Hey Devs! Let's give Warpriests and Eldritch Knights some loving, kay? :<
Sure, if it's a Cursespewing/crowd-control type Repeater. However, I would prefer a Shuriken with the effect that way I could have something in the other hand, eg. Spell Pen Kama (haven't seen many though).
However, I wouldn't use a plain damage-dealing Repeater unless it's to use some specific ammunition that would be handy in the situation. Too darned fiddly.
With regards to proficiencies in general, sure, go for what works. As mentioned in another thread here in the Cleric forums, nowt wrong with using two weapons without the feats once you're able to compensate for the to-hit loss.

Well, you're starting to get the idea, but I don' think you've ever seen the Shuriken selection in the Auction House. If you find a Cursespewing Shuriken on the auction house, it's probably cost unreasonable millions. On the other hand, interesting repeaters come fairly often and aren't ridiculously price. Not to mention, they're a lot more varied in status effects than any other ranged selection. If I was aiming for pure damage I would've went with a bow, but what I found there were things I would prefer to find on my handwraps.
What I look for is a (improved) cursespewing (any) crossbow of shattermantle, which is more commonly found on repeaters in the auction I found. This helps with the low DC and Spell Pen build I have to cast off spells like Destruction without worrying about obstruction. Sure, it's an extra step, but I happen to like my build enough to keep it this way.
And yes, I can hit on a 2+. In many cases, I can hit on a 2+ Running around at that.
Cursespewing + Shattermantle on a Repeater is nice.
You could then go one further and switch over to a more standard Spell Pen mace and Necromancy/Abjuration/Evocation/Enchantment dagger. Quickdraw, perhaps.
I have not used the AH much over the last few months (mostly playing PD). However I do like to smash crates, and this is how I've found a few nice shurikens. Which I use to smash crates if I don't have time to get everything.
However the main thing I look for on the AH is Superior Ardor VI Quarterstaves, which I never find on the right server.
Because Superior Ardor provides a 75% boost, whereas Superior Potency provides a 50% boost. Try it yourself, buy a Superior Ardor 1 potion from the House of Wizardry, and compare its effect upon a Cure Light Wounds to that of a Superior Potency item.
(and yes, I already have Superior Potency VI items. thankfully they appear somewhat common in quarterstaff form)
As for why Quarterstaff, it is because I like having Monk-stance compatible items. The Clerics I play tend to be Clonks; some even have 3 Monk making the equipment restrictions more relevant. This doesn't prevent me from using the same effect from other items, but it makes for a smoother experience.
(so there's also the preference for ardor items over devotion/potency as it allows me more freedom towards a more involved combat style)

Answer: Because they aren't fighting with them. Chances are you see a cleric wielding two clubs it's because one if probably a potency item and the other is likely a devotion club or Scepter of the magi or something.
My personal view is that if you want to fight so bad, make a tank. If you want to heal, make a cleric. Hell, if you can't decide which then make a pally or a fvs. What you shouldn't do is make a gimp. And what you certainly shouldn't do is try to convince people to make gimps as well in order to feel better about your own.
Once tried opening a shoe shop for beholders, when that didn't work out I decided to hit stuff with lumps of sharpened metal instead.
Clerics can melee just as well as Favoured Souls.
The difference is just +1 to-hit and 4 damage...with the favoured weapon only.
And Khopesh isn't a favoured weapon.
Clerics can definitely melee...if built for it.
On the other hand, expecting that any Cleric, regardless of STR, level, playing ability, gear, ect. would be able to pick up any weapon in the game and be effective with it is also wrong.
I have nothing against people who like playing Healbots....if thier having fun doing so then more power to em. But for someone who can watch Red Bars and add a bit of DPS or Debuffs through proper weapons(Improv Destruction,Maldroit,Paralyzation,Etc) then they should do it. Clerics can be a very powerful class if played right....no you won't be top notch DPS....but that's not what clerics who fight are trying to do. They are just sick of sitting around.
My cleric isn't a Gimp.
No I don't wear a Concordant Opp item on my Barb...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Zixx of the FlatBlade(Barb)

I didnt get that from his post though seriously he knows there are caster clerics out there ive shrouded with him with my caster cleric. What hes saying is there is a difference and some people do roll up clerics to "only heal" they dont even carry a mace or club that ups that like potency or devotion they just carry a mace and shield and think mashing heal bars is all their class is good for.
He knows a cleric can melee if they work at it and he knows they can cast if they spec for it to. Normally I dont jump in the middle of such things unless I know the person and he wasnt calling people who only cast gimps he was referring to heal bots who only heal and carry weapons just for the look.
And Toombs ya can correct me if im wrong.
