Rereading a compilation of Lovecraft stories called 'Necronomicon'.

Also reading the westlandseries by Katharine Kerr (currently on the 3rd one). Don't really know if it's as good in english though. (reading 'em in dutch)

Books you guys posted and I've read:

    Dark Tower series
Series by Robin Hobb (and I have to agree. The newest series is kinda different than the previous ones. But it gets better.)
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn (was one of the first adult fantasy series I've read)

Authors I recommend, just off the top of the head

    SF
    Asimov
    Jack Vance
Marco Kunst (probably tough to find. Been translated to english as 2 different titles: 'erased' and 'wiped' )

Fantasy (These are mostly popular writers)
    Raymond E. Feist
    Robert Jordan
Ride on shooting star / With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun / I kept on singing

Also, the first book from Kingkiller Chronicles was great. Eagerly awaiting the next book.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, as mentioned previously in this thread, is nothing profound, but it's a lot of fun.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned A Song of Ice and Fire yet. While it's maddening waiting for the next book to come out, the first four books were simply fantastic.

    Outstanding!

If you like Dracula then I Highly suggest
you try Mary Shelly's "Frankestein" and Dr Jaeckel and Mister Hyde.

Those and the classic Tarzan Lord of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
have never been truly translated properly on film.

They are just truly too awesome for words.

I'm still reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld series -- no change from the last time this topic came up.
I've been going through them in order in what little spare time I have that isn't devoted to DDO and wedding planning. Lords and Ladies is where I am, currently.

Love that series. I read up to #153 a couple years ago and keep meaning to go back to it, but there's always something else that catches my attention first.

ATM I'm reading Glen Cook's "The Swordbearer". It's okay, but the sword reminds me too much of Stormbringer and there's no sexy albino to go with it, alas.

I’m slowly making my way through Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

I’m a player in a Dragonlance campaign and up until this year have never played in the Dragonlance setting. It’s been good so far and I hope to have all three books in the trilogy done by the end of 2011.

Pratchet is guaranteed quality, especially now that he's learned how to end a book nicely.

Reading The Dante Club right now, and its great, a murder mystery taking place in old time boston, but that is just killing time until Fall of Giants comes out. Loved his last two books (world without end and Pillars of the Earth)

I love reading, but, unfortunately I don't have to many time for this. I red the last two books, becaus I was forced to do it (school). It was Reymont's "Peassants" (which is incredibly boring), and Conrad's "Hearth od Darkness" (this one was quite good). Before I red freshly translated 4th edition Player's Handbook, and Dungeon Master's Guide (I was very dissapointed). The last really good book that I red was "Solaris" by Stanisław Lem. Its really great book, I recommend it to (almost) everyone.

    EDIT: How could I forgotten!?!?
    I'm reading DDO forums!!!

I have a couple of Glen Cook's "The Black Company" series books. One of his characters in that series is also Stormbringer. However its a shapechanging wizard that was corrupted to the side of evil.

This discussion may have just caused me to stop at the used book store on my way home from work and something else to look for. I may have to check out that book as I'm usually checking Glen Cook anyways for the other books that I'm missing.

This book was better than the last few Salvatore Drizzt books, but was still so predictable and sappy for my tastes. It was much better that Elmister must Die though which IMO was one of the worst books I've ever read.

I just finished 'My Life as a Traitor' about a young Iranian woman who has a free thinking mind. One day, after a quiet protest to allow women more rights such as the ability to wear pink shoes whenever they wanted (her own quote), she was abducted by the Secret Police.

The book recounts her ordeal within that prison. She was beaten, tortured, forced to acknowledge that she had commited crimes which she did not. It is a harrowing tale that shows how much injustice (and women having little to no rights) still occurs in this world. I won't reveal any more than that or it would be a spoiler. Did you know that Zoroastrianism exists?

It's a nice book. She's currently living in Australia (moved here with the help of the author of the book). I highly recommend it.
In case you didn't already notice, my posts that end with must NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.

    Jumping between
Sabbat Worlds Anthology (Dan Abnett and others) Warhammer 40K short stories
    Why we suck (Denis Leary)
and World War Z (Max Brooks) rereading this one.

    Next up are
Good Omens (Pratchett & Gaiman) reread
When Gravity fails (George Alec Effinger) reread
When the sleeper wakes (H.G. Wells) reread.

A lot of rereads atm. I sorted my bookshelves and couldn't resist reading some older books again :-)

Interestingly, I was waiting to read through all the posts before I replied, but this post caught my attention. I finished The Name of the Wind, which is quite possibly the best book I've ever read.

After finishing that, I bought all four current A Song of Ice and Fire books. I am presently about 3/4 through the first book. It's daunting, considering each book is well over 1000 pages, and there are four of them, with 3 more to come! It took a bit to get into it since it started kind of slow, but once it got going, man, it's awesome. (I'm also excited about the HBO show coming out next year based on book 1, A Game of Thrones.) Winter is coming, indeed!

Also, +1 for mentioning both of the books I was about to mention, in the same post.

I'm on another Stephen King trip and I'm trying to catch up on some books of his I missed. I just finished Cell which I really liked alot and now I'm reading Under the Dome which is a bit slower than the Cell and I'm having a bit of a hard time focusing on atm for some reason. I like the story and Stephen King is doing what he does best and that's capturing small town mania, insanity and corruption. I truly truly hate the badguys in this book, almost to the point where I don't want to read it. Lol. You know he's doing a good job when I hate them that much.

After this I plan on catching up on some R.A. Salvatore or some Brian Lumley.

Nice, all great reads! Armour is prolly one of my all time favorites. The Remo Williams stuff is fun. Gibson is a great writer imo. He paints a vivid picture.

Right now I'm into Clive Cussler's Dragon a Dirk Pitt adventure. Cussler writes some great adventure and Pitt is an awesome character, as is Al. I like his Kurt Austin stuff but am not as enamored with the Oregon Files stuff. The ship is cool tho...

Anything from the Black Library.. Gaunt's Ghosts series in particular.. Ultra Marines Omnibus.. The Brunor series was fun... any of the Slayer series...

Mac Bolan ftw.. if your old enough to remember them.. ;p

    And Pratchett is always awesome..
