way. Not confirmed by the numbers yet, but... And no, I am not talking about "human" pirates coppied and reskinned from the Shadar Kai.

Lots of pirates don't count for the slayers either. And lots of treasure bags are unclickable. And inside Legend of 3-toe Thobias on EH we met with midget-sized kobolds that were just standing around. Some normal-sized ones too. Obviously kobolds have kiddies too, but somehow I doubt they'd want to raise them among vampires or their zombified cousins...

Better to say you have only killed one of them as I have fought two of them at a time. It seems "Tree of Death" is the name for a type of mob, not a specific mob. Didn't know they didn't count towards slayer though, so will stop going out of my way to kill them.

I dont understand the fuss, the same set up was with the Astral Panthers in the kings Forrest. Everyone complained it was too hard and there was no chests, so now they have the panthers with rubbish loot chests.
leave the trees they way they are, if you cant kill them then run away. or.... have a go at killing them for some fun.
its intended to be the way its set up with the trees intentionally.

    Cheers.

Can someone explain to me what is Tree of Death? And where?
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

"Of course it is. Are YOU going to question beholder's artistic sense?"

Well if the description above wasn't sufficient explanation.. It's actually a red named mob (wood woad) in the explorer area of epic 3bc.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Evidently not sufficient: my guess was that it is a dryad

In DDO, red name = loot - This appears to be buggy even if it isn't because of the precedent that has been set.

    Then it's stupidly designed.

"lol" isn't punctuation. And wanting things to be properly designed isn't "soft" (not that you can even apply that to a game), it's common sense.
