Default Dungeons and Dragons the Movie

Saw it was on, so I watched about 15 minutes.

    The Rogue died.....

Switched it cuz a real show was starting.

I guess I have probably wasted my time on even less important things in my time, but it was still pretty pathetic

It was unwatchable and corny. Anyone remember Dragonslayer from the 80's? That was at least entertaining, not sure how it aged though.

    Default Dragonslayer?

Holy cow - That was awesome when I was 11 years old. I'm sure it wasn't really corny and lame... seriously...

It's still awesome, just like TRON.

    Hmm...

I was really expecting more of a 'Reign of Fire' Dragon than the ones that showed up in the D&D movies, but I had to watch because honestly, there just aren't all that many films with a dracolich.

I actually thought the 2nd movie was better - at least they tried to make something a little more serious.

1st however is a bad joke.

Take it easy there, killer. Just asking if anyone remembered it, not stating it was Academy Award material.

the two D&D movies and the horrendous adaptation of the Dragonlance Chronicles are just BAD.

the only good parts in the first one is when the rogue (something wayans) gets smushed, and in second one when the ice dragon blasts and shatters the cleric.

I feel a better DND movie to watch would be "The gamers 2: dorkness rising" its actually really funny, not too cheesy, the story isnt bad and its just a lot of fun to watch. Its more like watching a really fun dnd game play out, but...all the "action" is presented with people dressed up in armor in proper locations though it is occasionally interrupted by reality (as are real games)...just watch it and let is speak for itself. You will find yourself quoting it

I agree with Geodude. Dorkness Rising was one of the best D&D style movies I have seen. Loved every minute of it.

I saw it fairly recently. It's held up pretty well.

Although its funny that Peter MacNicol was cast as the heroic lead. He is pretty much a nerdy suit in everything now.

That film caused me to wield Halberds exclusively for a while in PnP because I wanted to have that awesome weapon he was swinging.

Imho the second part was actually better than the first. At least it was more like D&D than the first.

    Gotta agree here.

'The spatula of purity shall scramble the eggs of your malevolence!'

Also did a great job of showing that min-maxing really doesn't matter so much as long as the dragon gets slain, the princess gets saved, and everyone had fun doing it. No matter how corny the journey was!

I kind of remember reading something about that first movie, apparently they had let like 10 years go by without producing it and by the end of the contract had to do whatever they could with an old script that probably had been edited too many times.
I don't know what on krynn happened to the dragonlance movie but i bet the low successs of these two dnd movies harmed the chances at finding a good studio.

But at least weis and hickman can hope for a new version since it was the first try, whereas other fantasy writers have had much worse.
Like ursula k. le guin have had bad luck on repeated attempts, every new earthsea movie you would think it can't possibly go worse than the previous.
This is why Terry Pratched made sure to be in control of his work and his discworld movies are all very good for the size of the production.
