I stand by my point.
the change was, that it stopped being p2p and became f2p. now, the flagship example for another p2p game would be WoW and the general chat channels are at least comparable to ddo's. imho they are far worse despite the fact it is a p2p game.
now, could it not be that by the influx of new players when ddp turned f2p, caused a predictable increase in epeen mongering morons, not to say that before they were not around, just in comparably smaller numbers and therefore less visible in main chat.
and I say this bc, no offense but I have seen more epeen- I am so much better than you nublet and you're lucky I am carrying you through this game- attitude from ppl, that have a join date before the f2p era on their forum account. ofc, that might also be linked to the fact, that the post f2p-era generation of said epeen-fanatics might not have found the forums yet while too busy quoting chuck norris or the lates comment about so and so's mother.
p.s. I am not defending myself here, I know better than to view the matter as to be directed at me. I'm merely playing a bit of the devil's advocate, although imo the "devil" here is less of a devil and more of a satyr amongst nymphs.

Youre correct here however...
Comparing how it was in DDO vs how it used to be in DDO is different than comparing how it is in DDO vs how it is in WOW.
Its not even an apples to oranges comparison, its more like apples to school busses.
To take your WOW point one step further, its possible that chat in DDO is like it is now because 10,000 moms cancelled their kids WOW sub and now they play free DDO.
Not so fast on your opinion !
Ive been around almost 3years (forget the forum join date) and, I NEVER
repeat NEVER heard or seen blatant lying to a fellow gamer, coming from a new player.
I'm sure it happened, but I never saw it.
Back in the day (pre F2P) all one had to do was ask a question, get an answer, make new friends, and perhaps join the guild, that info-giving player belongs too.
And as for the afore mentioned guild "Old School Gamers" I belonged to that guild back in the day, and I hope we are not talking about the same guild!
Kappo, Hordak, Filbo would never let rift-raft in the guild.
It's the influx of WoW flunkies, that saw the F2P ads, and came to DDO.
****OOHH! OOHH! Mommy! the Delaras adventure pack is on sale this weekend! Can I have an advance on my allowance to buy it?*****
wow, crazy story man! I was playing an alt that was unguilded about 2 months ago in the harbor and got owned by a 3 month veteran in the advice channel after I attempted to correct the misinformation he was spreading about AC builds.
Pretty amazing how our servers have so many new knowledgeable players to grace us with their sage advice! His highest level toon was pretty gimp as well, but I just laughed and walked away.
I think that Turbine should consider placing an emblem next to the players name in the chat for general chat, and advice chat if they are newer players, just to give other new players a bit of context to the advice they are receiving.
PM me the name of that player you encountered if it's not too much trouble, I'm curious lol!

I seem to have one particular player that I find I am constantly "correcting". It isn't so much as he is wrong it is more of the fact that he just can provide a straight forward response to someone's question. I don't know if he lacks the ability to just say the answer is "x", but he is always embelishing and providing additional information that is very tangential to the topic at hand.
Luke warm on this idea since it can lead to more problems (real or perceived).
I've been asked this by another person as well and to be honest I'm debating whether or not I really want to. I don't want to "ruin" a players reputation just because he was being a tard in Korthos. He might be a good player once he gets over his own opinion of himself.

I typically leave any channel (be it Advice, General, or Help) as soon as a Chuck Norris reference is raised or someone says 'your Mom' in response to questions. /Advice has gotten to be more about yet another casual chat channel than a place where people can ask questions. Whenever I read spam for grouping, I'll recommend people take it to "O" for Social and the Grouping Tab, and then ignore further insults.
The premium chat areas (Zawabi's Refuge, Gianthold, Merdia, and Reaver's Refuge) are usually fine for /General chat.
Personally, I have exactly six capped characters (one a TR), two 19's, an 11, and two 10's. LR has meant the end of my reroll addiction, and I'm still working toward getting a character of every class capped, but it's a very long-term project. Pretty much any time someone says they have six capped characters and they're giving bad advice, it's safe to assume they're just ego tripping. Six capped characters has taken ungodly amounts of time.

Ok, just to make sure I understand, F2P players (or those who started out in the F2P era) can never really be a vet? "You just had to be there"? Or is it that there can't be any F2P-era vets until at least 2 years after F2P came in?
I'm not arguing with you, nor am I trying to criticise; I want to understand your point of view, and that requires me to clearly understand what you're saying.
As far as a Symbol next to a character's name...you can kinda consider the TR symbol that...except I have run across many gimped TRs...
I will be the first to admit that I do not know everything about this game (way far from it), but the thing is...ask the true vets for help...and you will get it.
I was wanting to roll a BRD and was not sure how/what to do. So I cruised the forums and found what I thought would be a fun build (Axesinger). I ended up PMing MadMatt asking him some BRD questions and he immediately answered them (thanks again man). He gave me EXCELLENT advice on what to do and consider.
The problem I have with noobs/froobs or w/e you wanna call them...is their inability to listen to constructive criticism. If someone who actually complains that Epic is too easy and etc...please listen to them...they MAY know something.
I am one of those "old school" players. I played back when level cap was 10 and I stopped way back when. Well I got a new computer that could run DDO and I heard from a buddy that the level cap was raised to 20...BAM I was interested in coming back. I have enjoyed it immensely. But I gotta say, way back when...you did not see so much random spammage in advice and general chat channels. You might see something like "Are there any lvl 5 CLR on? I am cursed and I can not get rid of it." You did not see "I R TEH UBER DETROYER OF WORLDS" and "S T F U I had a maxed rouge in WoW so i no whut im talking bout...yo!"
That being said, the F2P people have saved this game. We (us as a community) have them to thank for the game still going. Turbine gets money from the VIPs...the DDO Store and now advertisements on THESE FORUMS since DDO is relevant now (again).
So baisically to all the Vets that are annoyed with F2P...don't bite the hand that feeds you.
And to the F2P that are annoyed with VETS...don't bite the hand that FEEDS you.
Lets have a symbiotic relationship and enjoy the game and have fun.

Not my point but I'll weigh in on this since it is my thread
If you stay long enough and prove yourself to be a good player then the title of vet can be bestowed upon you. Now here is the where the exponential and inverse mathematical vet formulas kick in. The question over how long you have to be around before you are considered a vet is inversely porportional to the exponential quality of your play ability, listening ability, and general attitude.

First of all, full disclosure:
I started playing when the servers went F2P. Thus, I'm a "noob" by some definitions.
I came to DDO after playing 10+ years of EverQuest, however.
All this "WoW-like" immature spammage and posturing is, in my opinion, the sign of a fundamentally healthy game. For many years, EQ had the same sort of nonsense flooding the newbie areas.
Buff Beggars, Uber-Leet posers, All-Knowing idiots offering bad advice, lies about having capped toons in uberguilds on other servers, you name it.
If that ever disappears, you know your game is dying.
