Important Notice: Archmage Secondary Spell Mastery: Illusion is bugged.

I have just reset the enhancements on my level 19 wizard and was taking the Archmage Illusion route when I encountered the following bug for Spell Like Abilities.

Illusion II: Blur
Requires one of:
Archmage Spell Mastery I: Illusion
Archmage Secondary Spell Mastery I: Illusion

From the above description, I had the impression that either one will work so I picked Archmage Secondary first and got the enhancement Illusion II: Blur.

Whilst working my way up to Illusion IV: Phantasmal Killer, one of the requirements are Archmage Spell Mastery I: Illusion which I have not picked up yet. So I went to find it only to realise that I cannot get the enhancement anymore even though I have all the requirements met. The enhancement is greyed out and cannot be selected.

I contacted the GM and who confirmed my suspicion that selecting Archmage Secondary Spell Mastery I: Illusion prevented me from getting the Archmage Spell Mastery I: Illusion. I told him that the text description of the requirements are misleading since there was no indication that selecting one will disable the other and he agreed it was strange as well. He told me to do a Feedback thread on the forum so I will do one after this.

I posted here so that others who are respeccing into Archmages will avoid this silly bug. 2 more days for me to reset again...

Other than it being intuitive, that you cannot select the same school as primary AND secondary... there are plenty of other enhancement cases where choices lock other options out. Class stat increases and class skill increases before U7, fit into that category.

Also there is a checkbox on the enhancement window that says 'Show Unavailable' (or something close to that). If you check that you can search all the enhancement available to you character from the classes he has chosen and look to see what the prerequisites are for future enhancements.

Well for someone who never played the PnP version or new to the game, it is not exactly intuitive since the text description for both are exactly the same. What is odd too (for me at least) is that Illusion IV:PK has a simpler requirement description of only Archmage Spell Mastery I while Illusion II: Blur had both primary and secondary listed even though you only need one.

Since I have picked the Secondary school, the entire list of Archmage Spell Mastery I was greyed out. I can't pick a primary at all even if I want choose another school like Necromancy.

Why does selecting Secondary school prevent you from selecting the Primary school when you have yet to pick one? Vice Versa, shouldn't the game force you to pick the Primary before allowing you to pick the Secondary?

While I don't find it counter-intuitive at all, I agree that they should probably force you into a primary before allowing you to select your secondary school.

The reason the requirement is simpler is because you cannot take Tier 4 or Tier 5 abilities in your secondary school - only in your primary school.

Seems pretty self-explanatory that you couldn't pick the same school for both primary and secondary, otherwise why would they bother to designate primary and secondary?

Agreed you should definitely have to take the Primary school enhancement prior to picking the secondary school enhancement.

Edit: Sorry, read a little more closely. Choosing a secondary school making ALL of the primary school listings unavailable is definitely bug-worthy. They probably assumed people would choose a Primary before choosing a secondary and most people probably did, so I doubt it would have been caught in QA or on Lamannia.

This is bug worthy. One would think that the Secondary should have Requires one of: Archmage Spell Mastery I: Illusion, Archmage Spell Mastery I: Transmuation, Archmage Spell Mastery I: Evocation, etc...

That would make a good suggestion as well in case someone looking at your bug sumission goes 'thats not a bug its WAI' and then ignores it.

The First Level is not specified as 'Primary.' If it isn't a bug, which it sounds likely not, then it is not defined well enough for noobs like myself. So... Off to swap a feet to make use of it. Yay... and stuff.
