My Greensteel crafting list for Asuriyan, and the order in which I built it:

    1. Bracers - 300SP Concordant Opposition
    - Absolute priority for me to cram as much SP onto my build where I can
    2. Mineral 2 Khopesh
    3. Mineral 2 Khopesh
    - Great DPS decent all round weapons that break a variety of DR.
    4. Cloak - +45HP Mineral 2
    - I fight, alot. More HP = More survival.
    5. Goggles - Neg/Neg/Pos - Imm. to Blind/Disease/Posion/Fear and Superior Healing Lore
    - Love the immunities, and these spruce up my Cure/Aura crit chances to 18%. Awesome.

It taking a while to get through the 40 shrouds needed to cleanse two accessories and wear a third, but almost there and just the Goggles to finish off.

Just a note seeing this replay. Avoid crafting GS on cloak. Envenomed is just great and would be a pity not to get.
Bracers, Goggles and even Gloves usually have much less options and therefore it is a better idea to craft those.

But Wis-dumped melee Clerics are great, too. If you have effective arcane CC in the party for trash, I submit that a melee Cleric is MORE useful to the party than a caster Cleric, as between DP and melee, they will be doing more DPS in those boss fights.

    Yep,

You are doing it. I was not specific in how. I guess i dont think dumping wisdom is good, but my play style, and signature has nothing to do with that. You mention casting the DP spell and melee. There you go. And I bet you would heal someone to keep them alive verse swinging that sword too in most cases Of course you and I would let the zerging melee dieing toon stay dead if it was a spell point drain to benefit the party success.

As for my signature; how you go about it is up to you. Ie. ?? is there a need for offensive cast or crowd control...no; then is there anyone about to die... no; then it's melee time!!!

That said, Clerics can reach DCs that work just fine in Epic content.

I'm currently playing a melee-focused Cleric, and having a lot of fun with it. It works well in parties, healing is more than enough, and does decent melee DPS, too.

But I TRed to that FROM a max-Wis caster Cleric. The caster version was more powerful. The insta-kill and CC potential of a max-Wis Cleric does much better on, say, solo Epic farming, than a max-Str build.

And there is always Divine Punishment and Blade Barrier, too.

Melee and caster Clerics are both viable. Or a hybrid. Play what you enjoy.

"The caster version was more powerful."

Your right that melee builds are more fun, and work well if you don't forget to take care of your brothers. Melee Clerics are probably better builds as a TR and with the right gear.

And as long as you are having fun, and I have to say living up to the responsibilities and reasonable expectations of the group more power to ya.

I have not even TR yet on any toons. I am just a casual player so what do I know.

I think you can build a Cleric with high start WIS16-18, and still take 2 levels of FTR or MNK, and maybe a 3rd lvl of ROG even. And still melee well without sacrificing your enemies saving on your BBs. Especially for 28-32pt builds. As for TRs you can have a high DC, and put the extra pts to melee.

Not how to write an intelligible .sig file, that's for sure.

Also not how to be condescending and arrogant to people who don't conform to your One True Way.

Maybe I can explain it better for you, so you are not insulting and don't get banned from the forums.

I think others (non healers, non clerics) get annoyed at us when they die too much. Now there are some players who think there should never be deaths in the party during a quest. Some bards and Fav Souls who think Clerics should be healing more than whatever expectations they have. I get caught meleeing to much too. With "Battlecleric" said to me or thought of me in a derogatory tone once in a while. And sometimes they complain when there has only been like one death half way through the quest. They want that xp bonus. Well maybe they are right, but not at the expense of too much of my fun. After waiting an average of 20 minutes for a healer to join most are happy you just showed up as long as they don't come close to party wiping. Now if there are 2 healers then you can work out a plan too.

My signature is more about the expectations in the game of those "others" instead of how you build your toon.

I don't know. Do you not like the term poorly played... i can just take it out.

    My disagreement was with this:

I see you got rid of that "poorly played" part from your signature. I see plenty of Clerics (and currently am one) that do not Offensive Cast/Crowd Control, basically at all, let alone #1, and felt that writing all of us off as "poorly played" wasn't accurate.

If we both agree that a variety of builds and play-styles for Clerics can be effective, then there's no further disagreement.

As for my comments about my melee vs. caster Clerics, they don't actually contradict. I feel my caster was more powerful SOLO AND WHERE CC NEEDED, while my melee is more useful IN A GROUP THAT HAS GOOD CC ALREADY.

I have conc op SP goggles
    Blindness/disease immunity, 50 SP, 100 SP - +6 wis, haggle ect...

I also have a Smoke II HP cloak
    10HP, 15HP, 20HP - 2 displacement clickines and blur

There may be better options out there are more and more gear shifts slots on you, but HP and SP are the goals.

One point to make - There are many RIGHT ways to play a cleric, but there are just as many WRONG ways as well.

The order of precedence depends on the following
    • Player Skill (Not just the clerics)
    • Build
    • Difficulty of the Quest

A good Cleric knows when to Offensively Cast, Melee and Heal. Its the Knowing that makes them GOOD.

