Granted, Poldolski should have scored to tie it up.

But Germany never should have been down to 10 men.

yep - up untill today the officiating has been good...yeah Germany certainly did not deserve to go down at all. And the missed PK...that really hurt I was pulling for them to go level there...no such luck. Up untill today I put Germany in the top (and dont get me wrong I still believe they should be considered a top contender) 3 or 4 with Spain and Brazil. Spain laid an egg though so now...not so sure. Its been fun for certain to watch.

The conspiracy theorist would have one believe that the ref was told beforehand not to let the US win. But mostly... just like baseball... another sport with no replay or at-game accountability. Best match of the world cup so far USA versus Slovenia. The Americans played with such hunger such passion after going 2 nil down, they battled on to make it 2 all ,before being cheated by the referee for a well deserved victory. I do wish they move onto the next stage /salute USA

...A day later and I'm still having a hard time swallowing the call that, in all probability, cost us two critically important points in a very tight group.

On the other hand, USA can't seem to play well without a true sense of urgency, so maybe "must beat Algeria" isn't quite as bad as it may seem. Findley won't be available due to cautions in the first two matches, which could also be a blessing in disguise. With Algeria pushing for a win as well, I think that we stand a very good chance of blowing the game open fairly early (for once).

Did enough that they should have beaten USA and were unlucky not to bury Slovenia by several goals today.

This is truth. I really don't think there's some overarching conspiracy...I think its just officiating incompetence.

but what do you expect of referees from saudi arabia and the like? they almost never lead a match on a high level, because the leagues they "play" in aren't good enough. and then they get to a world cup where everything is so much faster, the fouls are more hidden and especially the acting is much more exaggerated. that's just asking too much of those referees. but that's the fault of the FIFA to invite them to such an important tournament.

it is an interesting project with good intent to use refs from all over the world, but i'd call it a failed experiment.

Well it seems like Green's mistake is more costly than England thought.

Instead of playing Ghana and then probably Uruguay....England get Germany followed most likely by Argentina.

Going to be tough....
