Default The New Monster Manual - Discuss

I personally am liking how it's looking right now, sure there's a low number of mobs specified (about 5) but it's still somewhat decent. I did notice one thing though; if you look at the right hand side, there is 1 and 2 in romanl numerals. 1 is for monsters in PvE and 2 is for PvP. It seems turbine is trying to give the players an excuse to play PvP? Just my 2 cents.

So, what do you like/dislike about the Monster Manual?

Numeral 2 is for PVE, and list's monster type by name, how many ACCount killed, and how many CHARacter killed.

I.E. My Ashuagin at this moment reads as..
    Code:
    NAME ACC CHAR
    Deep water Channeler 5 5
    Deep water Mage 4 4
    Deep water Scout 18 18
    Deep water Sergeant 3 3
    Deep water Soldier 18 18
    Kar Xyr 1 1
    Nab Ren 1 1
Besides.. seen many spiders in the lobster? Ok, Rat's then?

Kind of neat, but I figure since I'm not VIP I'll have to buy additional pages. Sigh.

Little known fact: "Human Brigands" aren't a type of human.

I just hope the additional pages are cheap.

I think It's pretty cool. Where do you see the kill rewards?

They have stated that this is only the 'prologue' and that more mobs will be added later.

This chapter is the only free chapter, premiums will be getting access to chapter 1, when it is released.
Rest will have to be bought.
The whole thing is free to VIPs.

The only mob in korthos that has not appeared are zombies, I have not run Miserys Peak to see if the Ice Flenser/Reaver (what ever it is..) shows up.

Perhaps Brigands will show up in chapter 1?

eh not gonna buy, not worth it imo. It IS nice, but not gonna waste money when nice people from the DDO wiki are probably gonna put monster stats up there

It's really cool, but it kinda sucks that the only end reward that gives a pet is the spider one....... I'd love to be able to have a pet sahaugin or a pet skeleton

Personally, I'd increase the xp rewards... 3k xp for 3000 kills? Not really worth it that much. Unless... The devs make these things scalable, so at lv 16, 3k kills gives 15k xp or at lv 25 it grants 60k... Dunno.

    The xp given is low.

I'm hopeful that's because the real rewards are intended to be the 'Read Stats', 'See HP', 'Read Lore', and 'Get Artwork'... which in turn means we won't lose a character's progress on TRing since the xp isn't the point?

    I can hope.

EDIT: I do, however, think it's awesome either way. Xp Schmeh. Even if it doesn't hold through TRs, as it doesn't seem like it will based on quotes below, it's still really cool.

I welcome this addition with open arms!

Will all boil down to the details presented in our MM.

I want to see DR and maybe even SR stats populated when we have enough kills...

From what I've seen so far, its decent enough. I can't see myself actively filling up the manual, but as I'm doing my usual questing I'll be happy when I get popups saying "You've been rewarded with such and such for killing such and such!"

    Some criticisms:
    1. As has already been said, the XP needs boosted, its rather weak.
    2. The window should be bigger. I don't have an issue reading anything, it just would be more pleasant on the eyes by being bigger. Also, with a bigger window, they can fit in the full model of the monster as opposed to just its upper body.
    3. Need more/better rewards for Mastery, that's a whole lot of effort just to view a monster's HP. In a lot of cases, such as the rat, I don't even care about how much HP it is, I'm going to kill it just the same.

I like the idea and finally seeing it in game.

And here is some useful info that I've collected today which I am sharing on my Guild's forums (as they all don't hang out here too)

They are supposed to work. If you're seeing weird behavior there please give as many details as possible. The Monster Manual XP pipes through the same method that quest XP does, so if it is out of whack somehow they'll need good details so they know where under the hood to look as it could be something else odd colliding.

A little clarification/documentaion here would be apprciated
Think of them like the classic Monster Manual books. Each one's got a bunch of monsters in them, and new books are released over time.

For those saying the XP is low...

First, it's "free" xp for VIPs and hopefully not too expensive for the rest of us.

