    Default Help building a Dwarf Intimi-Tank.

    I've been going about making this char so wrong.
    So, I'll ask questions that I need answers to, instead of refining the same crappy build.

    1. Can you use Tomb of Supreme Ability on a 32 point build?

    2. What's the best heavy armor to have end-game?

    3. What's the best tower shield to have end-game?

    3. Is UMD valuable to an Intimi-Tank with a Cha of 14?

    4. Is there a good class to multi to, and do the pro's outweigh the cons?

    5. Can these feats be sacrificed, without gimping my build?
    I will only sacrifice 2 of these. Which is better to keep of the 3?

    -Dodge 1 AC
    -Bullheaded 1 Will saves, 2 Intimidate
    -Stunning Blow Support Attack

    You failed to answer a single question. How annoying.

    A better question, than what armor/shield, would be.
    What should my Dex be?
    What kinda Max Dex bonus will I expect to see end-game?
    Will tower shield enhancement's be needed end-game?

    Why you would want to place your Dwarf into a Tomb of Supreme Ability is beyond me. If you mean Tome of Supreme Ability then yes.

    2. What's the best heavy armor to have end-game?
    Dragon Touched. Crafted through the Reaver's Refuge quests.

    3. What's the best tower shield to have end-game?
    Levik's Defender is a popular choice. Drops in the Hound of Xoriat raid.

    4. Is UMD valuable to an Intimi-Tank with a Cha of 14?
    That is up to you determine. Being able to pop out a raise dead scroll, maybe self healing between fights can be handy. It also has a nice synergy with being a higher Cha skill Intimidate build.

    5. Is there a good class to multi to, and do the pro's outweigh the cons?
    Paladin for 2 levels is a solid choice. You further reduce your ability to DPS though, but do gain saves from Charisma bonus, Disease Immunity, some wand usage, and a few other goodies. As much as I would like the saves, giving up Fighter Alacrity is a bit too steep. From the raids I have seen I end up DPSing more than Sword and Board, and being able to be tough and do some damage ups the success rate. ymmv

    I run all three and love them. In looking at your previous build post I would shed Spring Attack/Mobility/Shield Bash/Great Cleave/Cleave in that order attack before giving up any one of these. If you are really going to be an intimi-tank you will not be moving around enough to benefit from Spring Attack/Mobility, and Dodge is a pre-requisite for both. Shield Bashing sounds good in theory, but it just does not pan out. Great Cleave/Cleave have been more than covered in your previous post.

    I work and have a family as well, and if you are not going to make a significant effort to be prepared to be an intimi-tank I would suggest a different path. Other players have offered some exceptional advice in your other thread regarding your proposed build so if you do not have time to read through the forums I would go back and read them. If you find more time becomes available follow the links that people have provided.

    Tome, yes you can.

    I can't say for certain. Best I have is +5 mithral FP which used to be top notch but likely no longer is.

    It's always really nice to have both for using gear and self healing. In elite and such you generally leave the healing to others but its great solo or in small groups.

    Rogue is good to get UMD and evasion (sometimes it matters a lot more than armor does for a tank) Paladin is nice for a boost to saves. Of course there are tanks built on monk that are very different and would splash differently.

    Stunning Blow is the most "powerful" so I would keep that.
    Dodge is the most build focused so its a good choice.

    Here is my dwarven intimi tank circa level 16 cap. I need to re-work the build for all the new goodies but the core levels etc... will be the same perhaps with small adjustments.

    Mine is only level 7 but he's really amazing at low/mid levels. Impossible to hit and quite respectable DPS. At hight levels my builds DPS will fall off considerably compared to TWF and THF builds.

    I would not make a Dwarf Intimi-build without being able to run the full Two-weapon fighting line. Start at 15 Dex, plan on a +2 Dex tome by level 7.

    15 (Base) + 2 (Tome) + 6 (item) + 1 (exceptional) = 24 dexterity for a +7 bonus. This is fairly easy to get to, minimal gear. You can get higher, though I think a max dexterity bonus of +10 is the highest reachable in Armor.

    Will tower shield enhancement's be needed end-game?
    4 (Mith Tower Shield) + 3 (Stalwart Defender I,II and II) = +7 Should you pull a +4 tome and get another +2 exceptional dexterity on an item you can always add the enhancements, otherwise you would not need them.

    This is the outline for the build I am going to Greater into, though I am not considering Paladin levels anymore. I am spending a bit of time trying the raids and quests to see what I really want from it. This build would do all you need of it, and is changeable if you want UMD. Last two Paladin levels can instead be Fighter letting you snag Stunning Blow.

    I believe you need to be in light armor for Rogue Evasion, and no armor for Monk Evasion. I assume Ranger granted Evasion is light as well.

    I didn't want my previous Thread to be compared to this one as I have reworked my build so much that it's a different build altogether. I wanted to understand my needs from this char before I posted my build.

    I said I was busy cause I wanted to eleminate the amount of spam on my thread.

    I did listen to the peeps in my other thread. I have remade my build, but it's still not to my taste.

    if you are talking about the tome from the completionist feat, you would be building a 36 point build, not a 32. Other than that not sure what this is.

    Dragon Touch full plate

    Leviks defender

    100% yes. It is even more valuable as an intim/ac tank to start with charisma 11 or 12, getting you to 20 or more at end game. (intim, umd, will saves)

    Rogue for some stuff, even evasion if you want light armor, kills your ac a bit.
    I see no reason to multi though. I think ranger 2 would give you free twf feat?

