Don't look at it as DnD.

It is, just as here, going to have house rules.

4e is better suited to a video game than 3.x is. 4e should have always been a video game ICD, not something to be tested on the public first. While out of order, it does make for an interesting market study.

If you are so inclined to give it a shot, give it a shot for what it is. Another MMO with the "DnD fantasy" theme.
I'm not inclined to try it because
    1. It is Cryptic, and while the developers there are trying their best, they are getting castrated by bad management.
    2. It is controlled by PW and PW policies. No thank you.
    3. Everything I have seen while looking beautiful (which it dam well better), game play looks just like Champions Online, special moves and everything. Seriously. If i was so inclined I'd just recover my lifer account over there. See #2.

    At Launch
    DDO...
paladin, ranger, fighter, cleric, bard, rogue, wizard, sorc.
    Human, Dwarf, Elf, halfling, warforged.

vs. (I think this is correct)
    NWO...
    Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Ranger, Rogue
Human, Dwarf, Elf, Half-Elf, Drow, Tiefling

Honestly, I figure that the only reason they have ranger in there right at the start is because of Drizzt.

I can simply say your lists for NWO are either incomplete or wrong, without breaking too much of the NDA.

*shrugs* I'm just going off what I could find. Given that open beta isn't even here yet I hope that the list expands for their sake, honestly.

I do NOT wish failure upon them at all. They have some darn nice devs over there that are trying.

I can say that they have yet to cut anything out... they've adjusted and added only since I started testing.

i sure hope they won't go the path of Champions Online
where you can only access custom builds if you're a suscriber...
PS: Greensteel RUINED the game! and you all know it!
    less buffing, more nerfing!!!
to make it easier for those of you that wants to avoid me in game, all my characters are in "Bladesworn Mercenaries"

so does anyone know how access to the foundry will be restricted? That the founders pack gives you access to it suggests it won't be free, but they said in earlier statements that it would in fact be completely free to all players, the specifically said they wouldn't be charging for floor tiles or other foundry components. Of course, they didn't specifically say the actual foundry itself would be, so maybe there's a one off purchase or something.

I've searched their forums and the internet and I can't find anything definitive about it. Anyone heard?

I'm certainly going to give neverwinter a go but I'm not giving them a penny till I see what it's like. So far I like what I see, but based on recent DDO content it's going to have to be reeeally good to make me do more than dip in and out of it. Also, their business model has to be right. If they're playing the rip off F2P game I won't be interested at all. I came and stayed with DDO in a large part because of the business model (which is why I got so annoyed about arti launch and VIP access, or store only bag and bank space. I felt it went against the original business model). This £200 founders pack is very pricey, but the guardian pack is affordable so if that's how they're parcelling up extra features, I guess I don't mind. I'd just like more information at this point.

From what I read, a normal f2p player gets access to the foundry once they have a lvl 15 toon. A founder gets access immediately. It's similar to LOTRO's requirement of a level 10 toon before you can create a monster player.

PW games seldom restrict content. Even their expansions are free.

You were absolutely right , especially the part about it being Champions Online. I just played a few hours of it and made that very same reference to Champions Online in my beta forum post about how the game truly sucks and putting the DnD trademark on the game is basically blasphemy. I'm so disappointed and 60$ lighter.

So it was all a mix of sigh and relief on my part after watching it. Relief in that I can stick to DDO as my primary D&D online game and sigh because there is nothing new on the horizon.
NW is based on 4th edition and 4th edition sucks bad, it could never compare to anything based on 3, 3.5 or pathfinder

So the game we all play, and most have for years, is better than the new game on the block!

    Go figure. ;-)

Then hope they don't follow their current history models. Aka nerf everything to hades and crawl your way up from tartarus upon release making it an utterly different game experience than that had during beta.

I'm not saying they will, I just very much hope they finally learned to NOT do such things.
