Don't be afraid to join LFMs. Best way to learn is to join other groups. If you do, stay with the group and just help out. Don't worry about specifics, just think what you can do to help the group out at all times.

Your very first build is going to suck, no exceptions; Do not be afraid to reroll and redo your character.
The first time you level up to 10 or so it's going to take you ages, and you'll say "I don't want to have to play all that same content again for months!" but using all the experience and info you've gotten the first time around, it won't take you even a fraction of the time to reach level 10 again with a better build. Also, try to mail as much plat/consumables/gear/etc to your bank, or alt before hand that way you loose only XP.

Your first character is a learning experience.

But don't give up on them. Use them as just that.

Make sure you save all those siberys framents. They may seem worthless, but saving them and condensing them in the stone of change will help greatly since the combined fragments can be used to exchange feats.

Feat exchanges can be done fairly cheaply at Fred in House Jorasco up until level 10, use this to play around with the feats and find the ones you want to use, that will set the tone for your toon.

You can get a free feat swap from Hall of the Mark quest in the Marketplace.

The price of feat swaps go up as your level goes up, save the free swap until you are level 17.

I'd say the advice that can help improve the most the gaming experience of a new player is this:

Do not click on LFMs that say "bravery bonus" or "BB". Bravery bonus is a game mechanic that rewards players for running quests for the first time at higher difficulties within a narrow level bracket in which the quest can be considered challenging. While pursuing bravery bonus might seem appealing, your first toon doesn't need a bravery bonus to level up reasonably fast, and LFMs with such a tag are bound to be run by veterans that are very familiar with the quest, playing special toons that need up to five times more xp than you do to level up, and players joining their LFM are supposed to be reasonably geared and knowledgeable as well. If you need to run that quest it's probably better to simply start your own LFM and add to it the tag "guide needed".

    Win!
I have been playing for almost 3 years and still hate buying stacks of heal scrolls becasue it means 100's of clicks.
thanks. Can't believe I did not know that.

    So my hint is:
You can always learn something new in this game!
But just becasue you don't know something, does not mean you should not do stuff.

People hate noobs, but love newbs. Don't be a noob.
If you say "Hey all, first time here", no one will mind. They will explain. Or at the very least warn you when arriving at spots that are not clear cut.

Don't split stacks directly from the bank.
