Melf's Acid Arrow

I changed my air savant to earth/acid over the weekend just to test it out, but I'm kinda disappointed in Melf's. It's ticking for 60-65 but reports from others have it at 80-90. Is mine low, or is theirs too high?

I can't recall exact numbers but I think it usually crits around 200+ for me. Normal ticks around 100. Try earth grab + melf + blast combo. Earth grab and melf usually finishes a said monster. Many items even epic ones. If not, put acid rain on and even nasty ones are done. I get over 1k ticks with acid rain without any clickies on grabbed monsters. Earth grab every 30sec is the king of SLAs.

On a side note, I really like thread subject.

EDIT: I use earth savant TOD set(+2 to max caster level) and +75% clickies on regular monsters. I sometimes play around weakness but with earth grab, everything dies so fast it's not that much needed. Oh and btw I don't carry FtS. It's inferior to earth grab.

So that must be with a curse going right? Even with the curse and eardweller going I can't get it that high. Gaahhh, its driving me nuts! What am I missing?

Earthgrab from earth elemental pets counts as a hold, I would assume the earth savant ability works the same way.

It's +50% more damage. It's not auto-crit anymore with hold or fts. Or with earth grab. So even if you do mass hold monster, no one is getting autocrits.

It works for spell damage too now. I often do hypnotism(to lower saves) -> mass hold monster -> acid rain & acid blast combo. :P

Huh, its weird I never noticed the effects with the earthgrab picks. Thats quite a nice little damage enhancer then.

Metamagics apply to the spell abilities you get for savants... just in case you're not using um.

Hmm. At least you havent told that you have earth savants tod set. It adds +2 to max caster level. That's a bit more. Major acid lore for higher crits of course. Maximize, empower, capstone.. Full acid line. I think that should be all. I woke up like 2mins ago so this post might be full of typos.

No, this was considered far too OP on Lammania.

If you do not have both bits of the ToD set, that will defiantly be less damage.

Are you maxing out the Acid damage line enhancements? Crit? Multiplier?

Do you have level 20? Capstone? Superior Corrosion? Major Acid Lore?


I play Air Savant atm, but if Eladars and Niacs can have multiple stacks, acid spells should work the same way.

Melf's does not stack from the same caster.

For normal ticks on mobs which do not have a specific vulnerability, helplessness or curse:

16 * (1 + 1 + 0.5) * (1 + 1 +0.5 + 0.2) = 108 avg. (87 - 128)

This is assuming Earth Savant III, Eardweller, 50% in enhancements, max+emp and BoP.

(when I tested Earth Savant, it was only adding an extra +1 to the caster level related damage
as the calculation is +1 per two caster levels. Three extra levels only nets you +1 from this)
