So Atari has a digital download game coming next year to the consoles and PC. Here is the article at Kotaku.com and they have a short promo video of the game.

Nice. Looks like DDO might have some competition in the D&D realm.

Looks like a cashdrain.
You'll probably have to buy every adventure from the store.
It also depends on character customization and battle system so I wouldn't cheer just yet. It does look interesting.
(Seems it's based on 4e)
Looks like a lot of fun. I will definitely buy and try it with a few friends.

"Travel to the Forgotten Realms, where the adventure begins in the Dalelands, nestled in the remote Desertsmouth Mountains. From the sulfuric catacombs of the mines of Tethyamar, to the dizzying heights of the Tower of the Void, Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale combines the depth of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition with intuitive, action packed combat that will satisfy the most seasoned of adventurers."

TBH, I don't have high hopes for this...
According to everything I've see about the game it is a Neverwinter nights style multiplayer. So its not an MMORPG. Just an Online RPG with a max of 4 players in a group. So won't be competing with Turbine in the MMO market.
That said if its like the Neverwinters and allows players to create their own adventures and modules I can't wait to see it. One of the best things about Neverwinter was the ability for PnP DM's to transfer their campaigns to an interactive 3d realm. Most of the best adventures and stories were player created and it was extremely fun to play with friends. Hope they go this route.
It is in the Forgotten Realms setting. I am beyond sick of that setting.
It has never been one of my favorites and I personally will not be buying or playing any more games done in this setting.
The only redeeming feature of the Neverwinter nights games is the ability to create your own Modules.
Also the fact that it is going to be an Xbox Live Arcade/PSN game is enough for me to never even consider it for a RPG I want to play. The fact that it will be dumbed down to be playable on Xbox and Playstation is just another nail in the coffin for me.
Meh its forgotten realms and looks like gauntlet or that new game the AoC people have wont tempt me for a nano second
Beware the Sleepeater

Not to interested.....

Isn't "the depth of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition" an oxymoron?
The demo looked liked a bit like the retro laserdisc game Dragon's Lair http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon's_Lair type of affair, possibly one quite low on player interaction.
It might suit the D&D4e market though, with that style of play.

4th Edition currently has 33 base classes, 522 paragon paths (the equivalent of prestige classes), and 101 epic destinies (also similar to prestige classes,) 38 races, 3,031 feats, 7,476 powers, and 8,837 magic items. It features 2 different methods of multiclassing and allows players to create a character to fit LITERALLY any concept that any previous edition could.
The fact that you personally don't like it doesn't make it any less complex and deep.
You don't measure quality by quantity though, do you?
The garbage-strewn mass of rule segments (intended to fit on cards) in the core D&D4 books meant for more spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and therefore more confusion for players despite a stated intent to homogenise, lobotomise and sterilise D&D into some kind of amorphous mess.
You might treasure every excessive, compulsive, expensive book that this system is intended to sell to its intended audience, which seems to include you, but don't expect this enthusiasm to spread much further.
If people seriously want to play a card-based, simulated role-playing game they can play SJG's Munchkin instead.
If Conan novels were written from a D&D4 point of view Conan would be pondering in which order he should spam "hack", "slash" or "pillage" repeatedly - with occasional flexing once a scene ...

Surely you jest.
In 3.5, a melee has exactly one move: basic attack.
In 4th, a first-level character of any class has a minimum of 4 separate and completely distinct options.
And don't pretend 4th has any faults that weren't present in previous editions. 3.5 had plenty of spelling errors, grammatical errors, and sold just as many books for just as much.
The simple fact is that 4th doesn't appeal to you and you therefore believe it is objectively inferior, which is simply not the case, as "better" and "worse" are inherently subjective.
But hey, if you have to pretend 4e players are all idiots so you can feel smug, then go ahead. I'll be over here, having fun playing a game.
I tend to agree.
From the forums and the about page:
Could be a diversion if I wanted to group with just a few friends but the combat looks too stilted in comparison to DDO, and Diablo III would appeal more I think.Daggerdale’s highly detailed, content-rich game environment owes its core design to Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition, making for a fully immersive console-based RPG
Reasons that will make me not buy/play it:
- The game looks like it's 5 years old (not always important, but c'mon... with all the technology that exists nowadays!?..);
- Atari;
- Console based;
- 4th ed.
Not necessarily in that order!..
The 3.5e/4e discussion is probably one of the most enthusiastic ones I have ever seen and despite the fact that I believe 4e is bad due to have sold it's soul for cash, I understand not everyone cares about that and in the end, fun is what matters!
4e is still rubbish though...

personally it could be the best game in the world but atari would ruin it for me. the worst publisher in the world. you know there is ea that uses ridiculus copy-protection to restrict the legal buyer (no, not the pirat, just the one that actually spends money on it) and puts out only sequels with lil to no differences to its predecessor.
i would not buy from both again. but if i'd be forced somehow i would rather buy ea than atari. atari has no support, no marketing (bad for an mmo, ask turbine) and is actually the worst publisher you can get for the pc market imo...
