    Question Voice chat program suggestion

Does anyone know of a voice chat program for Windows, preferably free, that allows you to set the volume level of each individual user?

We're trying to setup a networked PnP D&D game, and I can't find such an option in either Teamspeak 3 or Ventrilo.

Edit: Also, we need it to allow users to choose between push-to-talk, voice activation, and "always on".

Edit 2: I made the OP assuming that individual volume control is the solution to my group's problem. But since I'm sleep deprived and just in case I missed a better solution, please let me state the problem.

We have a gaming room with a central speaker and mic where several people meet for gaming. A couple of us are remote. Using TS 3, the remote people have to crank the playback volume very high to hear everyone in the game room. Unfortunately, when one of the remote players talks, it deafens the other remote people.

    Suggestions?

Our guild uses GSC. You can download from www.getgsc.com. It's completely free from the client to the server host. The voice chat administer names the server, creates the rooms, and adds the security functions. All your guildies need to do is register the product, find the named server, and login. it has the individual volume adjustments you're looking for.

    Question One more question

One question I forgot to put in the OP. Does it allow users to choose between push-to-talk and "always on"?

Thanks for the recommendation bubbazen! I'll check it out.

You can set volume individually in Ventrilo using "special effect:volume" on each user, or you can normalize all the users volumes using a compressor [like this].

However, ventrilo is only free for up to 8 users. I would recommend you taking a look at Mumble, its open source and free. [wikipedia].

For Teamspeak 3, simply right-click the user and "Change Volume" is one of the options.

I was looking at TS 3 and Vent's options. For some reason, it didn't occur to me to try selecting individual users at the time.

I had briefly looked at Mumble due to Vent's 8 user limit. It looked interesting, however it stated you couldn't set the volume level of individual users. Although they claimed you shouldn't need to because it uses AGC. I just wasn't sure how well that works in practice.

I'm going to edit the OP with my group's situation, just in case I'm missing a better solution to our problem.

    Thanks for the info!
    +1 to everyone
