I know you Rtwo and I too think this was a /fail. The whole point of a raffle is to gamble at the chance of getting a set of scales. The excitment to gambling is the anticipation of seeing the roll. Nobody got this anticipation.
I understand you getting frustrated with running this, but the answer was not to log on a roll by yourself and tell everyone who won. You had to know this was not what was expected and had to know people would not like this.
Regardless, congrats Chester. My scale is in your mail.
Oog
Ooglys Pet WF 18Wiz/2Rogue, Oogli 18 Bard/2Fighter, Ooog Ly 12 fighter/6 Ranger/2 Monk, Ogly 20th Cleric, Oogly 20th Rogue, Ooogly 20th Paladin, Oooogly 20th Fighter , Gallion 20th Sorcerer
My biggest gripes are:
1) constantly letting you all know what was going on (school and such) and what it would be like for me to run this and over the amount of time from start to today and still seeing a bunch of "when is this goin down?" I was as honest as I could have been about what I hoped would happen before we started it, but still kept getting pestered. If someone wanted to take it up they could have felt more than welcome. I thought I was very honest in my OP and things I added in later about what I had hoped for and was willing to discuss with people to change things but didn't see much of that happening.
2) Amongst all the people who signed up/know about this, not really seeing anyone else just coming in like "hey this was mentioned in an epic dragon I did, I'll sign up." I know that being the one running this I should recruit a lot of people into being interested, but that doesn't automatically dismiss the rest of the people taking part in this from mentioning it to others to gain more interest. Think of all the epic dragons RG and GRR does and the number of possible entrants that could be and then add in more of the server. I was surprised to have sub 20 entrants in this to be honest.
3) Is it so bad to think that maybe we could have more winners than one big winner to spread the wealth and promote more people getting to their goal?
You should nto be surprised that no one who doesn't know you personally was willing to enter; its a lot to trust you with.
Further, participation is particularly linked to people being friends with other participants: I would guess that most people who entered did so not only because they want to win, but because they know everyone else who entered and are cool with them (as a guildie/etc) getting a set if they don't.
Further, Oog is right about the anticipation/excitement of the actual roll, and further that the whole point is bam you have a set. I thought about entering the first one, but had little to no interest in this one and definitely wouldn't even have considered one that didn't result in 20 scales for the winner. The whole point is that someone gets an armor immediately. Getting 2 weeks off your time to get one and still having 5 to go is in no way that exciting.
Since it was done in such haste, and people hadn't even mailed in their scales, so the grand prize wasn't even available, It kinda stinks you made the roll...
I would've been happier if it was passed off to someone with more time or just voided.
But, I understand though about the horrors of school, work, health and real life. Sorry.
And again, it is just one scale...
Congrats Chester!
Thank you Rtwo for dealing with this as well! I like events and the fact that you picked it up. It is kinda surprising that with the amount of players on the server, we had trouble reaching even 20 entries.
