    Default Hot Fix Strange?

Loading screen shows the same version of the game complied Wednesday.
Makes me wonder just what was fixed?

Not playing just was checking to see if the compile date was different.

It is against the rules (even for developers and community specialists, har har) to discuss exploits.

    hahahahha

    To serve what purpose?

Let the playing population know? Does anyone really CARE what date this build was compiled on - beyond DEVs/QA?

    Rile up community more?

    Practice some trolling?

No trolling here unless it is you.
My point the hot fix doesn't seem like a Change to the Code.

What if the hotfix was not with the program?

They could hotfix the servers (replacing hamsters) either replacing parts or updating the bios of the hardware.

This was my guess. No game data was changed, it had to do with the servers not talking to each other properly.

No, they did fix an exploit.

How do we know it was an "exploit"?

Oh, yeah, silly me. It's a hotfix on a Saturday morning.

And why in the world would build date matter to anyone that is not playing?

I think he was just pointing out that the hotfix sole purpose was to fix an exploit that gave players too much advantage.

I have no information about Turbine's hotfix but I can say in general:

Hotfixes might be to the Launcher, which might not precipitate a new compile date.
Hotfixes might be to datafiles, which might not need a compile.
Hotfixes could be to server/network software, especailly if they are "resource related" which Turbine said was the problem the other day.
Hotfixes could be to restart servers, especially after changing some setting in the game which might simply be a software "switch".
And hardware fixes/tuning like someone already said...
And a buncha other stuff I forgot or don't know about.

Also, they may or may not have been actual "hotfixes" per se but that's a good solid easy word to desribe the generic emergency downtime and/or restarting of the servers, sorta like the word lag is used to describe a few different things, not all of which are really "lag" but the word is a good quick way to say "one of these types of things."

I don't want to discuss exploits I just want them to pm them to me so I can test them for them

Did they replace the hamsters with faster hamsters to reduce lag?

If it takes three hours to restart a server... something is very wrong.

The time from system startup to the first init script running, etc. just. doesn't. take. that. long. =/

No, they replaced them with fatter hamsters. That way, when you get a stumble or stutter step and they fall over, they roll and keep the wheel spinning (albeit slowly) until they're back on their four little feet.

No but they got rid of some lemmings that got mixed up with the hamsters,
they kept running off ship dragging all the ammenities into the sea.
