    Default toughness or power attack?

building a 14 pally 6 ranger finesse AC build, curious if people think toughness or powerattack would be more beneficial

Well, in most builds you need both really, in a finesse build power attack is even more critical since your damage will be lower from scratch, what other feats are you picking? what race?

    Power Attack or Toughness?

The correct answer is both. What other feats you have? We might find something else that would be better dropped than either PA or Toughness.

Finesse and Paladin usually do not go very well together.
Editing everything i post, since day 1. Things make much more sense inside my head.

Trick question - the real question is why are you making a Finesse-based Tempest / Paladin in the first place?

The only reason one looks at finesse is because of build points ... the issue of a paladin is stat thinning, The OP brings up another issue for a twf pally - feat thinning.

He is taking 6 ranger for tempest and then treating dex as his main combatant stat - If I had a copper for every time I thought about eliminating finesse on a toon I'd be a rich wan...

My advice to the OP strength is your main combat feat ... for pally I like the number 16 in about and all level abilities into it. Rely on a tome to add GTWF and ac itself should not be too much an issue shall you tweak it gear-wise...

Weapon Finesse tends to look awesome in the early levels. But the disparity between buffs available to Strength and Dexterity means that even though you have 4-6 more starting Dexterity than Strength, you'll probably end up with more Strength than Dexterity once you're buffed up in endgame (making Weapon Finesse a waste).

Note that you get one free feat swap, so you can easily start out as a Finesse build and then use your free feat swap to exchange it for Power Attack (which you won't be using in the early game anyway). You don't really need any different stats (unless, for some odd reason, you were planning to dump Strength), and you'll just put your leveling points in Strength.
