emusic: review? anyone use?

Anyone out there use emusic to dowload tunes?

I see the have 45 free songs when you sign up (and then it's $10, cancel at any time).

Just curious to know how the selection is, service, etc.

I'm very eclectic in my musical tastes....though my blackheart will always belong to metal

I tend to dislike/distrust sites that limit you from scanning their catalog prior to signing up.

I tried eMusic but ended up canceling after just a few weeks. I have somewhat obscure and odd tastes and found their selection just wasn't all that great. If you want to search around and find new music for yourself, it's pretty cool, but if you want a specific album or artist there were far too many cases in which they didn't have what I was looking for. After not finding a dozen artists in a row I realized this service just wasn't for me.

If I might ask, what were some of the artists you were looking for?

As I said, generally stuff that would be considered pretty obscure. Neu!, Captain Beefheart, Tortoise, some pop stuff like Empire of the Sun, early INXS, The Residents, Camel, early proggy Genesis, Blackalicious, Wilco, the soundtrack to The American Astronaut by Cory McAbee and several others. I found using eMusic to be quite nice, they just didn't have the kind of stuff I was looking for.
