care to elaborate on the "lvl 5 dots on end boss" thing? don't get it. I am running hard on my caster as thats what i can open and been having a tough time finding a group to complete on hard

To elaborate further, there are two new level 5 damage-over-time (DoT) spells for arcanes, Niac's Biting Cold and Eladar's Electric Surge. Both tick every 2 seconds for 16 seconds with no save and no spell resistance. These spells can be stacked up to 3 times for increasing damage. I haven't personally tested Electric Surge, but Niac's Biting Cold when stacked does fantastic damage - heck, it does great damage even when not fully stacked. A water or air savant stacking the DoTs, in conjunction with the elemental curse ability and a Superior 5 clickir can seriously put the hurt on a boss or high hit point mob.

A fellow water savant and I 2-manned DD on normal to do some upgrading and with both of us dropping Niac's, Polar Rays, Frost Lance SLAs and and Ice Storm or two, the end boss was toast in fairly short order. I don't think I even got to the 3rd stack of Niac's before he was done in. Neither of us bothered to whack him with a holy weapon to stop his regen, and neither of us took much damage at all. I don't really think it would be a problem for a single caster to solo him on hard or elite with just the DoTs and some occassional nukes. Bring a hireling along for emergency heals if solo.

But as far as farming for the Eardweller goes, no need to even see the end boss. Just clear the trash to get the Light Gravity buff, grab the 3 keys, hit the optional room and firewall/ice storm the chest. If no Eardweller, recall out, reset and try again. I got mine after only 5 runs on hard and a couple of guildies had similar success rates, the longest drought being 10 or 12 runs. I think the DD optional chest on hard, or even elite, is a much more reliable and faster way to farm for the slug than Titan on hard or elite - I must've run Titan over 50 times on elite and got skunked every time.

In another topic, it has been stated that is is 1.5% on normal and hard, and two checks of 1.5% on elite. Also I think the screenies the guy posted was from jeets dream.

good suggestion! don't know what i was thinking taking all that chance with fire wall and clouds now getting a reflex save on first tick of damage. meteorstorm dropped on icestorm for the win

Sounds correct. Failed today on a 54, succeeded on a 57.

On elite i needed 5 runs to get it.
Pro TIP: You can knock the 3 doors without needing to get the keys (i didnt know when i tried to get it)

I believe you need to roll a 54 or 55 (Which is a 20 roll on a 20 wizard without transmutation focus) but at some strange cases that doesn't work either. I don't think it can be knocked on elite unless you have greater transmutation focus feats with AM and a 20 roll... which is considerably difficult

Got mine on my 20th run on Elite, a very good advice for wizards wanting to solo farming it is to be a palemaster, gather up lots of mobs and wail. Reavers tend to save a lot more than the others, so Energy Draining them is a good advice.

Good luck on your eardweller farming, it's totally worth it. Even if you TR into a healer, since it also boosts healing.

Drop rate is 1.5% on Hard and 3% on Elite. I highly suggest running it on elite as you double your odds.

I've been pretty lucky helping people get theirs, 14 Elite runs is the worst luck I've had, most were under ten and 50% of those dropped in the first 3 runs.

I should learn where those optional doors are... can someone help me?

14 runs on elite with my FvS.
I used the level 20 Sorc Hireling bought from IQ1, awesome hireling.
Hireling will drain level constantly so you can use finger of death or destruction, also has Greater Heroism/Haste and will Banshee wail as well.

Best hireling ever. I was completing a chest run every 12 minutes.
I was also using the Jump buff from house P ( +40 jump skill )

I just went in to try and get one for two characters- dropped in less than 9 runs for each toon.

I hate you. I have run it around 40 times between all my toons and I have yet to even see one...

been doing 2-3 runs a night on elite for the last week. got mine yesterday, approximately 15-20 runs total.

The DC on the three doors is different; 54, 55 and 56. I ended up grabbing the silver key for most runs
as that opened the DC 56 door.

another good quest for eardweller is the optional in dreaming dark. I pulled many an eardweller form there. Of course on elite and by the way got mine first run and see it on average of every third run in there as well just pay attention or you may miss it.
