so I joined an 'xp farm' on norm on a quest called temple of vol...looks like they were gonna do it many times too.
awesome, a couple casters, a fvs, zooomm...maybe get some boots.
jumped in orchard ran to quest...was not started yet.
leader was off doing chests in orchard 'can't pass them up' he said...ok I though, Ill wait...and wait....
finally got them done and the existing group gathered at door. Another caster joined us. 'we should wait til he gets here to start'...
so, now it has been about 12 minutes since I got to the door....sigh. And we have not even started yet. Okay, benefit of the doubt, we gonna run this uber fast..
we enter...go to left side, get keys... and wait... as we get all the traps on that side.
Even though we have the keys to drop down, we now go to the other side and get the traps there.
sigh...
We finally get down to the middle area..3 casters and a fvs.... One guy...just one.. goes running for some mobs (which all kinda get hung up now) and we slowly, ever so slowly, kill each group that is brought in. Lucky for us the runner waits til each group is dead til he runs out for more.
Only one runner allowed so this takes quite a while.
Then, due to door closures and not having opened the lower doors, we all have to run around the whole dungeon anyway to kill the vamps needed.
Did I mention, we gotta break all vases and such...spawning firewall immune shadows everywhere?
finally, finally, at end battle...light up vamps 2 seconds death...chest.
leader says 'i got door' anyone want to farm some more......
a 5 minute farm, tops, that took well over 30 minutes... I passed.
I guess I am old, but an xp farm used to be a wild zerg fest for loot and quick xp. I would have called this type of run in the old days a 'do all optionals, relaxed run'....
we could have run it 6 or 7 times in the same span of time. I understand what the leader was doing. And I did not bail til the dungeon was over. We followed his instructions.
But it was not an XP farm to me. Not at all. Not a loot run either.
Is this what xp farming means nowadays?
Vol in the old days..
caster (or fvs now) would enter and an IP would be put up....as people entered they ran around and killed the vamps needed, killed the end guys, hit the side chest, out...a few minutes..done. Back in...done...back in done...
no crates, no second chest for key, zerg/kill/loot/xp...
A fellow guildie joined the group too...she was yawning and falling asleep too... We finished it for the group and did what was required, but we had to leave after that.
The leader was a nice person, and all the players were very nice, we did a good job.
But we got suckered into thinking we were in a nice xp/loot farm and we were not.
