Arrow University study on griefing in MMORPGs

@Moderators : Please move this if the General DDO Discussions aren't the right place for it. However, I thought that it would get the most attention there.

    Hello, everyone,

I just read about an scientificy study on griefing in MMORPGs.

I'm in no way connected to it, but since I stumbled upon the term of "griefing" several times in these forums here, I thought tht you might be interested in this scientific study.

You can participate here : http://medusa.ballarat.edu.au/limesu....php?sid=44463

Explanation about it here : http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showt...post1061147730

    Snippet from this explanation :

This research will explore the following questions; what are the causes and implications of griefing in MMORPGs, and what magnitude of griefing exists in this genre? The intention is to contribute new research and knowledge about griefing and its sociological impact.

The study will involve an online survey for participants of the ages 16 and above. This survey will cover your experiences as someone that has performed griefing, been subjected to griefing, or as a witness to the acts of griefing.

You will remain anonymous by completing this survey. The online survey will remain open until an appropriate sample size is collected.

This would have been an epic thread if the link led to a Rickroll...

A study into griefing on MMO forums.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

    LOL

But 'unfortunately' I'm too honest for that. It took me quite a lot of time to understand what a "rickroll" originally was, some years ago.

Since this isn't about DDO specifically, I've moved it to Off-Topic.

I have halfway filled it out, and I can recommend it. It sounds rather serious to me.
(I didn't complete because this survey expected me to have rather experience with playing an MMO, which I don't have.)

    I went through it all.

Most of the "griefing" they talk about really can't happen in DDO (kill stealing, mob camping, that kind of thing).

Still, interesting study to be a part of.

My real introduction into griefing I guess would have to be in FPS games, where players learned the spawn points and camped them endlessly to boost their kill counts against people who had little to no chance of defending themselves.

Later, I learned this was the preferred tactic of some, possibly many, in WoW. I actually had a real life friend tell me that taking his level 60 into a contested zone and killing all the level 25s he came across was "good" for the game, as it weeded out the "bad players". I asked him how he would feel if his son, who played tee ball, had his capacity for baseball measured by having him take an at-bat against Josh Beckett. Kinda funny that he saw one- you can guess which- as 'outrageous' while having no problem with the other one.