Now a Note on Con-Op. In order for Con-Op (and Torc for that matter) to be effective you need to be HIT. If your not getting hit, then it will not proc. Also keep in mind that Con-Op procs either Temporary Hit Points or Spell Points. Many get disappointed with Con-Ops Proc rate since they are looking only at the Spell Point Regeneration.

If you go with a HP Con-Op look to place it someplace that you won't be switching it out. Nothing is more Ego deflating then switching out 45 HP to get a hit from your Korthos SP necklace so you can cast a Heal, only to find yourself Incap in the process.

If you go with a SP Con-Op or Charisma Skill Con-Op Keep track of the SP it adds that way you know when it is most effiecent to switch it out for another item. Many use the extra 150 SP for buffing purposes and then remove the item until next shrine.

Also consider making a GS Weapon, Such as a Lightning strike or Disintegrate, these types of weapons help boost personal DPS making you stronger. Some of these items like a Triple Air (Haste 1.5 min) or Triple Earth (Dense Earth Ele) come with beneficial clickies that only need to be taken to Tier 2 to get. Weapons do not need a Cleansing item to be able to use multiples.

I've done this a couple of times, except usually it's fatal. Just after I raise in a tavern, I do an item swap which removes my con item, and at 1 just-raised-hp, I just keel over dead immediately.

Then I feel like smacking myself in the face with a hammer to bash out the stupid.

Depends if you do Epic alot, and whats on your Dragontouched Armour/Outfit. With Resists +5 being the most popular choice in the Eldritch slot, Envenomed gives +1 Con over wearing say Vorne's Occult Slayer Belt.

The most useful thing about Envenomed is the Green Slot...

Just keep in mind that people play this game very differently in different situations...when you speak in absolutes about playstyle its meaningless to anybody that has been playing for awhile.

For instance I have a cleric for whom which cc=him gaining all agro and focusing the damage on himself so that I can accurately manage protect refreshes (I use them as proactive heals) and get the guards firing off to sustain my bars/whittle down/destroy mobs while I swing my weapon and everything is right at the center point in which I can most effectively heal my companions who have no choice but to be near me if they wish to contribute. I have another that would approach the same fight in a completely different manner with spells and diplomacy to keep things grouped up and I have one that would do both things at once (without the diplo of course). All heal whoever needs it when they need it. Not nesecarily when they want it.

I am under no illusions that I am uber top dps on my divines, nor can I achieve such a thing on them reliably. What I CAN do is maximize my potential and thats what I do, there is no reason for a divine to ever be idle and me fighting takes nothing away from healing, healing is just a given, I do that alongside whatever else I do.

Divines dont like to be told what to do, they have a diverse toolset and often people want to pidgeonhole them because they dont understand the capabilities of a divine.

And I wouldnt let a zerger stay dead because they are either A not an actual zerger, hence the death, B had a bad roll, it happens, or C feel kind of bad that I left a few mobs alive that killed a slow party member.

My best piece of advice is think hard about what your end game equipment will look like - I'm remaking my HP Conc Opp from cloak to gloves on my caster cleric to accommodate the Napkin, for example, even though there's a couple of nice raid items in that slot (Gloves of the Glacier, Gauntlets of Eternity). On the face of it cloak looked good, but with more progress to end game gear it's become less appealing.

I'm going SP heavy fort bracers and 45 HP Conc Opp boots on my melee hybrid FvS, since the only place the boots have to come off is TOD and I'm performing a healing role in there that doesn't need the extra HP. Goggles and gloves will eventually be Epic Raven's sight for the exceptional Wisdom and to hit.

    .

I'm in the process... don't have anything wearable yet. Here's my plan...
Splitting up the HP into 2 items seemed to give me more flexibility in getting effects that I wanted.

    Bracers
    +10 HP +1 con skill
    +15 HP +2 str skill
    +6 wisdom, +10 haggle/ + 10 diplo
    ConOp
    Major Healing Lore

    Goggles
    Blindness/Diseas Ward
    Poison and Fear Ward
    Slay Living Guard
    +20 HP

    Weapon

I'll work on the bracers first then Goggles and Weapons concurrently. If possible, finish the weapon first (or if not 20 shroud completions). If only large devil shards are holding me up on the goggles and I have a cleansed item, finish those up instead.

Can anyone point to a translation of these terms? To be specific, how are new players, or clueless players, supposed to know what ConOpp is and how to achieve it by using the Shroud loot planners? I searched DDOWiki and do not find a list that shows how to go from GS Blank to these various effect names.

I assume you are looking at this:

    http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~delalle...roud/index.php

If you mouse over the effect it shows you what it does.

Here's a simple example or two - HP conc opp goggles:

    http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~delalle..._20_hp&altar=3

Air guard charisma skill SP goggles (not everyone will put Wizardry on but I tend to so it's covered as and when I get the Torc, particularly if I don't want to use an Amrath belt with those aspects)

    http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~delalle..._1_cha&altar=3

Hopefully that makes it clearer. I find that Shroud planner by far the easiest to use. Have a tinker around with it and see what effects you can get.