It's additional to whatever else we're doing.

AND, there will "hopefully" be dozens if not more mob groups. If each is worth this much, leveling up a TR will be a lot easier.

Right now though, at 24 (capped) leveling up EDs, it does seem REALLY low.

But I think this is more a strategy to make TRing easier, not give us capped already TRs XP.

Though I wouldn't flame them or cry about them giving us more XP with them!

What I WOULD like is MORE PETS! I mean, I assume they'll just be multicolored versions of existing pets, so I see no reason they didn't put in a Rat one too. Unless they're new animations completely.

Which would rock. Either way, even with the bugs, I love it. Oh, and to Turbine, nice one getting us to beta test more of your stuff! At least this stuff if fun, and when broken, doesn't cause pain!

i guess i should have read up on what the monster manual was supposed to be about. i actually thought it was going to be information on monsters. i prefer that over pets. it would make things a whole lot easier for people to check the in game info on monsters than have to alt tab out and check the sometimes accurate wiki.

i also dont get why we have it in the first place. i dont really care how many skeletons ive killed and how many different types and how many on this character and how many on all my characters. i dont know all the rewards for it, just pets. i hope theres actually something useful to get out of it because i dont play with the pets i have from buying eveningstar and i dont really care to see other players pets while questing.

xp is always good, but this idea to give us another source of stacking xp lacks dealing with the problems that people have. i dont personally have those problems, but apparently enough people out there do for devs to tackle it with this creative idea.

This is something that I was really excited about. However, now that I've played around with it a bit on live, I'm leaning towards not buying it. It was something I really wanted to like, but there seems to be a major flaw in the whole design, unless something changes.

First, I wish that there was some Guild Renown attached to some (if not) all the deeds. Much like the Challenges, the Devs forgot to add Renown to it. It's bad enough that Guild decay can hit guilds so hard, but the Devs continue to do nothing to alleviate the pain. If Guild decay isn't adjusted, the next easiest thing to do would be to add more sources of guild renown. However, the Devs keep avoiding, ignoring or forgetting about guild renown. Guild renown added to new sources such as Challenges and the Monster Manual along with a Guild Renown Shrine for ships would seem to be an easy way to win over the player base in guilds (especially large guilds).

Second, the rewards are limiting so far. Companions and artwork are fluff that 99% of the players could live without. The Lore and Stats (and artwork), although are nice, will not be only available via the MMs, since someone will post them either on the forums or elsewhere on the internet. So that leaves the XP, which is the important thing here. The XP seems to be tiered exactly like the Slayers. This is a fatal flaw. The tiered slayers is fine, until you cap them...and then it's useless, just like Slayers. The tiered XP should stay (and the XP upped), but the Devs need to add 1 XP per each kill. There's few quests with more than 600 kills (if that), so an additional 600 or less XP per quest isn't going to hurt anything.

The XP per kill was what I expected to be the crown jewel of the MM. If that's not part of the MM, I really seem no real reason to pay for them. The other stuff is nice, but I'm not sure I'll be willing to pay for it. Especially if it stays at the unreasonable rate of 500 TP that it was on Lamannia when I was checking it out.

Again, my main problem is that the MM should be providing extra XP for each kill every time, not the Slayer tiered kills that cap. Again, 1 XP seems about right for each kill, while the tiered kills should have a nice extra bump in XP. But currently, I'm very very underwhelmed.

    Agree with part 1.

But even on the forums there is far more support for companions and artwork than 1%, and that's forumites that on the whole are powergamers.

The fun loving 'casual' players LOVE this stuff. Lots of us play because this was D&D, and we are Roleplayers, and the visual fantasy is just awesome to us.

Hell, IMO, the absolute best part of U14 was the artwork.

Of course, my toons are geared as much on what the items LOOK like as how good they are... so I'm biased over here.

I run with the new PDK armor and helm, a Bijio, and eChimera's fang. I look awesome.

How OP I am... well, using a level 12 shield at cap... oh well.
