It depends.

If you were prepared to shoot her if necessary, then no, you weren't in the wrong.

If you were only threatening her with the pistol, and did not intend to shoot her, then you should not have pointed the weapon at her.

He didn't have to shoot to kill, and yes even though any gun shot wound can be fatal, maybe he wanted to bust her knee caps up or something.

I never understood those movies where some bad guy is finally having a gun pointed at him, then he goes on some 'you won't kill me speech' as he slowly takes the weapon back from his kidnap victim/whatever....

If it was me, I'd be like "You're right, I'm not going to kill you....", "but you'll never walk again!!!" BLAM BLAM BLAM!

Dude defend your home and more importantly your wife, this lady could have been hopped up on who-knows-what.

Well ok, you did good but at the start you should of had your wife call 911. The very fact the door was forced would strike alarm with me. Gun out, wife call 911. Keep the situation calm and be alert on subject but you should of checked on your kids (if any) it might have been a decoy. So it's call 911, check and gather family, keep stranger in focused calm manner and defend if needed. You don't know what she has or that guy gave her. Some bad stuff can make any person stronger, not feel pain, etc, even with your bullets flying it wouldn't stop them. Its almost like a zombie sad enough. So controlling the situation with calm was good, calling 911 sooner, and gather family would have been better.

All in all I'm glad you family is alright. Really...

Sad enough most places where law abiding people are unarmed. Crime get much higher. Look at Mexico, our big cities, etc. Its saddens me more that we must be armed in some way to have peace and defend our families.
