I started a run the other day with my lowbie (14th) and put 'experienced, no exceptions' in the lfm.

got a lot of flak for that comment.
    Vod is easy they say..

yea, but dbl red alert getting there from people falling, running wrong way, taking wrong portal, FoDing all the mobs before the center is lit, "where did these traps come from"..

the adventure to get to VoD can take a few seconds or 20 minutes (or longer)...

    that is experience.

Invis is so easy to use, but no one does....ever...in there.

And now the new sub-T since the last update has been HORRID on lag/banding/stuttering... just horrid...

"oops, missed my jump" "red alert" "lagged"

so the other day, we formed a vod, full of the worst puggers imagineable,

im sure you can imagine what happened next...

    i solo cleared to vod

    game over

The moral of the story, is if everyone was as awesome as me (as your
indignation of the random pugger would clearly suggest),
the thelanis forums would be full of interesting topics, and maybe
actually entertaining to visit now and again.

    boosh.

Generally from my experience, getting there is the hardest part of the quest for most people.

That's not to say that people should have any trouble getting there. Sure, even the most experienced ones of us miss our jumps sometimes (like when green devils teleport in front of you while making the jump...), but we have the ability to get ourselves back up, and proceed to pretty much solo clear our way to the quest while the "Uber-vets" aggro everything and fall and die.

Stop making excuses for failing your jumps, you do it almost every time. Although, I admit, that it is hard to make a jump at 9FPS <3

Whenever I see those LFMs, I always imagine a throng of inexperienced players who need a nanny saying, "Woah, that's going to be full of experienced players. I should join that. And lie if they ask whether everyone has done the raid before."

    Here's a question.

Did you bother to teach said newbs or are you just here to make fun of them?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!

    probably right there.

however, you know what they tell me...?

I ask if they have done the raid before and have experience.

I had a guy tell me its easy. he did it once on his toon..once.. enough experience, no problem. Same with some vod guys.

    its kinda funny actually.

one guy joined a loot run..a full zerg loot run on a 19th level dungeon. I said 'you sure you can handle this and not have any problems, right, you are experienced?'

he said I am experienced enough...how much do I need to open a chest? its easy.

    it is funny...

Generally, people will assume that you know what you're doing unless you otherwise tell them.

And there are multiple casters/archers, so if you see one die, you tell them not to kill them.

Unfortunately, most noobs happen to be deaf as well, apparently.

OTOH, if a newbie joined a raid that I was leading, I would happily help them (unless I wanted to do it on a higher difficulty, in which case, I would want them to be experienced).

i run lowbies and teaching runs..
but joining a run looking for experienced zergers I don't want newbies..

but in reality, these stories are funny...not fun of, but just fun with.

Yep, the first time you were in the Sub-T, you know exactly how to get there...

    Oh wait, you didn't....

It was easier for us, because NO one knew the way... so everyone stuck together, and learned it together...

It's harder today, because half the vets take off before everyone is even in the Sub-T... All the new players have to go on is a bunch of blue dots on a crappy map.

But yeah, they just suck... If it was YOUR first time in there, with half the leaders already sitting at the quest entrance... YOU would make it no problem...

The first time I was in the sub, I said it was my first time. I didn't blow it off as if being somewhere new were nothing to even think about.

    Sure, and I did too..

The OP is amazed they can't complete a simple task like make it to a raid entrance. I'm pointing out that at one time, it was a tough task for him too...

Let me ask a general question...

Let's say it's your first time golfing... You've never been interested in the sport, but a friend talking you into going one Saturday morning with two guys he works with...

Your first shot is a dribble off the tee... And one of the guys in the foursome goes off on how easy it is to hit a driver, how he can't believe you can't complete a simple task like that, and how he's never going to play with noobs like you again.

Is the guy a cool vet uber elite? Or just an ******?

If you're running VoD this isn't your first time playing "golf". Still, everyone makes mistakes and not everyone is going to live up to the OPs expectations.

Ill post an experience in VoD from this morning.

There was a few of the peeps in the run who were quite experienced and the rest of the group was openly very green to the run. Maybe half and half.

There was never a single issue thoughout the quest or in getting there mostly because the newer folks listened well and played their arses off while the veteran players provided a steady hand for the group without showboating.

I enjoy running in groups where peeps new to the quest are open about their inexperience and ask questions and play hard. To me it takes some of the grind feeling out of getting back on timer.

Had alot of fun in that run. To bad they are few and far between anymore.

Quick add on: There is no n00bs in DDO anymore.
New peeps are so scared of being called a noob they grind out TRs and collect uber gear without taking the time to actually learn the game and just pretend they are more experienced than they are.
Then of course they toss up LFMs like "no noobs" "if you dont know me dont join" or "good guilds only" because they actually think that is going to attract uber players and weed out worthless noobs from joining.
I am not exactly sure why they do this but I am thinking perhaps they feel that by acting in this manner it makes them uber by association. Or perhaps they just want someone good enough in the group to be able to carry their arses through the quest so as to require minimal effort, ability or experience from themselves.

I saw an LFM for Hound and that was my first time venturing into Subterrane. I've been there a couple of times now, Hound and VoD, but I still can't clearly remember the way to both of them.

Some day I would like to explore the subterrane though, instead of the usual rush to Hound or VoD.

That depends. Was the invitation that you expected for a casual round of golf or is it a tournament that advertised "pros only, no duffers"?

Good point. However, OP sounds like it was just normal VoD run and he couldn't believe there exist people who don't know the way!

the issue seems to mostly be people afraid to say they are new. I understand this as I have seen leaders freak on new players.

I ask, in a calm tone, at the begining of the sub-t if anyone is pretty new to the sub-t, maybe only 0-20 times in here and if they would like a bit of help to make sure they get there fine.

most are very afraid to answer, but if they do, I go harrison ford from cisco kid on them and tell them to keep an eye on my tukas and follow me.

but there are many who come in having done it once...and think they know all of it...and refuse either help or guidance..and cause a bad scene. Those guys we write about.

the rest are just amusing stories reminding us of when we were new.