    Keep dodge, you do not need the other ones. Bullheaded if you wish, but keep dodge.

    Not a bad start. Personally I would drop con by 2 points and get more bang for your buck somewhere else. Other than that that you look to be headed down a much better path then your last build post. Cleave feats also can be used to attack when itimidate cause you to not be able to take action otherwise. So you could intim/cleave attack or intim a bunch of trash and the cleave/g cleave while turtleing. Also if going for umd you might want to consider sf umd, or sf intim for that matter. Make sure when planning your build out you pay attn, to what feats can be taken with which level ups ie:fighter bonus feats, prereqs of ability scores or babs, or levels etc. Looks like your getting there.

    As far as max dex goes:

    2 red dragonplate (very end game grind it out to get it armor)
    2 epic crafted bonus (forget the name0
    2 SD
    3 fam
    3 dam

    12 but thats a very gear intensive/AP intensive number. Just giving you an idea of where the bar can be pushed to. More likely it will look something like this:

    1 DT Plate
    2 SD
    2 FAM
    2 DAM

    +7

    +7 in dt gives you 22.

    *FAM & DAM = Fighter/Dwarven Armor Mastery enhancements.
    *SD= Stalwart Defender enhancemets.

    As far as shields go:

    4 max dex base leviks defender
    3 SD
    3 Tower Shield Mastery Enhancements.

    Drop the enhancements if your going to be +7 or less and youre good to go.

    Stats look pretty good for what you are looking for. You might consider capping jump at 10 as there is a nice belt that drops in Amrath that give 3 clicks of +30 jump. That will cap your jump at 40 (which is the most that does any good atm). You cant use it till 18, but it looks like you are building for end game anyway. UMD will be worthless for a long time, but once you get a +6 cha skills item from shroud, you will be glad you invested in it.

    Possibly put those points from jump in spot if you like to be able to see stealthed enemies.

    a dwarf, with a past life fighter feat, can get the max dex bonus to +9 for full plate armor.

    1 dragon touch full plate
    3 dwarven armor mastery
    3 fighter armor mastery
    1 fighter past life feat
    2 stalwart defender PrE
    -----------------------

    With tower shield, it is different.
    4 leviks mithral defender
    3 stalwart defender PrE
    1 fighter past life feat
    3 tower shield mastery
    ----------------------------

    The difference between DT full plate and the next highest armor is breast plate, which is a 2 ac loss. However, the breastplate adds 2 to max dex bonus, allowing 11 total over the 9 with full plate.

    so, 15 ac armor with a +9 for max dex, or a 13 ac armor with +11 for max dex.
    comes out the 24 ac either way.
    Breast plate could allow for less loss of some skills, etc.

    However, the max 11 is heavy enhancement usage and is detrimental.
    Also, max dex of 11 requires a 32 dex. It appears you are starting with an incredibly low dex that makes max dex bonus impossible for you.

    I would start at 16 dex and shoot for something rather high, but not crazy.
    16 dex + 2 tome + 6 item + 2 exceptional (or 1 + 1 dex level up) = 8 max dex

    8 max dex would allow you full ac for your tower shield without the hugh action point cost of having to do so much extra in tower and armor masteries.
    This max of 8 is possible for armor with just two levels of dwarven armor mastery.


    but again, with such a low dex, you can forget the max dex bonus.

    10 dex + 6 dex item + 2 tome + 2 exceptional = 20 dex, max 5.
    More could be added to this in an odd way.
    +2 (+4 tome), +1 exceptional + 3 level ups in dex = 26 dex = +8 max dex
    or worse
    +2 level ups = 28 dex = +9 max dex.

    there is a point where is becomes a bit unbalanced and you seriously lose some things to make up for the low dex of 10.

    Another thing to consider is having a 16.5 in balance and a 10.5 in UMD I think the .5 does not do much good in either case. You can consider pulling a point from each and getting trained in tumble. It allows you to move at full speed when in Defender stance.

    You may also consider pushing the Shield Mastery feat to a bit later in the build and picking up the THF line a bit earlier.

    Ok so I balanced UMD, and balance out.
    I added more Dex with less Cha, allowing me to rid myself of a +3tome later.

    Cleave (low-lvl Mob control) will help me get to lvl 10 easy, so I'm gonna hold off on THF. I did move shield mastery to later, to gain access to stunning blow much earlier.

    My enhancements need some work though I think.

    Keep in mind that the first 4 lvls are Vet Status. I like to dump stuff there early so I don't have to mess with it later.

    I think finally I'm getting closer to my goal. This draft I am very pleased with -enhancements.

    Remeber if you have racial and class enhancements, its cheaper to take 2 of each instead of 4 of one ie: armor mastery, toughness etc.

    I think you should take 1 off con to make it 15, and take those 2 points and add 2 to dex to make 14. Then take cha to 12 and add one more to dex.

    just my thought on that, for ac, balance, reflex saves, etc...

    Balance is a dump stat. Reflex saves are not as important. My AC will be restricted by my Heavy Armor/ Tower Shield making super high dex pointless after awhile.

    The enhanements for increasing my max dex are super expensive. Is losing 1-2 AC really gonna matter end game?

    I can deal with dex buffs. After a +6 dex item and a few buffs I'll have too high a dex for max dex bonus restrictions anyway. Plus a +4 tome later can remedy a lower dex.

    he can't. if he drops con to 15 it only buys him 1 build point. As it sits he can get to a + 8 dex bonus if needed. That's not too bad.
