Name Suddenly Offensive....

Shortly after the latest update (13) some people began asking why I was spamming &%$^&@%@! instead of having a real name. I quickly confirmed that, for some reason, since update 13, my name became offensive and was being blocked by the chat content filter. People that have the filter disabled can see my name fine, but telling people over and over that they need to disable the filter to sort it out is getting tedious. I've personally NEVER had anyone tell me my name was offensive. I'm not sure what the easiest fix for this would be, but this is my TR toon that I've bought and used lots of +2 toons on, have pulled tons of BTC/BTA goodies with (no shared bank yet) and spent alot of time getting all the necessary goodies for next life. Deleting and starting over really isn't an option. Perhaps this name can be removed from the filter list or there is some way to change my name? I would appreciate any advice on this matter. Obviously I haven't listed the name here...

We are playing a game where bastard (sword) and (spell) penetration are offensive words, but are also used as names for items. While it sucks for the OP, it doesnt surprise me anymore when words that used to not be filtered, or shouldnt be filtered, get filtered.

Well, without knowing the character name, and seeing that you seem to have your characters hidden on MyDDO - it kinda leads your reader(s) to believe there is indeed some improper portion of the character name.

You won't need to delete the character, but only solution I can suggest with the limited info here is to submit an in-game ticket and discuss it with a GM. Perhaps they will toss a rename token on your name if it needs adjustment.

The filter is more of a persistant bug.

Have it seen filter "undead" and "sentinel" which does really help discussing quests on low levels. And as it obviously only happens sometimes and not always something is seriously not working as intended.

DDO is now a multi enicity, multi cultural multi lingual program. There are very common words in some languages that in others are deeply offensive. If it filters them all then no one will be able to speak to any one.

Im english and I find the word 'fanny' to be offensive - well actualy i couldnt give a sir antony blunt about it but I could find it offensive, yet im prerty darn sure its a very common word in most of america and means something a little different in the regular context.

Like wise I could say I was just niping out to smoke a *** and all of a sudden people are thinking Im outside shooting some one for thier sexual preferences.

And this is technicaly the same language!


pics.. in english its short for pictures, in norway im informed its a very naughty word.
spunk.. rude word in english, german for liquerish.

the list goes on and on.

My opinion DDO needs to remove its language filter, or atleast default it to Off.

well at least your is just filtered. My son's alt was named for a small motorcycle, it would fit in ones pocket but ran like a rocket, evidently someone found the two descriptive terms together to be offensive! He was contacted in game and told to change the alts name.

Name changes are available in the store for much too much TP for a simple database transaction......but just enough to stop griefers from disrupting the game and constantly changing names.

Have a friend report it as inappropriate and the GM's will change your name for you. You may not be given a choice in a new name though. You can also buy a name change in the store.

Well, the name isn't important really. However, I will say that it has the letters bum in it. Frankly, my concern though is, that it SUDDENLY became offensive. I mean, I've had this toon for quite some time now. I wouldn't want to have my toon deleted or anything over a name that, supposedly, was fine until update 13. If any GM's or persons able to rectify this situation can contact me directly, it would be appreciated.

As a side note; the ONLY comments I EVER received regarding my name were either compliments or a healthy lol.

In U13 the offensive word list was expanded with words relating to unintelligence. For example, the airship amenity that gives you a +2 attack bonus is now a suppressed phrase.

That's alongside Bastard Swords, Spell Penetration, Inferno of the Damned, and many more.

I leave my chat filter on cause it makes me laugh. The actual words arent as funny as the symbols. One of my guildies has suffered from the same problem as the OP for a long time, he thinks it is as funny as I do. I used to carry around a bastardsword with spell pen on it just so I could link it and laugh.
