Default Full computerized minds in human bodys (I.e. Human Machines)

Me and My girlfriend are having an argument about THIS:
    http://gizmodo.com/5813821/scientist...sion-for-brain

What are your thoughts about a fully computerized person. I was thinking that if this technology gets big enough, we could see people linking themselves to something much greater then the internet. A web of human thoughts giving away only the information that the person wants (I.e. How they fixed their busted sink.) We could see people in full Bio-machine bodies (I.e. Ghost in the Shell (Anime))

Think of running faster then 80 Miles per Hour to get to work using nothing but your metal bones and advanced muscle structure.

What are your thoughts on this.

Only took 'em 16 years to make Johnny Mnemonic, eh?

Where's the teleportation machines Star Trek promised back in the 60's?

    The downside.

You could program people to be "operatives" like so many hollywood movies. The most effective operative (besides the one that suceeds) is the one that doesn't even know they are one.

You could have a sudden "virus" that turns all people to zombies.

Learn everything, and what then is the point of individuality vs a hive mind? You just become programed with what you "need" to know. The value of "learning' how to think becomes lost.

    The good?

Cluster thinking, to enable everyone to help solve issues.

Global warning of disasters at a much faster pace.

In the end... all it takes are a few bad apples.

On a side note, do you remember there hand held comunicators? I think real life blew by science fiction in that dept.

If we had spent half the time on teleporters as we did blackberries we would be teleporting with our minds by now :P

And quantum physics is much more difficult than bio chemical electrical pathways with definitive current/voltage waveform characteristics.

According to current theories they are actually possible but would completely destroy the molecular structure of whatever you were teleporting, and would need power levels and computational speeds far beyond anything that is close to being available currently.

If you can equate teleportation with downloading yourself to a receiving body, doing what you need to do in the new place then uploading back to your original body then this technology arc could be for you....that's what they're doing in Star Trek, anyway, they're just using fancy replicator technology to rebuild a copy of you at the destination after destroying the original then the copy is destroyed upon return...and you're now a 2nd copy.

So...maybe 50 years you can download skill torrents that can be uploaded to your wetware computer.

    "I know Kung Fu" indeed.

For knowledge this might wind-up sucking, though, as we find new things not only from learning old things but putting the old things together in news ways.

Since it would probably work differently than the “Internet” I would suggest the name “the Intersect”.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

I remember reading something some years back...

Some college (or something) had set up a teleportation system of sorts that worked by turning the matter into an electrical signal and beaming it across the room to be reformed. Back then, they'd only managed to do it with a proton? Possibly it was even smaller than that. But they said it took so much memory to hold that information... because they had to get every type of motion stored electrically.

Pretty sure they said it'd take more memory then was available on the entire planet to do an actual living cell. And full multi-cell organisms (aka: humans) were not going to happen with the method they were using.

It's scary enough getting a virus on my computer. I really don't want a computer virus in my head.

Yeah, that show should have had ended like a season back. I enjoyed it, but not lately.

Considering how malleable our perception of reality is due to the configuration of our biology this kind of approach does have some truly frightening possibilities...and even if you did slowly replace all your thinking parts would you really be thinking the same way without simulating affective-related neurotransmitter activity? Without that they'd be no emotion.

There are things that a person can know about another person, things that a machine can never pick up.
Technology is something that a person should not always rely on.
If our knowledge comes from technology, when it corrupts... we will not survive.
