    Default Build critique

    Hello. I am planning on TRing my ranger into a fighter soonish and I would just LOVE some ciritque on the build. Around lvl14 I got stuck not knowing which feats to take Thank you in advance for taking time to love over the build and leave constructive critisism

    * Change alignment to Chaotic Neutral or True Neutral (I honestly prefer Chaotic for tanking epic Hezrou and Lailat).

    - There are many monsters in the game that deal EVIL damage to good aligned characters (2-12 per shot). Choosing a neutral nature makes you immune to those kinds of attacks. There is no downside beyond not being able to use Pure Good weapons at low level, which honestly I never do. Pure Good is completely worthless at endgame.

    - There are several extremely good end-game items that give you a negative level if you try to wear them with a good alignment. Neutral negates this effect.

    - True Neutral cuts the damage of alignment spells: Chaos Hammer (Hezrou + some Tiefling casters) and Order's Wrath (IQ and DD casters + some Marut), in half and negates their stun/daze effect. It also allows you to use items of Stability, which are semi-useful at low and mid-levels.

    - Chaotic Neutral gives immunity to Chaos Hammer, raid boss Queen Lailat's Pure Chaos damage on her swords (1d6 x 6 swords per attack), and allows you to use items of True Chaos, which are semi-useful at low and mid-levels.

    * If you're TRing for a planned long-term life, you can easily collect a full set of +2 tomes and factor those into your ability plan. Try and make all your ability scores even, and count on eating all +2 tomes at level 7, which is what I am doing. Later, when you get Litany of the Dead, you can plan on TRing again to include those stat bonuses and fit in your enhancements and equipment as you see fit. Always, always end with an even ability score if you can help it.

    * Skills:

    - Balance = MAX (Extremely useful for getting up quickly after Overrun effects and Air Elemental knockdown)
    - Tumble = 1 rank (Allows you to use Tumble, which can help you escape certain rare slowdown situations)
    - Jump = 10 ranks (I always put 10 ranks into this to be safe. It's hard to calculate what Strength I'll end up with and Jump effect maxes out at 40. Spell gives you +30 ranks and even without that, it's still useful at low levels).
    - Spot = 5 ranks (Useful for spotting and attacking hidden monsters before they can get you. 5 ranks and wearing Tharne's Goggles later on gives you at least 20, which is enough for most quests. Hidden monsters aren't very common. Even without, it's useful to have ranks at low levels to spot wights, kobolds, and hobgoblins).
    - Intimidate = EXTRA (Fit what you can in here. You're going to be a tank later and you want to draw as much attention away from the weaker classes to you as you can. Even if it fails the check, you still gain some aggro with the new U9 changes. Also useful for Intimidating NPC's in some quests.
    - Haggle = LAST (Any leftovers go here. You can make some more cash selling things, which is always helpful.)

    * Enhancements:

    - Orcish Strength is trash. You'll never be able to sustain it, because it requires you to stay at low HP levels where you can easily get 1-shot by a lucky disintegrate. So it's effectively wasted AP's on a prerequisite you can't use. Put prerequisite AP's into the Orcish Extra Action Boost enhancement line. You'll get more Haste Boosts out of it.

    - Orcish Brute Fighting is also pretty much trash. You can easily hold all aggro in the game with your massive DPS, incite gear, and Intimidate, so it's not needed. You're wasting an AP on it. Better spent elsewhere, even on an extra skill point.

    * Feats:

    - Dump Dodge, Power Critical, and Two-Weapon Defense. AC is for newbies, gimmick tanks, and people who don't understand how combat works in this game. Physical damage is mitigated in THIS game primarily by Damage Reduction, Hit Points, and Movement Speed in that order.

    Damage Reduction is absolute protection from the indicated number of damage points per hit and shields amplify that effect even further when blocking with the block key. Even a single point of damage reduction adds up over the course of 20 enemy hits and extends your life by the few seconds it takes a healer class to heal you.

    Hit points keep you alive against everything, including disintegrate effects that bypass AC and kill off such tanks.

    You can directly control the movement of your character and can dodge most ray-based attacks, as well as physical swings with practice and Haste buff active.

    Replace all the above feats with Toughness, which raises HP and indirectly protects you as well as allows you to function as the main tank.

    The rest looks pretty solid, without diving too much into it.

    Thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to say that Orcish Strength increases your strength score. You were thinking of Orcish fury. Plus all the feats you told me to drop for toughness were all fighter bonus feats. Toughness is not a fighter bonus feat sadly.

    Yeah, sorry about that. I'm poor with names so I tend to get the enhancements mixed up.

    Easily fixed. Just set the fighter bonus feats to take the requirements for TWF, Khopesh damage, etc. Set all the general feats you can fit to take Toughness. Just requires some careful planning. I ended up with 6 Toughness feats on my Fighter 18 / Rogue 2, which translates into 120+ HP at level 20.

    Thanks, I'll work on that now.
