    Default Unbuffed tank AC?

What is a target AC to hit to be an effective tank. I know there are tons of "buffs" or other temporary effects but what should my unbuffed ac be after equipment, feats and enhancements. Right now at level 16 Pally I have 42 with sword and board. Currently I am KotC however I have all the feats I need to go Defender once the rest of my gear will saport being the tank. How close am I?

For Normal and Hard VoD, 65 is more then enough. 70 gets you though elite. this is full party buffed.
ToD wise, 65 enough for suul Norm, 70 is prolly better for hard.

I find most ppl on khyber to scared to try and try a AC tank from a pug for horoth, so i dont know his stats.

A typical unbuffed AC for a tank is around the 55-60 range. HOWEVER this isn't always the case.

My Paladin can reach an 82 AC with his current gear, but he currently sits around a 46 AC (No Ship buffs, no stances.) Ship buffs and stances alone pop me up to 60... Then I can start tallying all of the other buffs.

Ok sweet sounds like I am on the right track as there are still several items that will help me out I just need to farm them. I did get my dt armor last night with heavy fort (this is actually the one I wanted as I dont have Necro 4 yet,) healing amp 20% (my secong choice for that slot,) and destruction. I plan to add a few more armor bunus' to the dt to replace the healing amp and destruction, leviks shield and a better natural armor item (currently using Ring of ballance which I need for the ballance.) I should have no problem getting him to close to 50 if not more with gear so I guess I am good to go.

    Thanks.

Are these unbuffed ac #'s ? or do you think that these #'s are good enough with buffs ?

My fighter at level 12 sits at 46 without ship buffs or stances and that's with protection of only +4, natural armor of only +2, and a dodge bonus of just +1. Plenty of room to improve on that with some gear upgrades.

You need 73 for normal 78 for hard 83 for elite iirc. Might be 70 75 80.

Unbuffed is a relative term. Deflection is a bonus that many have on gear, but is also obtainable from your friendly divine. Natural Armor is the same way, some may have it on gear, some may rely on pots or rangers.

For 'end game' tanking, many consider Tower of Despair an important place where AC can be a viable tactic; http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=298515 has some good numbers on that topic.

well I fail at reading it all i apologize , but those #'s are not high enough imho , yes they are decent but for the most part your still going to get hit more then half the time imho.. I'll have to look at what the #'s are there is a post somewhere that showed the bosses to hit on normal/hard/elite but I don't remember where it was at

As said above (by theboatman), some bonuses can be from gear OR a spell. It may have a timer ticking or it may be permanent with gear you have on. It depends.

I'm really curious to see a 75 unbuffed... I'm sure it's possible, but what's the breakdown?

Or alternatively, 18 Pal 2 Mnk (my build, currently)

    10 base
    10 dex
    8 wis
4 natrual armor (slotted to some epic)
5 deflection from hp gs googles
    5 ce
    4 stance
    4 insight
    3 dodge
    4 dodge
    2 dodge (epic mabar cloak)
    8 armor (scorched bracers)
    5 aura (or was it 6? I don't remember)
    2 set bonus
    1 alch. dodge
3 profane (helm of frost, charged, boots, w/e slot is open)
    =
    78 ac while TWFing.
Can possibly take it higher to 79 and 80, with the right gear setup - this is just off the top of my head.

On my ranger that I use as a tank, I have 63 unbuffed (but in the right gear) but self-buff to 78. Unbuffed isn't quite as important as making sure that, fully buffed, you have enough AC...of course, the higher the unbuffed, the more likely the buffed will be high enough.

That is really close to my paladins break down as well. Difference is Dex mod, stalwart def III PRE and insight (only +3 from leviks set) That is a difference of 8....but paladin aura give him 6. So I am sitting at a 78 (but can recitation scrolls), but he also gets 20% damage reduction from Leviks Defender vs the Swashbuckler.
