Those rewards are BtA because they are lower ML. For example, you can get a +2 stat item with no ML from them, whereas normally that's ML 5. BtA is great for twink gear like that because it'll never take permanent damage as it's passed down.

Also, BtA doesn't prevent you from brokering items, as far as I know. "Starter" does, but those items don't have it.

Yes, Red Fens BtC rewards did irk me a bit.
Especially if you consider Chronoscope sets bind to account.

OK, I sort of understand on the twink gear. For the 'nicked' items that you get at the end of the last quest in the Sharn chain or as the one off chain reward, that makes sense and I have indeed hung onto them - in some cases I've held on to two of them for my TWF alts (heck my L10 ranger still has a pair of nicked scimmies on his hotbar, good for regenning critters). But those items are all unique, effectively named items - each has something 'special' about it - the scimmies being 1d8 and with sneak attack on them, the mace having stunning effects etc etc. I've run that chain a lot as its one of my favorites quest, XP, favour & story wise. The only thing I don't like is the loot - apart from the end loot it is all vendor trash. The least they could do would be not to have it bind so that I can broker it for more cash rather than just vendor it and have it completely wasted.

E.g. the set of +2 full plate that invariably drops from guard kayde after the money launders quest, or the items of easily-found-elsewhere-clickies from the end of the Binder rescue. By L4 I've often already found one of these elsewhere, I'm not hanging on to that for an alt. Its pointless.

Re brokering: BTA or BTC does stop you from brokering them. It doesn't stop you vendoring them, but I prefer to broker whatever I can for more cash and to give other people the opportunity to use stuff that dropped for me that I don't need.

all the arguments against seem to consist of "No, i want to mooch off of other players." Tough. I would much rather be able to farm a quest like the dreamforge on multiple chars for chattering ring than hope that a person will get it and give it to me.

depending, this may also increase the number of people running quests, because theyll be doing it multiple times on multiple toons.

also, many items are already bta so yeah.

Bad idea. Lazy idea. Greedy idea.

Anything worth getting should be BTC only.

Keeps us busy outfitting each character. And gives people a good reason to share things they can't use on their current character.

True and agreed, as long as binding items appear as chest loot.
When you get them as quest rewards you can't share them with your team mates.

How is it lazy or greedy? youd still have to do an equal amount of work, but youd have to do it yourself in a shorter amount of time. How irritating would it be to pull an uber btc item when another one of your chars needs it?

why would you want to be kept "busy" outfitting one character? do you like grinding? busywork from running a queset 40+ times is not my idea of fun..

sharing is all and well, but i would much rather get all my own stuff with no one sharing with me...

I can see where this idea might have merit in some cases with certain items But the last thing I need to see is some lvl 12 nonTR toon out in the vale fully decked out in GS items and weapons, what fun is that. Making those very powerful items i.e. GS, TOD items, DT, or other high end gear BTA would ruin this game completely, it might as well become Mickey Mouse and the tickle party.

I would never call anyones ideas stupid, because every idea comes out of some need to correct something but we often dont see the far reaching results of what we think to be a simple change.

As far as the loot hoarding that would get completely crazy people would loot for toons they dont have yet. You could pull uber stuff, bank it and then build a toon around it.

Yeah. BTA on end rewards is perfect. But in chest should almost always be BTC if its bound at all. Maybe even have bta/btc versions of each item depending on where it's from.

But BTA in raid loot isn't a good idea overall. Alot of groups would not bother to fill beyond what's required to complete. ie.. reaver... If that was all bta and loot all got to be the standard...

Why take 11 other people? Aside from friends only / guild only.

BTC encourages sharing and grouping. Even if its for greed type reasons.

ah, this is a valid point. i wouldnt wanna run GH with people toating around GS :/. Maybe they should raise the level limit on GS, 12 is just to low ><. Also, how does BTA TOD items ruin the game? They have a level req of 18 or so, at which point youll be in amrath already, no harm there. Aside from GS, i dont think anything else would be ridiculous.

also, while loot hoarding may be bad, i think having to grind for an item over the course of 120 days is worse (Chattering Ring!!! /fistshake).

You're 100% right that anything really worth getting should be BTC - if it wasn't on so much 'random' (i.e. not named) stuff in end rewards that is utterly useless to the character that looted it. I don't mind bind on pickup from chests, it encourages people to allow rolls on loot they don't need. Its random end rewards where you can't do anything with it - and because no-one can roll on your end reward no-one else can either, and you can't even auction it or broker it so that someone else can make use of it and you can make a profit at the same time. It becomes vendor trash, taken straight out of the game.

Y'know, I do wonder whether for end rewards there should be another category of "bound to account on pick up, bound to character on equip" - you might be offered a randomly generated piece of loot on the end reward list that would be good for an alt, but once that alt then wears it, its theirs forever.

Just want to be clear on something else: I think the red fens stuff should be bind to character because its named loot, and it's part of a set with set bonuses to boot. But perhaps they should also be part of the 'end loot by class' selection for those that turn it on, so that when they do drop they're at least likely to be immediately useful to the character that looted them.

But all that's just musing on my part and I don't have the top down view that Devs will have, they probably had good reason when they put the items in the system.

The only real suggestion I have is more broad than that: I just think they've got some stuff's 'binds on' status wrong, and I think its long time past they do a review of all the end reward loot to re-evaluate its status, and then look through the random loot tables for other bound gear and consider that too.

I could see keeping a BtA no-ML +2 Full Plate around. It's no no-ML +2 STR ring, but it's not bad for early levels.

There's only going to be as much loot as the Devs can make, and that will be limited. By using the random loot-get system to make augment those with potentially named-quality loot, they give many more choices of quality loot. I've gotten a ML5 BtA Moderate Fort Ring from Tangleroot. That's better than the named loot there (except maybe the Visor).

If it weren't for items like that, the end reward for TR would be completely pointless for me at this point. How many Visors do I really need?

You can sell them at the broker, they just don't show up as buy-able to other players. So, you can get the cash, just not the warm-fuzzies of helping others.

That is not my experience. I have gone straight from Guard Kayd for example to the broker with my armour worth just over 400 plat, and it does not appear in the list to sell. However, perhaps I missed something, next time I will take a closer look.

Maybe that one item is bugged. I have never had a problem brokering bound items and have even saved all those redundant bound khorthos end rewards when playing a new server specifically to get broker rates on them.

I can see a very good reason why Sharn, for example, loot is bound. It's P2P content and access to that loot is one of it's selling points.

As for why some loot is BtC rather than BtA. It's simply a tool to extend the useful life of the games unavoidably limited content. If it takes as long or longer to farm everything one wants out of content as it takes to develop new content players will keep playing. It's really that simple and I don't see Turbine making a change that allows players to finish the game and move on to something else anytime soon.
