I used spell resistances up through 10 or 12. I had fort as an option on my belt at the time though.
A lot of mix and matching of gear at this level range though.

Above all else, wear the outfit that LOOKS best. We all know what's important here.

Also note: you should have a deathblock robe or item at this point to switch into situation-ally.

I would say a bunch of different ones to swap. I tend to get hammerblock and spearblock for the DR. I also have the best fire and acid resist robes I can find. I get heavy fort somewhere else usually as I like to swap robes as the greater fire and greater acid robes are easy to get and I like them for when I solo.

In groups you may get alot of aggro so you need a medium or haevy fort (on robe or somewhere else) and it also helps to get the best dr for the weps they use. Spiders are spear, ogres are hammer and soo on. ..

This way you take less damage per hit. With a relatively high ac (which you should have) and the heavy fort and a DR wep against the damage type you will take very little damage. IF the mobs have a particular type of spells (acid or fire for example) then if no caster there gives resist or protection then just swap a rogue and cover it that way.

    edit:
forgot to add the DB (deathblock) is key in certain adventures and is a must for some.
